Simple pear chutney: 12 pears chopped small, 3 onions, chopped small, 600ml cider vinegar. 250g brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and teaspoon salt. Bung them all in a big pot, bring to simmer for about 20 mins (stir occasionally) then put into sterilised jars. (Makes 4 jars) 👍
River Cottage pear cake, 3 pears - peeled, cored and quartered - 150g unsalted butter 125g caster sugar 2 medium eggs 75g wholemeal self raising flour 75g ground almonds Generous pinch of cinnamon For the pears:- 25g unsalted butter 1 teaspoon granulated sugar Preheat your oven to about 170C or Gas Mark 3. Line the bottom of a well-greased round cake tin, either springform or loose bottomed if you can. Something in the region of 20cm diameter would be good. In a frying pan melt the 25g butter, add the sugar and when bubbling add your pears when it looks like the sugar has dissolved and the butter is bubbling - you can stir it through gently whilst this happens, before the pears go in. Turn them a few times till they start to take on some colour, which should take 5-10 mins or so. Take off the heat and set aside. In a mixing bowl, with beaters or in your mixer, beat the sugar and butter together till it’s as light and fluffy. Beat in one egg at a time with a spoonful of flour. Then by hand mix through the remaining flour, the ground almonds and cinnamon/spice till combined. Spoon the mix into your cake tin and smooth out, then lay on the pears. Pour over the remaining buttery-sugar juice from the frypan. Into the oven to cook - should take about 40mins or so but just wait till a skewer comes out clean
Thank you both, for sharing even when you are very busy. You only seem to get some time to yourselves when you are ill. Take care both of you. Without you I would be stuck indoors. Fay
I love a days ramble around doing normal day to day things. We are all the same, normal. Your pear tree was fabulous, a good yield. The plums looked good too. Stewed plums and custard mmmmm. Pear upside down cake is nice instead of pineapple. Baby Franks tongue was funny, a lovely blue. I love family life. Good old Wrangler jeans. My husband wouldn't buy anything else. Thank you Sharon and Martin for sharing.
Martin. The traditional way of harvesting the plumbs, is to put a sheet or tarpolin under the tree, and then shake it like mad. All of the ripe plumbs will fall off. This is usually done by machine on comercial farms, but you could try it in your own garden.
We had a lovely cherry tree in our back garden in London. We were never able to get to the fruit before the birds tho. One year a pal of ours climbed up into it to trim it for us. He chucked down big branches heaving with cherries. We had kilos of them. I took them in to work - they didn't last long! 😋 I have to say l'm not a big fan of fruit, but l swear I've never tasted cherries so sweet! 🍒 Naturally organic (like everything used to be back in the day). Nice.
You could stew the pears then freeze in portions, that way pear crumble, pears and custard, pears and Carnation ( other evaporated milks are available 🤣) etc etc really good yield from your tree. Thanks for another great video, haven't been to Tattershall for years.x
I know Prague very well spent a lot of my time in that lovely place.not a pear fan but absolutely love a plumb. The gee I’ve decided upsets my tummy, if Becky makes a home made curry with no gee I’m good Another great episode 👍👍👍👍👍👍
i dunno if you can have it on your diet thing your on Martin but you can make a pear and almond cake, i am very surprised on how many you have gotten my nan has a apple tree and that varies on the year with how many she gets x
also, butter chicken isn't very spicy i would say its the same heat level as a korma really i can't handle spicy foods suffer with acid reflux so i tend to have a butter chicken, could i request a video on using the slow cooker meal using the pressure cooker? would like to know how to use that setting not used it much on my own cosori pressure cooker x
That was a great crop of pears. I didnt get one😢 although my pear tree is quite young so fingers crossed it will do better in a few years. Altogether it was a bad year for apples particularly in my part of Wales but I have got a freezer full of fruit from last year already so plenty to keep me going.😊
I had to send my Shark back because it had an electrical fault after maybe 3 months. Contacted Amazon and they offered a new motor for us to fit. I said no in no uncertain terms and phoned Shark. They said straight away we will replace just send the duff one back. I told them Hubby had disposed of the box (much to my disgust I'm a box hoarder) The said no worries just send it back in the box you get the new one in, they delivered and collected in 2 days. How's that for service
They look like Conference Pears ,they tend to be harder ,my perfect pear i always buy , you could always make Pear and Ginger chutney ,it’s yummy and perfect for pressure cooking ❤ it’s a nanny state atm ,they are controlling everything,i think ,they think ,we are stupid 😮 Thankyou for sharing 👏👏💖😎
Going to Whitby, are you? Go for a ride on the open-topped buses - two of my now-deceased uncles set them up - ride on top, if you can! If the weather’s nice, that is!
Think you must have bought bad weather home with you! We're not far from you and it did not let up raining all day on Monday. So depressing. Dog hates it: have to shoehorn him out the back door into the garden for a wee! Tuesday started bad too. What a brilliant introduction to normally beautiful Autumn! Have to say those pears look lovely. 🍐 I'm off all things sweet/fatty (health scare!)...but the thought of a warm pear crumble with cold custard has me salivating 😋 Someone's suggested donating them to the Ragged Apron = great suggestion! 👍
Brilliant crop of pears! You could do preserves of course - and a pear and bramble crumble would be good I'm sure! A tip for Martin's digestion - try Kashmiri Chilli powder if you haven't already. It's very palatable without the 'fire in your belly ...... and worse if you get my drift'! Amazon sell it - Rani brand is the highest rated and my chap loves it!
Hi Martin and Sharon . The weather in uk ewww . That’s why we. Came to Perth Australia lovely and warm here.. your welcome to stay with me and my husband .. 😀 👍🏾
What an amazing amount of pears and they look delicious. How about Pear tarte tat-an? Ooh yeah Pear crumble. Good price on the CDs n DVDs good choice too. Most of London is 20MPH now. And today I was glad of that as some idiot decided to play on his phone whilst driving straight towards me on my side of the road. He stopped just in time, looked at me without a care, drove back to his side and still had the phone in his hand. I despair and it was a bit scary too 😱. Was nice to come home and calm down watching your day. Thank you.
You both look great in your t-shirts. And sweatshirt.. Bambi. You need your coat on to keep you dry and warm. This time of year Don't blame you for going away. To prarg and other places. Like Whitby. And others.. good for you both. Im in north wales and weve been 20 mph (even on some of the arterial roads) for over a year. Its been a nightmare. Its only now after all the local people complaining that they have reversed it bit by bit. What a waste of money😅.The little town i live in was chosen to pilot the scheme when it all started so we have actually had this in place longer than rest of wales.I totally agree 20mph near schools ect but not main roads.😊
You could make crumbles and pies for the freezer. I dont bake the pie before freezing that way it tastes better freshly baked. You could also make a light augar syrup and store in jars 🫙 😋

Hi Martin and Sharon . I sent sone friends that are staying near woodhall spa to the ragged apron , sadly they commented that the peoole that served them were very rude and they almost walked out . The food wasn’t anything special either. I said this didn’t seem right , but it appears that the raged apron has just been taken over, so it looks like they may need to go a long way to keep Dales quality up Sadly they say they won’t be going again . Sadly I had told them they could get all their food there while they were that way . What’s happened . ?? Is it right that Dale has sold it. They read this info
Not sure about that Karen, Dale and Nicola are still there. Maybe there was an issue you were not told about if there was a problem. I have never heard them (or any of the staff) being rude to customers.
I must agree , I wasn’t there , from what I have seen it looked very nice and Dale and Nicola were lovely . So it does seem odd . Hence really why I have had to ask you , it appears they read when checking up on I will check where that the ownership had changed about a month ago . I believe they have left a review so they said they would see if they replied . Thank you for your feedback , you’re very kind to have replied back . I will find out where they found the info . About change over . The couple are dealing with Jan being very very ill , so maybe like you say it was a bad day . They aren’t as a rule funny but I know they are under pressure hence why they have had a break . X Take care both .

The sixth sense is one of the best films I’ve ever seen ! Highly recommend

River Cottage pear cake,
3 pears - peeled, cored and quartered -
150g unsalted butter
125g caster sugar
2 medium eggs
75g wholemeal self raising flour
75g ground almonds
Generous pinch of cinnamon
For the pears:-
25g unsalted butter
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Preheat your oven to about 170C or Gas Mark 3. Line the bottom of a well-greased round cake tin, either springform or loose bottomed if you can. Something in the region of 20cm diameter would be good.

Into the oven to cook - should take about 40mins or so but just wait till a skewer comes out clean
We had lots of pears this year too. Love the way you two still hold hands when you are out and about .
