I know the Lovely Ladies get some hate when they appear on tour because the setlist is more predictable, but their contributions to this tune really make it a pleasure to listen to for a change.
they do?! Dave's behavior in this song has shown me an example of the man I want to be - Carter is REDIC in the song (like all songs) and the sax solo is AMAZING BUT he helps shine the three female singers of color. This is an example of manhood to me.
@@albertcavaliero4392 yeah, I mean what’s it been now 7 years since they had the LL on tour? Maybe more? So the hate is definitely reduced, especially if we don’t think they’ll be part of the tour again. I think ppl are down on them because when they’re on tour there are like 10 songs where they’re featured so you’re bound to get 5-7 of those every night.
I agree with you though, and that’s the sentiment of my comment, at least in this particular recording they really help take the song to the next level and I really appreciate them being on it.

Phish Phan here as well! Both bands are so good! DMB is actually one connection closer to Jerry than Phish is. DMB opened for the Dead in May of ‘95 and Carter even sat in on Drumz

This is one of his most fun songs to play acoustically. It teaches you a lot of chord, transitions, timing and rhythm.

What are the lyrics they repeat at the end? I hear something different every time.
Alex Curtin the original lyrics just repeat the nonsensical phrase "hey la", but in this version Dave was singing "yay la".
I was at this show... My 5th time seeing Dave. After the previous 4 being amazing shows.. THIS ONE BLEW! The venue didn't allow printing out GA tix bought online so there was a TWO HOUR WAIT FOR TICKETS. They finally just let everyone in without checking tickets. Fun. Then, the set list would have been very average but they kept on adding on 10 minute solos at the end of 80% of the songs... with most being the banjo from the opening act (Bella Fleck). I've never been to a concert where I heard more conversations going on around us.. The show was so boring that everyone was talking and waiting for the crazy solos to end and to hear a song we knew. Very odd. For as long as it took to get in, 50% of the GA crowd was gone after an hour because of the crap venue and set list.

complaining about sax solos huh? I've seen Dave upwards of 10 times and loved the show every time.
This song came out good but I do notice Dave struggling with his voice singing here which is very unusual for him. I have seem them 40 times over the last 20 years and I can only think of one concert that was on the weak side for DMB. I could hear mistakes being made all over the place it was very strange, come to find out Dave was sick that night and the band as a whole just had a bad night
This is the best dmb show I've ever seen, and I've been to 7.... set was amazing aside from the closer! BOWA opening was awesome...
They were all existentialist and they all agreed they existed at about the same time in history. We exist! Big wooptie do! But it was the start of a more confident rise in the middle classes. Very contemporary! We too are too impressed with our technological advances.

Agreed. Both him and Dave grew in the church but they clearly never had a true sense of encounter that they ended rejecting it. I'm thankful for their music at least

Maybe not the best shirt lol but it doesn't mean what I think you are refering to. Plus religion has nothing to do with any of this..almost all of their music is about peace and love and the struggle one encounters to find their inner peace and happiness.
+Dave Martellino sad thing is you'll never find any of what you listed apart from Christ. So it does have to do with it but not religion instead Salvation from death. I love the Lord my Saviour, and also the music the band produces. It's not hatred we love these men for the beautiful music and memories they have shared and given us.

Did you really just tell me that I can't find peace, love, or a struggle between inner peace and happiness without Christ? I'm not religious, nor have I ever been in my life, and I would consider myself extremely happy, peaceful, and loving. If you rely on some mythological being to remain loving and remind you not to harm others in life, I'm a bit worried... I'm not trying to bash on religion in any way - it doesn't bother me whether anyone believes in a higher power or not. What does bother me is when people try to bring their religion into other people's lives as you are doing now ("you'll never find any of what you listed apart from Christ"). This is why I get so furious when people bring religion into law (attempting to ban abortion, gay marriage, etc.). Keep your beliefs to yourself. Somebody else loving someone of the same gender does not impact you, nor should it.
I think DMB is the only band where the backing vocals have better voice than the lead one lol

Before DMB came about Dave was playing and singing at night clubs. His voice caught the attention of many musicians. I have always loved his voice. Dave Matthews father told Dave that his singing voice sounded so nice he could even get away with singing out of tune and still sound good. With that being said he has a tendency to pronounce words very oddly when he is singing making it difficult to make out what words he is singing especially to the people who don't listn to him often. He is straight tone singer most of the time which personally i normally do not like, but Daves style is legendary never the less. Straight Tone meaning lack of any vibrato. A god example of someone who sings far from straight tone would be Stevie NIcks. Another contrast Justin Beber totally straight tone compared to Shawn Mendez lots of controlled vibrato
