Quick history note on the 911 "widow maker". I think the title was somewhat earned because of the handling of the cars. They had huge 80s turbos with tons of lag so people would hit the gas in a corner off boost and nothing would happen. Eventually when the boost would hit when they weren't ready and they would get scared and take their foot off of the gas and due to the rear engine weight balance this would trigger almost instant, non recoverable, oversteer and send the cars into poles, ditches, innocent bystanders. etc. (nerd rant complete)
Let's just say you should dig deeper than that. 911 is inherently bad construction requiring very specific way of driving; they're more or less figured it out now - not so much in the 80's. Main reason was ultimate combination of absolute dumbass rear suspension and the fact that if you lift (not even after boost hit etc) in the corner while going at least a bit fast - you get yourself a crash no matter what (unlike other cars where you can catch it). Rear suspension was what starting to scare in the corner, than come the lift annnnd crash. Boost was part of that too; scenario you described was also taken place - but it was way more than that. Actually the problem with 911 when going fast is not oversteer, it's understeer. I suppose they were trying to fix that with this abomination of a rear suspension they used in the 80s-90s.
Wow, reverse snap oversteer that even modern day ford cant compete with... Sorry, had to say that at least once today. As far as danger... Always figured the worst one would be a 959, dual turbos, one big one, one small one... No electronics... Sounds like something a just graduated lawschool guy/gal would crash and crash hard. Slow by modern standards but... Never driven one myself though...maybe one day. Saying you've gotten to drive an f40, 959, or original gt40... That would be a cool story to tell one day. Maybe bucket list dream at this point, but goals still nonetheless.

If a 70's 911 Turbo isn't a widow maker, I don't know what is! Those things are deadly, not only because of the massive turbo lag, but also the fact the whole car is a pendulum, with all the weight behind the rear axle. They used to put lead bricks in the nose of the car to compensate...

No, the H2 was not a bored out H1, a completely different design. And if you have ever ridden a decent example, you would know that the they were not that bad to ride. Yes, they were a handful, but they actually had a descent power band that came on much earlier than the H1. The handling was not all that terrible and the main problem were the tires at the time. IMO the F6500CS is kinda cool. I even wanted to buy one last year but decided to get a GS instead. It was very innovative for its time and much ahead of any japanese bike in its class. Also the CD player was the dumbest accessory to install in the 'hole where tank should be'. Other included helmet mount with a lock and various tankbags. It was also fuel injected, had ABS and belt drive. GL finding that in anything you can buy for this cash . BTW while it looks absolutely ugly on photos, in reality it's better.

We have a couple of CX125s. The handling is just like a bike with conventional forks. Gilera did talk about developing the front end to fit the fork tube in the head stock. Complete nightmare to work on as the bodywork has to all come off to do many things (and the plastic goes brittle with age). Front brake line goes through the fork lower (makes it fun to put a brake line in place)
I have seen 1 DN-01 in the wild, ridden by a gentleman missing his left arm. Said it was a blessing they made the bike as it allowed him to ride again.
My neighbour had one of those awful looking BMWs with the roof. It was awkward just to see the dang thing on his front yard every morning when I left for work. It was just disturbing to look at it before my morning coffee.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 i always called it "THE THING" when i saw one.... nowdays there is a fanbase for those shitboxes and they pay a lot money for that... 7000 upwards..... crazy isnt it ?
I had a TM400 - my mate (a fitter turner ) made some air rear shocks for it- and converted the front forks to air - and it was a great bike to ride...even raced it without problems ...just shows decent suspension can cure some issues
I was just waiting for my F650CS Scarver to make this list. It may be the single most practical, and easiest motorbike to live with ever, but boy is it awkward to look at. Great to ride though, I even took mine mild ADV riding last weekend.
Shame about the F650 CS. It's a bomber Rotax 650 CC thumper mated to a belt drive. What's not to like? Would have been a perfect approachable "big" beginner bike. It's really just the front end that was its undoing.
The R1200C was a cool machine, I had one and swapped it for something bigger after 5 years of ownership, but I would buy one (a 2004 Montauk version specifically) if I can find a nice example with low miles.
...well its a bit like busa. Aero over everything else does create unique asthetics. Some like it some hate it. What cant be denied, is that ,ou couldnt ride anything as fast as it at 16.
Personally the Beemer's cruiser, also featured in a James Bond film, was cool. I loved the then sort of innovative 90s futuristic design and their front end suspension design using the motor as a stressed member of the chassis. I also liked the idea of the attachable and functional uses that the Scarver offered and its marketing. At least to an impressionable teen I thought it was cool.
The Bking is but a flash, exhaust pipe valve, and some bigger airbox snorkels away from from full power. Put in a busa bin file with "b-king gauges" clicked and the bike has full power. This bike had same mechanical engine specs as a busa. Ride one. You wont say by any means it is underpowered even stock. Wonderful bike (once the goofy looking exhaust is replaced). Yes I have one. Sitting next to the hayabusa. Guess which one gets ridden more....
Good(ish) list but easy to do a part 2. Some candidates: Moto-Shifty 900 (Fiat 126 car engine with a foot-operated H-gate gearchange in a motorcycle...) Bocardo (Peugeot car engine in a blobby touring bike with the fuel in the fairing. Company went bust and owner wanted by Interpol the last I heard) Creasy Voyager (Reliant car engine in a fibreglass-covered feet-forwards design that looked like a Portaloo on wheels) Suzuki RE5 ("simple" Wankel rotary engine with so much extra gubbins to make it work that it was heavier than the equivalent piston-engined bike) Aprilia Moto 6.5 (650 single roadster that looked like a plastic kettle, mainly because it was "styled" by Philippe Starck who was famous for designing plastic kettles) Yamaha GTS1000 (hub-centre-steering sports-tourer with no steering lock and a detuned FZR motor, all for the price of a FJ1200 PLUS an XT350)
I really like them. They have a low fuel tank, like a scooter. The traditional fuel tank area is used for storage. They're belt driven too. Rare as rocking horse poo in the UK now. I've never seen one in the wild.
Having owned many bikes I consider beautiful like Ducati Paso750, Paso 907ie, 900ss FE, 996 MV Augusta V4 1000, Aprilia 1000 Factory, Honda MVX250. I have to say I really like the looks of BMW R1200C However never bought one as I rode it and thought it was so underpowered and sounds like a chirping sowing machine.
NGL, that DN01 is just a few design changes away from being goated. 10"(25cm) lower seat height, a little narrower on the chassis and 4" (10cm) higher pegs, remote steering mount for proper reach, and a Rebel 1100 power package with belt drive... If we're going all out, Robert Horn's VHCS front suspension and get it at or under 530 lbs (240kg) curb weight with a full 5 gallon+ (19L+) tank.
3:31 Nice Iconic Motorbikes, I've been there in Santa Monica, CA and its nothing short of amazing with how many old/ imported bikes they have in such good low mileage condition.
I bought an R1200C last year for $2,000 with 4k miles. It was ugly already and someone decided to airbrush a JACKED werewolf on it with lightning. That and straight pipes with drag bars...rides and runs great and I enjoy the hell out of it and how ridiculous it is.
I considered a R1200C as my first big bike. Sorry, not sorry, but I like its looks. However, I realised it was incredibly underpowered for a bike of its weight. Not only that, but the tank is so wide and high it's like sitting down with a VW Bug between your knees.
I had a R1200C as a first bike, and I can tell you that it was incredibly beginner friendly, that ultra low center or gravity, ABS, low maintenance and more than adequate power made it one hell of a bike.
The DN-01 makes sense if you're an older fellow who values comfort, you have an injury to your left arm/hand, you're capable and willing to part with the money, AND you intend to make use of its good lean angle. As it turns out, a buyer that matches that description exactly is a very small part of the overall market. It's no surprise it didn't sell well.
A german comedian once called the BMW C1 as followed: "the Design is inspired by the Electric Chair of the Alabama County Jail". And i think thats the best description. 😂
I had a scale model of C1 when I was a child and to be honest - it was looking soooooo cool because of roof. I mean it was the only bike with the roof, kinda impossible out-of-earth technologies!
The BMW C1 is a thing of beauty that sadly, fell far too short of its potential. It is a design we must be looking forward to, funding, and maximizing to its full potential. Also, the scarver would probably be considered nostalgic now, I think it's cool.
The 930 Turbo WAS a widow maker. the massive turbo lag and the rear mounted engine often sent unexperienced drivers right into the next wall, tree or ditch. if you hit the acelerator at the wrong time in a curve you were sent flying. due to where the engine was located at, it was nearly impossible to catch the car again.
V-Due: How can a 2 stroke "leak all of it's oil"? Gilera CX125: I think it's a very nice looking motorcycle and would love to own one. Certainly much better looking that any modern KTM!
Maybe i m the only one but that r1200c is one of my dream bikes, it s pacjed with tech (especially for the time), and in my eyes hits some art nouveau buttons. Only thing i didn t like is that is underpowered and expensive af to fix
Here in Brazil there's only one Motorcycle called "Black Widow" (Viúva Negra), which for us means like "Widowmaker" to you, and that's the YAMAHA RD350... And it was violent.
It's wild how much companies think young people want something new. I'm 25, and I bought a Royal Enfield. I literally bought the Harley of India (except RE is actually reliable, affordable, and looks nice; whereas Harley just looks nice about 50% of the time)
Yammie, if that's what you truly think about early 80's 911 turbos, do a video where you go take one for a spirited drive round some twistys with that same bravado. Then your 1.34 million subs can all learn how to use a ouija board because that's the only way you'll be hearing from anybody ever again.
That video sucks! Gilera CX 125 looks AWESOME, and Honda DN-01 is actually one of the best cruisers ever: it's comfortable (with a larger screen), reliable, easy to ride, looks cool. Owners love them! And, yes, it does have a CVT transmission, but it's unlike scooters - it doesn't have any belts and cones. It has a hydrostatic drive instead. Which makes an HFT transmission of DN-01 drop-dead reliable - unlike conventional CVTs that fails all the time. Worth mentioning.
Busa owner here and I know a number of people that have B-kings..... They are actually great bikes that will do pretty much everything you need pretty darn well and they have a ton of potential to go extremely fast.
Of course, you have to remember that the H2 was actually an IMPROVED upgrade of the H1 with better suspension an brakes. 😮The only reason I survived my H1 back in high school was that the expensive spark plugs had a bad tendency to foul, reducing power. 🙄
DN-01 has a little brother called NM4 and I think they both look amazing. And the idea behind both motorcycles is understandable - maximize comfort, which means getting rid of manual transmission, providing better wind protection and comfortable sitting position. My main problem with these is that I can only afford owning 1, maybe 2 bikes at a time and these are not that high on the list due to lack of power and lack of thrill because of auto transmission
This is probably the fifth version of Bad motorcycles that I've seen, and I think at least three of them were done by you. In at least two of these two of my favorite motorcycles are have been mentioned. And in all of them the motorcycle I currently own and actually is one of the best bikes I've ever ridden is constantly coming up, the BMW r1200c. Now I did not intend to own one of these bikes. But I ran across one that somebody had dropped off at the BMW dealer and had left it for 2 years and had yet to pick it up. It had 3,300 Mi on it and I bought it for $3,500. Because that same BMW dealer also used the same type of motorcycle for their land out bike and it probably had $200,000 Mi on it at the time that I purchased this 1998 r1200c. I decided to go ahead and buy it and I then took an advanced motorcycle course, and this has been a wonderful motorcycle. It does everything I need it to do. I have never put the bags on it that I originally intended but it gets me around just fine. I wrote it from western Canada back to Detroit in 29 hour marathon of several years ago on the first week of March of 2012. That's a long ride on a naked bike with a small windscreen. And it worked flawlessly. Is a 500 CX honda, I only owned the one and I believe it was a 1982 custom model, it only had a 2 and 1/2 gallon tank but it ran pretty good and I had a nice sweet spot of about 72 to 75 mph, it would only top out at about 1:05 but it was a wonderful bike for around town and when I did go to the BMW dealer and told them that I was looking to move into a BMW if I sold it. He said don't worry about that that is the best bike that Honda has ever built. He was correct, I have seen CX500 bikes run for freaking ever with almost zero maintenance. It's not particularly fast. But I was surprised at how wonderful the bike rides even when you lift the front wheel off the ground while accelerating out into traffic I actually held the wheel up through four gears about 5 or 6 in off the ground and was still able to steer it just fine. Never had a bike that easy and intuitive to ride. I did have to be careful about are in the front tire because it would get a head shake when you change lanes on the freeway. I repacked the bearings in the head of the fork, put a little bit heavier grease in them snug them up a little bit better and made sure that I had good air pressure in the front tire it's amazing how often the front end skittishness is caused by air pressure and sometimes by the type of tread that's on the tires. But I had no problem with either of those two bikes and you keep knocking them. I'm guessing that you have never picked up an r1200c and wrote it for a little while. It's really a nice ride. It is comfortable to sit on. Try it out for a little while once. And they run for flipping ever
I agree with most people about the Gilera CX 125,It looks cool to me, and an earodynamicly clad 125 can be quite fun to ride, I've been riding a Ducati 851 for ages now, but i wouldn't mind a lighter bike every now and then.. The BMW Scarver has some handy features.. Like the luggage Compartment where you'd expect a fuel tank.. try to take anything bigger than a cheese sandwich on a modern sportbike..
I am curious how the Bimota leaked it's oil out and seized it's pistons since it's a two stroke motor and two stroke motors lubricate the crankshaft and pistons by pre mixing oil into the fuel meaning it has to run out of gas to run out of oil?
Funnily enough my dad literally almost died on a Kawasaki H2 Mach 4 back in the 70’s. He was in high school and full throttled it past some onlookers before losing control and flying straight into a corn field. Couple days in the hospital, months of recovery and one berating by my grandpa later, he was okay 👍

The widow maker here in Brazil is the Yamaha RD350, good power with bad brakes is always a fun combo
Easily remedied with a RZ front end.
Same in India. The rd350 with its bad brakes killed alot of young rich guys, 350cc was out of the world for India back then.
Here in the UK, the RD250LC was pretty much single-handedly responsible for the law limiting learner riders to 125cc 12bhp bikes.
2 stroke right? What made it crazy ? I still don’t fully understand the power band is it an all or nothing situation? I love the sound.

Complete nightmare to work on as the bodywork has to all come off to do many things (and the plastic goes brittle with age). Front brake line goes through the fork lower (makes it fun to put a brake line in place)
The BMW R1200C is what Homer Simpson would draw if you asked him to design a bike.
i disagree. I think its one of the best looking non custom choppers
BMW R1200C and Full Faired R1200CL has legendary styling ,end off .
I have seen 1 DN-01 in the wild, ridden by a gentleman missing his left arm. Said it was a blessing they made the bike as it allowed him to ride again.
It's niet a CVTveither. Honda called it HFT, completely different.
My neighbour had one of those awful looking BMWs with the roof. It was awkward just to see the dang thing on his front yard every morning when I left for work. It was just disturbing to look at it before my morning coffee.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i always called it "THE THING" when i saw one.... nowdays there is a fanbase for those shitboxes and they pay a lot money for that... 7000 upwards..... crazy isnt it ?
The transmission in the DN-01 is not a conventional belt type CVT, it is a swashplate hydrostatic unit. Much cooler, also more expensive to make.
The Gerila CX125 looks good though.
10:30 Yes, the Scraver is an ugly duckling, but it drives excellently, I had one a few years ago.
I think Yammie have a thing with a BMW, I saw Scraver, I rode in a pack with a girl on R1200C - they are all fine in my opinion.
Ich überleg mir eine zuzulegen und um zu bauen. Irgendwie is es ne coole Maschine die nur n bisschen feinschliff braucht
The R1200 C is the best bike i ever had and i never should have sold it. If i could i'd buy one right now.
Shame about the F650 CS. It's a bomber Rotax 650 CC thumper mated to a belt drive. What's not to like? Would have been a perfect approachable "big" beginner bike. It's really just the front end that was its undoing.
the gutless engine let it down
I bought an R3 last week as my first bike, and this video makes me feel a little less lame about it.
I find the Gilera CX 125 a stunningly beatuful little bike
The R1200C was a cool machine, I had one and swapped it for something bigger after 5 years of ownership, but I would buy one (a 2004 Montauk version specifically) if I can find a nice example with low miles.
Yammie: this bike is hideous.
Me: its okay gilera, I dont think your hideous.
...well its a bit like busa.
TBH. i do like the looks of BMW F650CS so long as you replace mirror with bar end mirrors and is in silver.
11:59 look like a medieval torture device!! I am dying of laughter!
every comment I've seen here is either about how the gilera cx125 actually looks good, or how the 911 turbos were actually dangerous af
The dn-01 is gorgeous, I'd totally buy one if it had a manual
The name of the bike is a warning. Do Not 0wn 1.
Call me nuts that that CX125 looks awesome haha.. straight out of 80s sci fi
Good(ish) list but easy to do a part 2. Some candidates:
Moto-Shifty 900 (Fiat 126 car engine with a foot-operated H-gate gearchange in a motorcycle...)
Bocardo (Peugeot car engine in a blobby touring bike with the fuel in the fairing. Company went bust and owner wanted by Interpol the last I heard)
Creasy Voyager (Reliant car engine in a fibreglass-covered feet-forwards design that looked like a Portaloo on wheels)
Suzuki RE5 ("simple" Wankel rotary engine with so much extra gubbins to make it work that it was heavier than the equivalent piston-engined bike)
Aprilia Moto 6.5 (650 single roadster that looked like a plastic kettle, mainly because it was "styled" by Philippe Starck who was famous for designing plastic kettles)
Yamaha GTS1000 (hub-centre-steering sports-tourer with no steering lock and a detuned FZR motor, all for the price of a FJ1200 PLUS an XT350)
I do like the looks of the Scarver.
It's weird, maybe ugly.
Love it!
welcome to the club
I almost bought one a few months ago..
I really like them. They have a low fuel tank, like a scooter. The traditional fuel tank area is used for storage. They're belt driven too. Rare as rocking horse poo in the UK now. I've never seen one in the wild.
@@MahatmaAndhi We still have some Im Portugal, recently saw one for sales, 3500 euros 30000 kilometers
I want an updated cx, that thing looks very cool
Love that Blue H2 !
3:31 Nice Iconic Motorbikes, I've been there in Santa Monica, CA and its nothing short of amazing with how many old/ imported bikes they have in such good low mileage condition.
how can anyone call the Piaggio CX 125 ugly? especially in that light teal color!! That bike is stunning, I personally love it
I loved that bike Gilerra CX ,had one CX and SP02
I bought an R1200C last year for $2,000 with 4k miles. It was ugly already and someone decided to airbrush a JACKED werewolf on it with lightning. That and straight pipes with drag bars...rides and runs great and I enjoy the hell out of it and how ridiculous it is.
Your videos have made me a self proclaimed motorcycle expert
I laughed so hard, Yam, I left a little surprise in my racing suit. Going out for a speed run, get an extra 1/2 mph w/o underwear!
I considered a R1200C as my first big bike. Sorry, not sorry, but I like its looks. However, I realised it was incredibly underpowered for a bike of its weight. Not only that, but the tank is so wide and high it's like sitting down with a VW Bug between your knees.
I test rode one, it handled well and was very smooth. Nothing really bad about it, I just didn't want to own one.
I had a R1200C as a first bike, and I can tell you that it was incredibly beginner friendly, that ultra low center or gravity, ABS, low maintenance and more than adequate power made it one hell of a bike.
Hehe, every 2T engine with a narrow powerband is called a death trap or widow maker. It's just the way a good 2 stroke works.
I actually thought the BMW. R1200C was a good looking moto. But thats probably because it looks a lot like the V65 sabra lol!🤠👍
The V-due , with either Carbs or a Microsquirt AND Jolly Moto sickenly gorgeous chambers ..., is a REVELATION !!
I Love the R1200C!
7:50 tell me you know nothing about old school 911 turbos without telling me you know nothing about old school 911 turbos:-/
Actually the R1200C is not a bad bike. It has plenty of torque and ABS. I gave mine to my son in Corpus Christi as his first bike. :-)
Same as my CTX700(look it up it's literally just the DN-01) it cut cut for low sales
The C1 is a 2 wheel golf cart hahaha
That Honda Cruise-O-Scooter has "early to the shuffleboard court" all over it....I'm in !! Honnnnnnnnnnnnduh.
Had a H2 it was a bag of laughs, especially when the power came in, much more scary were the Suzuki kettle GT750
In fact the GT 750 had a wide powerband. Therefor it was used by many as a touring bike. It could pull in fifth gear with only 2-3000 rpm.
V-Due: How can a 2 stroke "leak all of it's oil"? Gilera CX125: I think it's a very nice looking motorcycle and would love to own one. Certainly much better looking that any modern KTM!
Hey just watched it… very good especially the scarver! Also love it when you mention HST. Take care RG
Maybe i m the only one but that r1200c is one of my dream bikes, it s pacjed with tech (especially for the time), and in my eyes hits some art nouveau buttons. Only thing i didn t like is that is underpowered and expensive af to fix
I had a yamaha rd350lc once. Loved it. We called it the dandelion.. first thing in the ditch at springtime!
Here in Brazil there's only one Motorcycle called "Black Widow" (Viúva Negra), which for us means like "Widowmaker" to you, and that's the YAMAHA RD350... And it was violent.
The DN01 actually looks great. It might be good if they focus on a genre instead of being a chimera.
You got me bro with "wagyu, but got Meatloaf." 😂❤😂
It's wild how much companies think young people want something new. I'm 25, and I bought a Royal Enfield. I literally bought the Harley of India (except RE is actually reliable, affordable, and looks nice; whereas Harley just looks nice about 50% of the time)
Yammie, if that's what you truly think about early 80's 911 turbos, do a video where you go take one for a spirited drive round some twistys with that same bravado. Then your 1.34 million subs can all learn how to use a ouija board because that's the only way you'll be hearing from anybody ever again.
7:57
It was a widow maker, try to drive one one day
That video sucks!
Bro, I love your content. It's like bladed angle but for motorcycles
I would of had a B-King if i fit on it.... such a God Tier bike...
No it the big brother to the CTX700(look it up it's literally just the DN-01)
There's a British engineer who can make the Bimota V Due run perfectly and it's a brilliant thing
Speaking of bikes prone to highside and tank slap.. RZ500.
A bike that is reluctant to turn.. Husky A7.
So close with the BMW R1200C, but you forgot the decked out version, the R1200CL
The lack of a Honda Rune on this list is criminal.
Thanks. I still want a B-King
PAPA YAMI, that thumbnail motorcycle looks really nice and clean to me 😭! Also I’m a squid on a r6, having a great time.
I am curious how the Bimota leaked it's oil out and seized it's pistons since it's a two stroke motor and two stroke motors lubricate the crankshaft and pistons by pre mixing oil into the fuel meaning it has to run out of gas to run out of oil?
It probably had a separate oil tank like later two strokes, since premix is such a PITA, so it could run out of oil before running out of gas.
I enjoyed the video. Great work and glad to see you are doing your thing. Idk if you remember but my mom, who still rides across the country to this day used to ride a k1200c. She enjoyed it but liked her Goldwings better…. Oh btw it’s Daniel just checking out your content bro take care!
