I remember watching this on NBC in the 70's. It scared the bejesus out of me! The 70's was such a great time for horror on tv. Not like the trash on tv today. This episode was my favorite one of all! Thanks for finding and posting this forgotten gem!

This is my favorite episode of the series. It's creepy and chilling with absolutely no gore, death, or injury. Violence is also kept to a minimum and involves only destruction of property but no bodily harm to people or animals. It also stars charming Kim Darby who had a notable career portraying young women caught up in extraordinary and often bizarre circumstances. Thanks for posting !

This is one of my favorites, the only reason it isn't my favorite too, is because it doesn't have the Sebastián "Winston Essex" Cabot prologue and epilogue.
I can't remember why I only saw the one with David Birney and Barbara Parkins, which is the one that one scared me thoroughly!
This series must've come on after my bedtime on Sunday.
Like many kids back then, my bedtime was right after the two hour NBC 7pm-9pm Sunday night power block of Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by Walt Disney's Wonderful World Of Color/Disney.

I saw this particular episode when it first was aired and it is amazing how something like this can have such an effect when you are young. I had nightmares of my own after seeing it, and what I saw was only the last 10 minutes. To see it now in its original context is beyond mind-blowing. Mr. Essex, you should realize that when you post a nostalgic relic like this, it can have a profound effect on people's lives. Thank you so much.

Yeah, I remember the tv shows and tv movies were far more interesting than the cookie cutter junk today. Have you noticed how many shows today have people holding handguns at the ready position as they kick down 1000 doors. The shows today also feature vanilla twenty-something characters who mostly look alike, sporting the same hairstyle even, characters like Cannon and Kojak wouldn't get past today's casting committees The story was important back during the better programming days of the 70s and 80s and most of all, modern "agendas" weren't being pushed on the viewers constantly.I'm sorry I just don't like tv shows nowadays-sequels, super heroes galore and junk.

Well, to be fair, movies are supposed to mirror reality, and in the real world people *do* swear. We could tell that these clean scripts of the 70's were just for show. But i agree that a lot of the vulgarity in today's shows is exagerated.

@@dfunckt I would think people always used curse language, more or less, no matter the decade, but i will not make a claim out of it because i didn't get to see much of the 70's (i was too young). Now, as for *who* swears on screen, i think it's irrelevant. Be it gay or hetero, language is spoken by *people* just the same.

    • @humbertojimmy
      @humbertojimmy 3 роки тому +1

@@dfunckt Personally, i think there should be markets for all tastes and walks of life, from family entertainment to mature content. The broader the choice, the more complete it gets. I don't find vulgar language appealing myself, but i understand that my tastes don't have to be superior to anyone else's (they are just different). And then there are moods, we not always seek the same. Sometimes i might want to see a more "crude" TV show or movie as well, depends on the moment.

Oh man! I remember seeing these on TV all the way back when I was 9 back in 1973. 3 of my fave episodes...the one with the glass jars, the one with John Astin as a former horror movie star turned security guard in an old film lot, and one where a dead man comes back for revenge. Not only that, but it was a great memory of a great time in my life.
A time that, sadly, would be taken from me shortly after due to family issues and the desertion of my father, but one that was great while it lasted. Playing with friends, sleepovers, and Friday and Saturday night horror and sci-fi courtesy of pre-cable TV!

***** Oh cool! Someone else who remembers that one! I used to be allowed to stay up on Friday or Saturday nights around 73' and 74' and Circle Of Fear was part of the viewing fun!
Another great episode? The one I mentioned in my flagship reply, "Graveyard Shift", where John Astin was a security guard on the lot where he was once a major horror movie star.
That episode actually had William Castle in a small cameo as Astin's former director. Good episode if you get a chance to see it!

My mother used to tell me how scared she was of horses, because when she was little she saw a scary movie about a haunted rocking horse. Now that I'm nearly 30 years old, I decided to try to hunt it down. Glad I could find it here (even if it was TV show and not a movie). I have to say, it was a pretty interesting watch. The 70's were a strange time, but this had a great horror element to it without the need for the gore or special effects of today.

I don’t know how I’ve gone my whole life and don’t recall ever seeing this episode or the series. I can see how this one must’ve been pretty terrifying for any child who saw this back in those days. It kind of reminds me a bit of some scenes in ‘Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II’ from 1987. As a character becomes possessed with the spirit of “Mary Lou,” her rocking horse starts doing some bizarre things. I recall its eyes turning red and it stuck its tongue out. Those scenes haunted me for years! I was born in 1979, so I was really way too young to see that movie when I did. I had a vintage bouncy, spring-rider rocking horse in my room. For a long time, I covered it with a blanket at night because I feared it would come alive and I’d awake to it staring at me with scary red eyes. Lol Ah memories…
My father knew Martin Sheen. Ironically, they met at the Kentucky Derby horse races back in the mid-late 1980’s. My father passed away in 2008, but I remember him speaking of how down-to-earth Martin Sheen was. They even spoke about me, but I’ve yet to meet him. This episode is most definitely one of those forgotten gems of cinema’s past. Thank you for sharing it!

I just gave up in finding the movie and actually thought I made it up since nobody I talked to could remember it but I know I didn't make it up and could remember it to this day. I did NOT know it was a vignette from a series but I do remember we use to watch "Chiller Thriller" on channel 11 (WPIX) and that was so good.
