Thanks for sharing this. I need to come up with a way to feed the "community cats" that hang around here. I've got them neutered and their ears clipped, now just need a way to feed them for several months at a time. Thinking to do this with a 32 gallon can and mount it on and tie it to cinderblocks

Will Definitely make some, been using 5 gal style and they last a couple weeks at best. We hang all our cans now anyways so the rope and pully set ups are already in place. Thanks for sharing

That's a very cool setup to put around the property.

We have some just like this on our lease that are 15+ years old and have been working great. We've had to replace a motor or 2 but the cans are great. They have been hanging from the handles the whole time.

Awesome video, I love the ingenuity, but I don’t know what you paid for that trash can - around here you can get used 55 gallon steel barrels for $5-$10. The one I bought for the feeder I built this year was used for honey previously, it smelled so good. Still rinsed it out cause I didn’t want to risk the corn sticking together, and it attracted bees like crazy. 😂. And you don’t really need to use that funnel, as the weight of the corn acts as a natural funnel. I’ve never used funnels in my feeders over the years and haven’t had any issues.

The multrie plastic gravity feeders 40lb. have been doing fine by me. I will be adding some medal to the corners to prevent the squirrels from chewing through. i notice a small hole in on one of my feeds last week looks like the squirrels had a hard time getting through. For the most part the feeders doing great. i have three setup ordering another. the positive is that turkey also hang around the feeders caught them on my trail cam along with possem and raccoons mostly squirrels. Deers around but not at the feeder yet then again i haven't had my trail cam out there for 2 weeks i may have missed the deer and the corn was all gone. It would have been nice if the feeder had medal around some of the container. The feeders are cheap on amazon all three under $60. If the feeders last two years then it's worth it. Nice work on the container looks good and thanks for the video.

That's cool but I would put some grey tape sealant that will keep the tape in place instead of pulling off and corn getting pass the makeshift plate and rot.

I use a 31 gallon - $20 trashcan from walmart - same feeder - forget legs if you have bears - use a hang on hunting stand [Ameri-step ] - walmart sells them for $40 in the off season . Cut a hole in the grate - hang it on a tree - set thrashcan/thrower up there and turn it on. 31gal. can will hold 150lbs of corn . You can hang two of them - turn the feeders down lowish and it will last for 5-6 weeks - I use three of them so I have 450lbs. of corn each throwing for a few seconds per day dawn/dusk - will last 2+ months .
The funnel thing is fine idea but I don't use one and it works fine , just a few handfulls of corn that won't get thrown .
You'll need a ladder to reach up and fill it , if you have bad bear problems - hang it 7-8 feet up and put some aluminum flashing material on the tree so nothing can climb the tree . Be very careful climbing a ladder with a sack of corn - falling sucks and can kill or paralyze you . tie the ladder to the tree . Take a five gallen bucket up at a time .

This project is perfect to add a winch to and make a bear proof deer feeder... if anyone is wondering what to do next, search bear proof deer feeders, add a winch and a cable and hoist that thing up. Will give it a try and report back... excellent project.

Why not just cut a 1 by 1 1/2 hole on bottom side of can. Place can on piece of plywood and push two steel rods on either side of can. so you can place it any place you want.... Can holds two fifty lb bags of corn.... And of course you can paint the can camo.... You may have to replace the plywood every five years or so... 25 to 30 lb galvanize can at Home Depot , Lowes for feed store... Attach rope to the rods that wen thru the handles to secure can to ground and tie rope thru and over lid to keep varmints out.... Reload corn every two weeks for so..... Don't forget you trail cam..

We can’t bait deer where I live even if I could I wouldn’t. I’m all about fair chase I see no gratification in shooting a deer over bait however I do plant beautiful food plots and the deer pound them.

Well.... haven't been able to bait last 2 years. I've been out 3 times this season and had shots twice. 2 out of 3 isnt bad.. State land no bait or food plots may I add very challenging compared to bait. Good news is got a disc for side by side can't wait! Plots are the way to go foods always there. Good luck this year!

@@MrTeamyoda well that’s a good start! I actually shot a very nice doe this evening off my food so gratifying when you put the work in and get rewarded. I’ll now wait for when the bucks are cruising for does so I’m not educating them and keep my property quiet for a bit. Good luck rest of season hope ya get a good one👍

You get no gratification hunting over “bait”, what do you call your food plot? Do you plant it just because it looks pretty? No, you plant it to attract (i.e. “BAIT”) game. But please continue with your sanctimonious judgments against the horrors of providing supplemental feed (instead of plants) to attract deer. I’m sure there’s a lot of guys like me who wish they could afford the land and equipment necessary to plant food plots. As it is, I’m going to try to plant small food plots literally by hand on our heavily wooded property for next season. I love it how people think a corn feeder is just some magic potion that guarantees success, like “shooting fish in a barrel”. On a previous deer lease, I used to hunt on the edge of a winter wheat field that the rancher planted for his cattle. It attracted, or “baited”, way more deer than any of our feeders. I’m not knocking you for your food plots, like I said, I dream about hunting over beautiful, luscious, deer attracting glorious crops. It’s just that everyone’s personal situations, and property limitations, are different, and maybe we as hunters should stick together and not be so judgmental of each other without knowing the facts. Anyways, congratulations on your doe, I hope you get an awesome mature buck this season too - I wish you great success!
