If I could suggest a champion / build mid, I suggest AD on-hit thresh mid. Despite the obvious of going Crit, collecting souls on thresh and going ad with predator can lead to some pretty insane moments. There is a youtuber called Cryo who is mostly know for his AD thresh if you are looking for help.

Bard mid from my experience is all about maintaining laning phase as oppose to winning it. Making sure the enemy laner only gets exp from farm and maybe only one kill from me. I always put a shrine down when roaming and almost always assist the jg in river fights or leave a shrine for them if they are near. I also usually only level up e by lvl 7 as I always have at least a few chimes close by to take while i try to get my levels and gold. I just gotta remember to never travel too far just yet. After that I usually splitpush and assist any lanes that look like they have open picks while watching objs. Bard's roaming makes it pretty easy for him to just take a kill from enemy adc if they aren't ahead and are alone too. After that, its almost all about the plays or decisions until you have at least two items and a minimum of 50 chimes. That's when the real fun begins.
I take electrocute, cheap shot, ghost poro and relentless, with revitalize and depending on how bursty the enemy champion is, either boneplating, or conditioning. I do this since early game my shrines do most of the teamwork for me whenever i am not with a teammate. I also sometimes go Barrier or Exhaust since your Ignite will almost never come into play in lane if your opponent isn't reckless or greedy, and will probably only use it if the junglers fight a lot near you.
It's been tons of fun and I've won games against champions like Galio, Zed and even Zoe (Even got an S on that last one with a KDA of 5/2/12.
