    Q.Was it the rebuild system?
A.Not really, our shields never quite came down until after we chose to ram the disabled Star Destroyer. It's an unusual quirk that makes the smaller target somehow take less actual damage from a multitude of weapons. Imagine 300 arrows hitting a spot but only maybe 20 of them being counted.
The Star Destroyer is shooting at least 35 things at once on target and a good 40 that probably aren't quite on target - add to this that the damage from red phaser is much lower than from oh say blue phaser (Let alone the awfully powerful Charged Polaron I was using to augment it!)
But also, the damage from say, flak, is less than 10% as damaging as any phaser, and even those beam turrets are maybe only 10% as damaging. Whenever one of those flak rounds hits, that is essentially the damage being counted.
This can be seen when approaching with a small grid shuttlecraft... it rocks violently but the shields usually stay up... because flak isn't exactly devastating to shields. In a way it's like peppering the target with a "don't count these shots because flak." sort of effect.
That said never discount the Star Destroyer it has a T1 super laser mounted midship that could have easily burned me to a crisp. It could have and had I held still it certainly might have.
But sure the mystery is feeling sort of ruined - but it's also still quite accurate as in reality Star Wars weapons (according to most things I've read) couldn't really take down Star Trek style shields. Not because it's lasers, (Borg cutting beam was a laser) but because the output across a massive ship like that, signals the sort of intensity of laser... and that allows a Federation Starship (Post Archer's Enterprise Era) to modulate the shield and sort of tune out the successive blasts. The first maybe 6 shots would hit and leave tiny scorch marks... The rest well... "No dice."
Death Star on the other hand... no idea because it's way beyond the 40 GGW shield frequency. Also it's a particle fountain resembling in some ways more of a disruptor. It may have had a wave harmonic that could break through shielding (like butter) on Federation ships. That still wouldn't keep someone from beaming a torpedo into the power core... but that's where the debate seems to stop. I'm not sure why it's sort of fun to imagine all the weird ways it could go.
Who do you think would win and why? Ignoring the science bits - we're talking "The Force" vs "The Transporters"
Would Old Darth be stuck in a pattern buffer with O'Brien shrugging and singing old limericks? Or would Picard maybe give a nod to Troi for a mental slapfight to ensue, resulting in both needing to be frozen in carbonite? Would Worf and Chewbacca run off together to explore their Pagh on Bejor?
    Details guys - fire away!
