I'm having some trouble starting an art business. In the country where I live, they created several laws that make it difficult for me to sell my art, no matter how hard I try to get the necessary documents, I find myself with another obstacle.😟

Same here, like all the taxes and licences you have to take care of, even if you just want to try yourself out for a bit, you just need to fully jump right into all of that costs. On top of that, at least where I live, you aren't even allowed by your employer to start a business while also working at their company :c

Thanks so much for sharing!! My goal for 2023 is to work on getting my art out there and having multiple sources of income. I am a Graphic Designer at a major company that designs licensed graphic apparel, but I've really been itching to create my own personal art for others to enjoy. This advice is so helpful and inspiring! 😸🍓🐸💖

Started my business about 5 months and make small business goals for myself, so when I achieve them it feels big! It always keeps me encouraged! Watching videos like your channel and many other great artist always makes me feel encouraged too. Because they not only show the best times but they also show the reality and the bad times when it comes to running an art business.

Thank you so much for the advice! I watch a lot of the same art youtubers too. It is hard starting out at first. I'm still just at the beginning of my art journey. Your suggestion about setting smaller goals first as well as long term goals is great. I will do that. I am relearning art and improving my skills still. Also, digital art is harder for me too. I will do my best to use all your helpful advice. Thanks again!

Thank you SO much for being transparent and such a beautiful soul! This is giving me so much motivation and inspiration. Love you Paloma! I’ve been running my small business for close to two years and I recently just got 15 orders this past weekend and now I’m like OK it’s time to set these goals and really branch out! So I know have my Patreon and I’m working on an online shop other than Etsy! The hardest part for me is getting a following :/ because the algorithms ahhhaha but I’m trying to post more and more and get my foot in the door. I can taste making more $$$ and friends in the future! You have been one of my main inspirations. I see that it’s possible, and although a lot of people (including my parents) see being a full time artist as a risk, I am SO ready to be happy and challenged by what I love :) THANK YOU!!!

I would just like to add that I sell my stickers wholesale and the general rule of thumb is Wholesale is Costs x2 and then selling it yourself is wholesale price x2. So for me a 50 cent sticker is $1 each for wholesale.

Sadly, when I first started, I did ask around for recommendations, tips or guidance I was told that local vendors/artists do not like it when other vendors/artists ask anything about manufacturing or help/recommendations, that it is considered taboo and they do not like it. I had people get extremely offended by me asking ig they had a recommendation for a starting point om where to find reputable manufacturers.

i think manufacturing can be a touchier subject for some people, which i do understand because it's hard work finding the perfect manu so i always respect artist's boundaries. but i think when it comes to asking about how to apply to an art market or who to speak to for that, more often than not people are glad to help! i'm so sorry you experienced that
