Wintered over in 1980 things were a tad different , lived in a room with a roommate could reach my locker sitting on my bunk and the john was a trash can lined with a plastic bag went 16 days with out a shower.
wow that was quite enjoyable watching.life is so much different from the USA how do u guys stay warm at the house? like what do you have the heat set on? special furnaces?
@@bahtois4741There is a wind farm on Arrival Heights with several wind turbines. The wind farm is shared with the Kiwis from Scott Base about 2 miles away from McMurdo. There was a small nuclear power reactor from 1962 - 1972 half way to top of Observation Hill. But it was deinstallled and shiped back to USA after 1972.
Looks like my dorm room at ASU. Except its not quite as cold in Tempe. Im guessing the guy has no trouble keeping warm at night damn if I had to be stuck in Antartica it wouldn't be too bad with her!
+Jamie Lyon hey Hi Jamie, I just loved your cozy little room tour and want to see more. I am from India and I love to see different places of mother nature and world.
@@queendelegacy09 it was a great experience. Living there for a year, the only thing that happened that doesn't get mentioned it's how the sewer would just get dumped into McMurdo Sound. We also would do a burn of the dump once a week to get rid of the garbage that would burn. I think they may have stopped that now. There aren't any strange structures there and we aren't guarding the earth's edge as some flat earth people claim. It's also a place that belongs to all counties and people. Anyone that wants to explore is free to do so. You just may have issues with going into some areas like the buildings at each base. But you can go anywhere you like. The only problem is that if you need help getting it of there, it's going to cost an arm and a leg. Oh, and the weather is deadly.
@@queendelegacy09 is there an inner city found by Chile explorers they let the pentagon know ...big misake... now nobody can reach that area ..only them
I have so many question.. do you have wifi. Do you pay taxes.. how do you get food? Do you grow food? How do you get power? Who is the boss??? Do u pay bills?! Is there alot of penguins
Dude, they have heat, they pay taxes according to the state or place they come from, supervisors are the boss, then they answer to the higher up management. They have food shipped in 1-2 times a year, and grow sone veggies/lettuce in the green house. Yes, they pay bills, have an ATM, and have a store to buy other necessities from (toothpaste, t-shirts, etc). Power to heat & run everything is generator, and some have converted some power stores to wind & solar.
Ha! There's my Power Plant! Double Ha! I smoked in my room all the time. Anybody who wanted me to step outside for a smoke when it's -50 below zero can kiss my ass. A little creative wiring disabled the smoke alarm. The Cigarette Nazi's never did catch me. ;~{l>

McMurdo needs a tasteful brothel with a dozen women for those of us lacking in charm/people skills cuz male to female population ratio is about 3 to 1.
It would be curious if, due to a "time travel", some guys covered in fur, like bears, first appeared around with some sleds pulled by dogs, killed some dogs and then ate them, put up flags, left a few sentences rituals in Norwegian and they left and soon after, other terribly exhausted appeared, dressed in a way that was not suitable for the terrible weather, spoke something in English about this is terrible! They took some photos and left through the white plain clearly exhausted.
i know this is extremely weird but i like to come back to this video quite often when i feel down or anxious. You kinda look like my mom.
Outside view looks so beautiful... and i like the room too! I love small rooms!
Wow!
When I was there in 71/72 we lived in group tents.
It was quite a adventure!
The C 130’s were fairly ok but hard lots of problems.
Wow.. great view..thanks for sharing.. not many people can see that view

It's looking so amazing.I like isolated places.
Great video guys! What a cool adventure! (hehe...cool...Antarctica...)
Oh Goshh. I found that way too funny. :'D
Thank you somouch for shareing this video so nice view.....
I bet there are some awesome sights from that station

They use the heat coming from the diesel engines that generate power to the station.
@@KaizenSteelDrums do you think they generate power in other ways? like wind or solar or nuclear?

Very cool video , Thanks Jamie
Be careful about the THING! den den deeeden den den :) It should be fun to watch john carpenters the THING in there.
Believe it or not, it is a tradition on all US Antarctic bases to watch "The Thing"! It's the best way to scare newcomers to the continent :P
Question is though, do they drink J&B whiskey out of the bottle like MacReady did. I'm guessing not..
John carpenter...starman
among us
Is it easy sleeping when the Old Ones are not that far away, plotting to rise again when the stars are right?

what type of work do you do there?
thank you sir,mam..
Amazing tour, +Jamie Lyon
love the hair
you have canada goose parka ?
what you guys doing in that cold no way
Anyone else come here from the Condition 1 Weather video? Lol
You guys get some big ass rooms
LOL, One in the morning.
Imagine being in VietNam and then being reassigned there.
Being that close to the water scares me.
Reminds me of IGI2
Sheesh
I wonder why there’s such a strong military presence there
Poncho Wall the US AND NZ AIRFORCE FLY STUFF IN AND OUT, MORE SCIENTIFIC STAFF, MET STAFF THAN ANYONE ELSE,
From the alien base that was discovered
The Elites our there
I kinda want to live in Antarctica isolated from everyone by myself.

Army presence but the Antarctica 🇦🇶 Treaty explicitly prohibits any and all military use hmmm.
The air force flies people in and out and moves cargo. The coast guard also runs an ice breaker.

Thanks for sharing but I couldn't hear you once you started whispering
i want -273 celcius a ice planet earth
are you still alive
too bad we all couldnt recycle like that for the rest of the earth
How do I live here smh
I'm glad there's women there. Do people date or hook up during those cold months.
I was thinking too
They sure do. Some even get married there. Condoms come in by the pallet.
No doubt, there are quite afew places in isolation camps where ppl get it on. You KNOW the cameraman smashed after filming this

That "research " is a total damn waste of money
I agree but I still want a job at McMurdo.

Cannot hear half of what is said. You talk to the wall, not the camera. Ugh!
I understand everything and I'm not even native english speaker.
I understand quite a bit and I am not American.
But you still see what the room looks like so I could care less.
you would think you would of have straightened up a little first
What a mess. How can someone live like that?
