While it's cool, I think the standing lk into boom/ca would be a risky confirm considering the standing lk is hitting on a meaty frame. If his opponent blocked, he would have wasted the CA and punished/death.
Well, I think it's the safest combo that will kill. The standing light kick into boom allowed Daigo enough time to confirm whether the flashkick into CA would connect. If the standing light kick didn't connect, he simply could have backed off without completing the rest of the combo and thereby putting him in harms way. He could have just did a couching medium punch into flashkick/CA...but that requires a dangerous commitment because what if Daigo's opponent blocked? The advantage of this combo is that it allowed Daigo to kill if his opponent decide to poke a limb out on wakeup (which they did in this clip), but also the option to back off if his opponent blocked the light kick. The super cool factor is incidental.
Hitbox is the lowest execution difficulty than any other controller options for this combo. Pad should be doable as well but not as low difficulty as hitbox.

For anyone who is not proficient at a hotbox-like controller...don't even bother. Before even attempting a combo like this with a hitbox, you must already have reached a high level of comfort using a hitbox. Anyone who has transitioned from a joystick or joypad to a hitbox will tell yah, it isn't easy. You'll be losing...a lot when you first try to switch over. The directional controls are counter intuitive and requires a lot of practice to nail down the proficiency. Saying the hitbox is the lowest execution difficulty...while true, is also misleading. It's only true after you've gained proficiency with that style of directional control.
