TalenGio thank you! In the backyards of some houses that date back to the 50’s and 60’s there are air raid/fallout shelters in New Orleans. City hall even had its own shelter and still does to this day.
those sirens are federal electric model 2s if you were wondering. interesting how the core (motor and sound mechanism) of one is standing upright right in the path of where u were walking at 4:01
What I don’t understand is why they didn’t repurpose this building for something, and keep it active so it wouldn’t get like this. If it just needed $77,000 worth of repairs, they could have put it up for auction for private use. Or at lease invested in a sump pump system that would keep it dry. For decades, the place was impenetrable and it really surprising that it’s been left open the way it is.
504RoadTrips could’ve been turned into a great museum but yet it rots. Since the foundation and base of the building is concrete, it could still be rehabbed for a fairly low price. Many people would like to see it turned into a Cold War museum though many feel as if it wouldn’t do well since New Orleans is home to the best WWII museum in the country already. I personally think another museum wouldn’t hurt but that’s just my opinion.
new Orleans politics... shame... if they would have at least kept the water out if there was an emergency or God forbid a nuke at least people could go if they took their own supplies since we can't have basements in Nola esp with the way of world politics right now a nuke is again a possibility...
Me and my cousin went and explored most of this bunker yesterday. It was crazy almost like going back in time. It was extremely gross, but thankfully we had gas masks and all. Was extremely fun and creepy.
If it wasn't such a long drive on a 2000 miles I would love to come and explore this place I'm trying to find I'm mostly intact Nike site that I can go explore there's some around but a lot of them are flooded out but it would take a trash pump a long time pump all that water out so that you could go down underground to see what's there
Me and my abandoned exploration crew (the pit crew) just tried to get into there a month ago. We didnt have weightier's but dude that smell that place had I could no even describe it at all. But thanks for the great video wish we could have gotten in but this video is good enough for me!
Wow! I’m from New Orleans and had no idea this was here. Thanks for showing us that! Ya’ll are brave... I have so many questions about this experience.
@@Logan_vq you absolutely gotta have waders and a respirator, Goggles wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Flashlight with lots of batteries and a good lowlight camera, I used the A7sii for this one. Make sure somebody knows you’re down there and I wouldn’t go alone. Be safe homie!
DeadlyKnot It’s not really worth it at this point. Unless you want to spend a few hundred bucks on some nice waders to throw away when you’re done. If he wants to go though I’ll take him! I’ve been dying to collab with the Deej
That is so cool and I would have never known if anything like this either I just recently started digging into the Nike missile project and the more I found the more I was fascinated by it cuz cool history and the important part of history that we had for our country and states someone should preserve this because they'll never be anything like it again
If I’m not mistaken, that should be from a documentary on Betsy. I believe it’s either on UA-cam or Vimeo. Either way, you should watch it. It’s definitely a wonderful piece of vintage film.
@@TheSafeSquad Could you imagine how much bacteria is down there? I went but chickened out as soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs. The fumes almost made me pass out. How many square feet would you estimate that place to be down there?
Probably a good 15,000. It’s not very big for what it is honestly. And lord knows how many different cultures of bacteria you could pull from that place.
Check out those old HAM Radios. Thats a piece of history, worth thousands of dollars. They use real gold on the mother boards.I would have stripped all of them down, scrapped the gold, and sold the tubes. Would made at least a couple grand no problems.
Gold is always good, but I doubt they function still. I imagine the internals are corroded to hell and back. Wouldn’t be too hard to get them if you’re willing to go through all that nasty water on the 1st floor. That or wait for a good freeze and then you may be able to walk the ice.
It was welded shut for a good while but the city of NO will open it on occasion to make sure the contaminated water isn’t affecting nearby water supplies. We waited a good bit to catch it open at the right time. Couldn’t tell you how many times one of our New Orlean’s sources would tell us it was open and then we’d make the drive just a day later for it to be welded closed again.
This shit looks like a level from Resident Evil
They may actually have to use that bunker one day soon🔥
Woah....I had NO idea we even had a Bunker in New Orleans! Awesome video 😁

Mayor was so rude to throw that jacket at the worker!

It's New Orleans. There is no other explanation for why the city didn't do shit to renovate the property.

What I wouldn't do to get one of those NOS CD sirens in that bunker...
Well, you could always get some waders and a mask. Wouldn’t recommend it though. They are pretty need, huh?
I just went by the entrance and it’s welded shut.
GOOD

I wish I could have those military canteen and radios
I don’t think they’d be much good anymore lol
Looks like something out of a fallout game
Congratulations man! Sweet clips brother.
Thanks for the shoutout
See you next time!
Bandoughz couldn’t have done it without your advice, I’m in Nola till Thursday, let’s link up!
went here today. someone has the door off again
It’s an incredible feat of construction. What a shame that it now looks like part of vaults from the fallout games
Crazyyy

It has now been permanently sealed.
Did they just weld it shut again or did they do something else to seal it off?
I was there not to long ago the seal it shit an ppl open it back up
the door was non existent today!
Checked today and it was back open!
Where did you get the old clip of Victor Schiro, Mayor of New Orleans, who was instrumental in getting this shelter built? Better sound on this one.

Did any of yall get sick down there? Yuck!
No but we also got checked out afterwards. 30 year old stagnant diesel water is always pleasant 😉
