The first time I heard this song, the bagpipes coming in at the chorus made me tear up. It was unexpected - and a timeless, forlorn sound. It always sends shivers up my back even today. You have to know that he sings this to Linda, and that she smiles through us all. To have lived in this time is a gift. We can never take music like this for granted. God bless you Sir Paul. You've given us so much.
My sentiments exactly James . When the bagpipes start skirling in the second part of the song , it gets my Highlander blood coursing through my veins yearning to see more Highlander pipers and drummers coming down from the mulls and through the glens . Whenever I listen to " Mull of Kintyre " , I always visualize the events in Paul and Linda's life leading up to the creation of this song's recording and its videos . I always remember the story about how Paul got the Campbelltown Pipe Band involved to record the song at his Spirit of Ranachan Studio on his farm which is located just a few miles northwest up the hill from Campbelltown . I always remember about how the video was filmed at Saddell Beach near the castle on the bay when the Campbelltown Pipe Band comes marching along the beach to meet with up Paul and his two Wings . I will never forget the first time I heard the song when it was first released to the radio air waves in 1977 . I was already a Beatleologist by 1977 but I remember when my friends and I heard the song for the first time . We thought it was one of the most beautiful songs ever written . Nothing has changed 44 years hence . It's still one of the best songs ever written ... and I think that Beatle fans of Celtic descent probably feel the same way . Those bagpipes and drums of The Campbelltown Pipe Band really made the song in 1977 ... and ... The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Pipe Band really made the song 39 years hence when Paul performed the song in Hamilton , Ontario in 2016 . To see one of the three videos which accompanied the release of the song's recording back in November 1977 , go to this webpage at " www.mullofkintyre.org/mullofkintyre.html " . Peace and good health to you ... Miles from Canada .
I saw Paul McCartney in Regina Saskatewan, during Mull of Kintyre the Regina Marching Bagpipe band came out on the instrumental just like this. It was a moment to remember, every hair on the back of my neck stood up. Fantastic.
The same happens to me who am from Peru. I feel so emotional when I hear this song that I wish I lived in Scotland with my family. All the best to you all.
BeautifuLLL!!!!!! Shame on the 18 who disliked this!!!! this song brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it and this one is every bit as moving to me as always!!! I give a truly great applause to the pipe band, my father who is passed was a piper and he would have truly loved this! so wonderfulll!!!!
Im canadian born to scottish parents n let me tell you, the best way to tell if someone is scottish when the pipes are playing is to look around and see who has tears running down their cheeks ❤
So wish I could've been there. Such a beautiful song & melody. Working on learning this song in sign language. Always love Paul, master singer/songwriter. There will never be another like him.
Soooo sad, when the camera pans across the stage during intro and - no Linda. Weeping. Imagining what must be going through Paul's heart as he sings this; living at the Mull with the love of his life, writing this song for JUST THAT PERIOD in his life...
Linda was a lovely lady . The refrain of " Mull of Kintyre " was played by a single piper at the beginning of the funeral service for Linda McCartney back in June 1998 .
Currently reading the Phillip Norman book about Paul, lots of good stuff about the Mull, its history, and what led to writing the song. Outside of Campbeltown, Scotland, home to the world's best Scotch Whiskey. Cheers to PM!
This song is so beautiful; just the music alone. I have no idea what it is about bagpipes that touches my soul so deeply. I get shivers every time I hear them.
Sang this at home, as a child. My family were and continue to be very musical. I repatriated to another country in my 20s, I loved my home very much, so the lyrics mean a bit more to me now. GOSH, I do love those bagpipes! Great piece of composition and art. Thanks for such a great piece of music artistry. (Thankfully, I at least have an ocean view!).
This only gets played 'live' in two countries...Scotland,and Canada, and I was one of the fortunate ones to see it played in Halifax,N.S.,a few years back. The reaction was indescribable...and fortunately,it was filmed as a pay-per-view,before the 'Good Evening,New York City' show, shortly afterwards.Halifax was the warm-up gig for that show, and it was superb. Two hours and forty minutes of magic.
@@fredparker1734 No worries Fred, when I was in the Navy (R.A.N) we had a few Kanuks changing continents, guess trading snow for blistering summers but good people, and yes, very polite.
First time my grandson, 11, and his cousin, 14 had seen and heard the Argyles at the concert and very glad that you have contributed this music video. Thanks
His Auckland NZ concert seemed a little better, must have gotten his voice back, but this song has to be seen live to believe, its amazing. Its at the end of a concert of 39 songs, well worth the $$ if he tours again. The drummer he toured with in 2017 was insane, the bald guy at the beginning.
2011whack I zoomed in as I had stupid people in front of me that kept moving around in and out of their seats...very distracting! Anyway, I also wanted to showcase the Pipe band members too. I have had comments from others that they appreciated seeing the close-ups of all members on stage. I’m sure there are lots of people who have posted video from further away.
I was there! One of the only 2 performances with the pipes. Quite brilliant. 3 hours of pleasure.

Love this song and the pipes. Not a expat. Just a Canadian with a family who have always been proud of our Scottish heritage.

I have no scottish blood ( that I know of ) but this song, especially the bagpipes, make me want to cry it’s so beautiful.

The great MACCA
I can't help thinking that this song borrows a great deal from Westering Home... the 3/4 time, the sentiments in the lyrics... the bagpipes...
This season Nottingham Forest is returning to the premier league
the military called it mulligans tyres.
Я услышал эту песню в 1977 году был поражен

It's a rare thing when the poor guy can hit a clean note, but a nice moment nonetheless.
If you can’t say something nice
Shut the hell up…
tough not to loose your failing voice singing a song about delicious cultural imperialism. such a desirable conquest.
Pity...is running out of voice. No more even for him
Yes very true, but his soul hits the notes properly!
Doesnt work when tries to sing it fast
I prefer Hamilton OFF
yes but McCartney paid them £15 each the tight fisted prat
Are you serious?
