"Freddie is getting bent in ways I don't think he should be getting bent" WILDD 😂
He was playing twister
No diddy
Takes a special kind of bad to still get it wrong they're looking at it on tape.
NFL refs are worse as they openly rigged games for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Still not as bad as the Fail Mary or the non pass interference between the Saints and the Rams back in the 2018 NFC Championship game.
It's intentional. They have vested interest in certain outcomes
Do they have all these broadcast camera angles?
@@thlee3100% they do. They have access to every camera… even yours.

They have backups especially for this year's unis.
I think the biggest and most consistent issue I've had with replay review is that if feels like they never use the context of multiple camera angles. It feels like they are purposely making a decision based on solely the evidence from one camera.
How would we even know, they just give them word over the phone. No accountability by whoever sends in the call.
The ascendant masters
@@elasmojonesI’m sorry I made the wrong call
what's the point of having a dedicated replay booth if they have one camera lol
Because they know a certain camera angle will show what they don't want you to see . Especially if they make the wrong call.

That call at second with jazz ended up being the game winning run. Not good enough on these replays. It’s the playoffs.
Unbelievable. KC has every right to be upset. Even Bob Costas was adamant about Jazz being out. Joke. Small market Midwestern team vs NYC. BULLSHIT.
Of course the Yankees get the call when the replay center is based out of New York.

"uggghhh we gotta do work now? I'm tired, let's just say it stands" - MLB probably
I think they’re gonna stand with the rule when it comes to the part of “clear and obvious” when you have to replay a video and slow motion like 5 times to see it. It’s not “clear and obvious”

Cohen and Darling are easily the most objective announcers in the game. I cant count how many times they call out a missed play or pitch for both teams. While on the other feed I will hear other announcers... "Wheeler with a first pitch strike at the corner..." and its inches outside the zone. Its at a point that if its anyone else(other than a network with no skin in the game) then I cant watch it.
Gotta respect how much the MLB protects their umpires, wish my employer refused to acknowledge my mistakes
to be fair I think the freddie one was actually inconclusive like you couldnt tell if his calf is still in contact realistically
You could using multiple angles at once, though I don't know if they have enough time for that.
@MordechaiHershoffyoutube as a dodger fan, I wish we could've seen multiple angles overlayed because this breakdown made me question it more than when it was live. That calf looks really close and if he wasn't touching it but his pants were, that's like very close

but jimmy didn't even get the first moment he was out
go to 4:26 and press , about 23 times
first leg has come off, second foot hasn't yet touched, tag is applied
It's like MLB is counting on everyone saying "If you're going to be that wrong why even have replay?" to which they'll respond "Ok. We're removing it." instead of actually fixing the issue.
If we still have arguments over plays that are reviewed, maybe just eliminate it, just let the umpires call it in real time.
Agreed. Was the same in the NFL with challenging PI calls. They executed it terribly so they could turn around and say”well everyone argues about the call anyways so let’s leave it to the ref” when in reality it just needed some tweaks. But these calls by the ump are way worse cuz these aren’t subjective calls like a strike or a ball. You can see if a guys hand or foot hit the bag before he’s tagged it’s usually not that complicated
These winter mittens GOTTA GO. Aint no way are his hands that long.
“Over slids it” 😅
6:16 fr bro look how much longer that shit looks
Yep.👍
Or, if they do allow them, any close play automatically goes to the defense, as the hand is presumed not to have reached the base in time. Otherwise, you're allowing what amounts to a hand extender to unduly benefit the runner.
Isn't it to prevent them from breaking their fingers? Cuz in that context it is pretty necessary imo
Freeman one looks the least obvious to overturn. It’s possible there is still contact on his leg. The others on the other hand 🤷♂️
The Freeman one he should be out on ugliness of the slide (not really but my man what are you doing?)
@@MadSpectre47 he's injured, that's what's happening
yea, injured people steal bases all the time.
Yeah, the Freeman one is harder but it looks like through the whole play, there is fabric from his pants, esp the lower leg, still touching the base.
Mmm
Yo that's actually insanely cool that Jazz wore your shirt on the postgame show.
pregame
Umpires are looking out for eachother and found this "cant overturn" loophole
MLB replay has been horrible all year. People don’t give a shit about overturning calls everytime
you have to have clear evidence to overturn, it cant be in any way iffy. the fact jomboy has to edit the clip like this at 1:35 should show you how insanely hard that would be to see with a 100% assurance
@@TheFamousMockingbird My counter-point would be, if Jomboy can do it, so can the MLB - a multi-billion dollar organization with some of the most advanced tech in the industry
@@TheFamousMockingbird In this video the most difficult editing is syncing up multiple shots next to each other and going through them frame-by-frame, which is exactly how the MLB reviews calls. They should be able to look at something just as conclusive as what we see here.
I do have to point out though that the "edit" you refer to at 1:35 is pausing the video and zooming in. Is that really "insanely hard" for a pro sports league?
@@TheFamousMockingbirdjomboy was using THEIR footage…

Freddie playing Twister on the bases..wth was that 🤔😬😭😭🤷♂️
he's injured, it's impressive he even got to the base. literally running on a sprained ankle
he used Twister to get ready for the game.
They should have to make a clean slide..like how they can't run outside the baseline. What he did seemed questionable.
Royals bullpen was dogshit, but the umps were fucking horrible tonight. Somebody had some bets on the game.
Count on it.
The plate umpire in the Mets-Phillies game as atrocious. He was calling strikes that looked like they were 6 inches off the plate.
Mlb, they're betting on a Dodgers-Yankees WS
The thing with the Turner one was that whilst they were reviewing it the fans in Philly went quiet like they were expecting it to be out too.
Luckily it wasn't as big of a screw up and game changing like the call on Jazz was.
Exactly, as soon as they saw the replay, that was the first time in the game they got quiet.
Did MLB put a time limit on how long they're allowed to review these calls or something? no other explination comes to mind other than they're rushing these replay reviews. unnacceptable
they’ve probably got a pitch click in the replay room and when that time expires oh shit i guess call stands
Pretty sure they did. Two minutes or something.
I didn't have an issue with the Dodgers call but Mets and Yankees were definitely obvious
yeah with Freddie he was likely out, but you can't see if his pant leg is still touching. with the other two the spaces between the runner and bag is visible
@@wonday2738 That is what I'm saying.. It's hard to judge on Freddie's play but the Mets and Yankees were definitely clear
They all seemed kind of "disputable" tbh
Pass interference was obvious between Saints vs Rams back in 2018 but the refs still missed it.
The other two are bad but the Dodgers call would be iffy if overturned. Good stands imo as a Tigers fan.
Yankees fan here and I’m still in shock it didn’t get overturned and in even bigger shock we got a huge two out rbi single!
Appreciate your honesty
JOMBOY I appreciate your non bias videos even when it goes against what you want for your team.
The third one I can understand them not seeing enough to overturn the call on the pitch. Even if I do feel he likely should be out, it is so close we can't definitively say and the sport is more fun when folks are on base (perhaps not for the Padres here but...) However the first two replays are some "yikes" missed calls
How many inches does the oven Mitt add to his Hand 🖐️ Fingers ? Should not be allowed!
If the equipment is being worn on the player it counts as part of the player. If a batters jersey gets grazed by a pitch it counts as a “hit by pitch”
And on the other hand Justin turner slid into second base a few weeks ago and his helmet was tagged. But his helmet had fallen off his head and gotten in the way of the tag so he was ruled safe.
That was my big argument. And what if he pulled the mit out a bit so it adds even more! Why are they even afraid to use regular fingered gloves that have some slide to them!?
that first call was way off as his foot come completely off the bag as he goes vertical
You bring honor and dignity back to baseball coverage. I salute you fine people.
It’s October you have to get these right…
I could say the same regarding the miss pass interference in the Saints vs Rams NFC Championship game back in 2018 as well.
@@arthurau9231 yup that’s the playoffs and an easy call, needs to be right
I’ve said for awhile they should immortalize the most infamous umpire by calling the robot system for balls and strikes, “Angel.”
This replay review system should be called, “Jomboy, let’s Jomboy that.”
There needs to be a rule where there is a difference between call on the field stands due to being proven correct by review, as opposed to call stands due to lack of evidence to overturn. This difference should be specified and when there’s simply not enough evidence the team should not lose their challenge in that case.
Cricket does this, soccer does this. But cricket more so, particularly with ball tracking. Basically a line ball call, or inconclusive footage/tech means the on field decision is preferenced.
They do. "Call on the field is confirmed." Means exactly that. "Call on the field stands", which they said in all three of these, means there wasn't enough evidence to overturn.
So funny becaue this happens a thousand times a year and every time we have the same argument. Balls and strikes are a much bigger issue with Umps making awful calls that affect the game.
@@uncleike6211Yeah but do you lose your challenge if the call "stands"?
@@SirTylerGolf Yes. The intent is to let teams challenge obvious blown calls, not ones like this where it's too close to call, even on replay. Teams do get 2 challenges in the playoffs per game instead of 1. (I missed this part of the original comment because I didn't see the "Read more" link.)
Replay is a joke in every sport they always fall back on there wasn't enough evidence to overturn when 90% of time it is blatantly obvious to everyone besides the replay booth. This is why plenty fans question the legitimacy of sports at this point.

And of course with three challenged calls the usual suspects go right to the NYY one. So predictable. Hating the Yankees is tantamount to virtue signaling at this point.
THIS MAKE US FANS DISAPPOINTED IN THE INTEGRITY ⚖️ OF THE MLB
4:33 isn’t his calf still making contact?
No, the MLB didn't botch any of these replays. Holding a glove within an inch of a player is not the same as tagging him. By the time it's clear the glove has made contact, the runners looked safe. That's why the call on the field "stands," not "confirmed," not "overturned." Just "stands."
Freeman was safe. Uniforms count as part of the player when worn properly. His leg leaves the base, but you can see that the pants leg is still slightly touching the base until the glove comes around to touch. Maybe it was a single frame of him technically not being on the base, I could see the argument. But are we really going to nitpick down to the frame for a stolen base?
Yes, they are, and it's the reason everyone slides head first now. When replay first started, everyone was sliding feet first, and there was usually this brief little "hop" when they stood up which took them off the bag for a split second, and they would call them out upon review if they kept the tag on them during said hop. Which is why it's so ludicrous now that they're letting all these calls stand.
In the postseason, absolutely nit pick!
All of these people are forgetting the replay rule. Conclusive evidence against the call overturns, inconclusive evidence *even leaning towards an overturn* cannot result in an overturn. Literally none of these were conclusive but the postseason always brings out the whiners.
When they showed the replay center, you could see CB Bucknor’s head. That was the problem.
The first one was really close, the very base of the foot might have been touching, not really sure. I think not overturning that is ok. The second looked very clearly out. The third was close, and with everything going on in it, I can sort of see them not over turning it, but he did look briefly off the bag.
first one was most obviously out, there's dirt between his shoe and the base because he slid so early that he's coming in slow. he also takes his foot off while the tag is still on
Calling someone out for their foot coming a millimeter off the bag after they’ve beaten the throw is the dumbest thing about replay
@@Flashfm3000 His foot was never on the bag until after the tag. He missed the bag entirely.
His spike might have very well touched the base, that’s why he was able to stop so sharply.

None of these are indisputable. In each case in this video, you have to assume (but not see) when parts of the body or uniform touch a base or when a glove hits a leg. And I don't believe you can do so with 100% confidence for any of the examples in this one.
Yeah, the Jazz call wasn't "botched". He's probably out, but you can't be even be sure now, after 20 hours of detailed analysis. So there's no way the replay ump should've overturned the call. He needs to be sure to overturn a call.
Same with the Freeman play. There's no definitive evidence that he's out, his pant leg could've been on the base the whole time.
But that's neither here nor there. A much bigger issue I have, which no one in the media seems to be covering: The Astros have been ELIMINATED, right? So why the fucking fuck are the Yankees still having to deal with Yuli fucking Gurriel, in a playoff series? How the fuck is that fair?

Also, baseball isnt rigged, umps and officials just suck sometimes haha 😂
yankees one is standard "too close to overturn." dodgers one is the right call, fabric of the pant leg is still touching the bag. mets one is egregious.
You can literally see daylight between his foot and the bag. That's only too close to overturn if you're a Yankees fan.
I just got home from the Padre game, I didn’t even know the call was the close.
I think his pants could have still been touching the base. As per the rules the pants are part of the player if they're worn properly, IMO not enough evidence to overturn the call. The other two examples were egregious though.
I mean i think these are super close. We're theorizing frame by frame, coming to a pretty good guess, and then being mad mlb didn't change the call?
especially when the rule dictates that the umpire has to have absolute certainty in order to overturn. if they are not entirely sure, hell they could be 90% sure it was worng, but that 10% by rule means the play can not be overturned.
the yankees one wasn't that close the other two were a bit closer, jazz even fully takes his foot off when coming up

The last one I can agree. That was ridiculously close and I couldn't say for sure if he was off or on. The first two though... yeah guess someone in NY had some money on that.
There just wasn't enough to overturn. If he was called out and Yankees challenged, they also would not have overturned.
Spoken like a yankees fan. You can see daylight between his foot and the bag. Cope harder. he was 100% out, and it shouldn't matter what the call on the field was. If he was touching the bag, why would he hop off it and reposition his foot like he did? Big risk to take if his foot was already touching the base.
Not related to this clip, this call. I got home from work last night. And I watched Shohei’s homer. And I was immediately reminded of a video someone put together a few years back about pitchers hitting homers. The last one was Shohei drilling one off of Cease while Sho was an Angel and Cease a White Sock. It was almost the exact same pitch. Same concept to me. “Hey, you throw 98. Buzz him high. He’ll swing through it.” Someone needed to have that clip in their mental library so they could yell, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!!!!”
They have to have enough to overturn it and all three of these were way to close IMO and they made the right call. There wasn't total clear evidence to show otherwise. Yes it looks like it if you want to see it that way but by rule that's not how it works
it wasnt just the review booth either, both mets and phils got bad calls from home plate, but they really tried to fuck the mets on more than a few. pitches to iglesias, nimmo, harper walking to first on strike 3, etc and when clear balls like that are being called strikes, it makes these guys swing at stuff they know they shouldnt be offering at which changes the whole game. i've always been against the automated strike zones, but really i wanted to turn off a DS game in the 3rd inning home plate was so bad.
1:29 I knew it would stand. It has to be obvious and that call wasn’t obvious enough to overturn.
It looks obvious. There are many close calls like that
His foot came off the bag, which is not being shown here. He was definitely out.
@@Templestone Exactly. If it wasn’t obvious, announcers would have not called it blatantly “a wrong call”.
One of the most frustrating things about US sports replay in particular is they act like the umpire on field saying the replay result (1) has any say over the replay result (outside of initial call), or even (2) adds any trustworthiness to the call being reported. The lack of transparency with replay- the refusal to see inside the replay booth, see what the replay officials are showing, etc- has always been the problem, and multiple other sports (international cricket in particular) are so much better on that front. Go watch a replay of a challenge in cricket and you'll see what SHOULD be the norm.
Sorry but I do not think there was enough to call out Jazz Chisholm. In the replay, the Dirt is clearly in the way of seeing if he touching. Maybe he is out but I wouldn't have overturn the call for what looks like less then a flies wing. There has to be 100% proof
I’m willing to concede that there may not be enough to overturn the call on the initial slide into the bag, but his momentum on the pop-up carries him above the bag while the tag is still applied. 100% beyond doubt he’s out at that point.
@@ericsundvold2190yep, AND NOT EVEN BROUGHT UP AT THE TIME…
Horrible look for MLB. This casts doubt when you call him safe and he scores the winning run.
The Dodger and the Yankee ones were straight up non-conclusive and whatever the call on the field was would stand. The Mets one was a straight up missed call.
jazz was clearly out, with trea it's harder to tell if the glove is actually touching him since we don't have a synced up view from the side
@@wonday2738 it was not clear, none of them were. The Trea one was the closest and probably should’ve been overturned.
Not gonna lie as a yankee fan I can say they got it wrong but the Yankees deserved this. The Yankees have gotten screwed so many times this season because of the umpires being blind even when seeing replay. But that’s just me
Replays are really making baseball so lame. We're sitting here analyzing millimeters. It just feels so silly. None of these calls would've been controversial before this NFL bullshit they brought in
That is the point being missed here. MLB is only looking to overturn egregious calls. If a play is close, they aren't going to overrule the umps. Which is the correct way to go.
@@rusrockt10completely agree. It's why baseball is played in series. I would understand being this critical if it was single elimination but that's what I like about the sport. Winning a series pretty much eliminates any argument that a wrong call made a team lose. Teams have to be consistently good to win. I just can't be mad or care about plays that you have to shift between one or two frames to decide. Umps made good calls here.
Yeah this was a worthwhile experiment, but it turned out not to be the improvement we hoped it would be. They should just let umpires umpire, the games would go faster
This chain is stupid. Replay is supposed to make the right call on both egregious and closely missed calls and fix them. The only call that the argument, "not enough evidence" is the Freddie call.
This is also not the first time MLB has hurt the Royals on bad replays this season too. If they don't want replays they should take it out, but by having it you have to make the right call every time or you lose the integrity of the system.
@noble3515 It is not intended to analyze calls down to a millimeter. That precedent has been established. Learn what clear and convincing means.
Gonna play devil's advocate. I think this is nothing actually new - they really don't generally overturn calls unless there is no possible way to interpret the video the way it was called on the field.
If there's any avenue to say "well, maybe there's a 0.001% chance that some of his fabric is just barely grazing the edge of the bag at the moment he was tagged" then they're not gonna overturn.
It's a frustrating rule but, that's the rule.
I will do 1 push up for every like this comment gets
I'm glad the announcers can speak their mind. In boxing, Teddy Atlas used to complain that they were barred from or punished for any disparaging remarks toward the refereeing.
Too close to call. On field decisions should stand.
I've been saying it all year after watching them get the call wrong TWICE. The replay umpire HAS to Angel Hernandez!
