It's funny how Dave said his favourite animal is a dog because he really is like a big sweet friendly puppy dog, always draping his arms over everyone. Alan likes cats, and he is pretty, guarded, and watchful, just like a cat. I love how close Alan and Dave sit together too. Gorgeous boys. I love you Dave Gahan!
Of course he's missed, but as a Londoner his accent is not posh. Maybe you're more exposed to Multicultural London English nowadays, but he's accent is well spoken working class or lower middle class, which sums up his London suburb. Yes, I'm great fun at the water cooler.
@@jaysterling26 Probably, what do I know LOL. English is not even my first language, but anyway he is a very well-spoken man. Every member of DM is. However, I can hear the difference between Dave's / Martin's accents. Maybe it's just his speech patterns. I love studying linguistics, it's fun.
What a brilliant find, hilarious to find them chatting all morning on the breakfast TV sofa just to promote the slightly pervy Master and Servant single 😂 Surreal to see Dave discussing Pat Nevin's review of their single with Greavsie too! AND Dave's parrot
I am a fan of Alan's, not Depeche Mode, but I love this cosy interview because it shows him and Dave Gahan at their best, before all the divisions set in in that band. Alan was/still is a gorgeous, breath-taking heart-throb, and brilliant musician. Please come back Alan, I grew up in the 80s and have severe 80s nostalgia for individuals like you!! And thank you to the person who uploaded this video - AliceinDave. It has taken the edge and the pain away a bit, from wishing I could go back to the 1980s. I also like the birthday card readings, so cute and such a nice thing to do. Producers wouldn't do things like that now, on television, would they, too simplistic; it is always attention seeking activities on TV.
Couldn't agree more, Alan was the sound of DM and was greatly unappreciated. Depeche Mode has sounded like ass ever since his departure - I don't want him to ever come back as they don't deserve him. They caused too much stress on the man and he's much better off leaving that whole part of his life behind forever.
@@boris9712 I absolutely agree with everything you say. I am not a fan of that band, I don't like the other three because of their attitudes (and especially their rudeness and trashy behaviour) : Alan Wilder made them massively successful, and they treated him so badly, diabolically. It just goes to show, that there is always a price to pay - with every fairy tale rags to riches story, as this is, and poor Alan paid it. An absolute travesty, and a shame. Perhaps being famous and wealthy is not so great - look at 99% of them, they just can't handle it, as my brother said; their egos become out of control, (and I don't mean Alan, he is nice, with his feet on the ground).
@@boris9712 there was sound before him(Alan), and I belong the group that is adore Alan's huge work on DM. Weaker in music and sound a bit but strong in toughts. He (Martin) was really under pressure to take Vincent's part. Alan was not that fussy to write songs, but obviously that is the part of the business. I really like to compare between Martin and Alan's vision on one of the first hit for me when I was a kid called "To have and to hold" at that time. Thanks that was not mainstream :D
@@rafiqadarr6217look at Alan physically now and the other two surviving members and they look shit . Jagged , even creepy looking and tired . Alan looks normal . As Dave said he chose happiness.
Much as I love this (big thanks to the taper/uploader), I wish so much that it would turn up in higher quality. I've seen so many other interviews on GMB around this time in really good quality, and this interview is so endearing - I love seeing Dave and Alan interact back then, and I really hope they're still on good terms today. I wonder if this episode still exists in the TV archives?
''Depeche Mode'' means ''Fashion Dispatch''. ''Dépêche'' here is a noun, not a verb or adjective. The French reflexive verb ''se dépêcher'' means ''to hurry'' (We don't have a direct equivalent to the English ''hurry'' and so litterally we call it ''dispatching oneself''..), but ''dépêcher'' alone is ''to dispatch, to send hurriedly''. The noun ''dépêche'' therefore translates as ''dispatch'', and ''mode'' of course is ''fashion'', so ''Fashion Dispatch''. On a side note, I don't know why people say that Alan looks bored here. I find him to be more smiling and cute than I've ever seen him, really. Okay so he's slouchy, but isn't he always?.. Also that lady (who I quite like otherwise) was talking to Dave 90% of the time, so hard for Alan to engage much.. Personally I'm finding him quite lovely.. ;)
I know Dave was the closest person who Alan was close to during his years with Depeche Mode, fortunately they're still friends to this day, also why wasn't Andy and Martin with them for the interview?
When will they get recognition in the UK? Has there been a more succesful British band over the past 40 years? Other bands get bigger, have a couple of big albums but don´t last.
I agree. Same thing in the US. For God sake, induct them into the R&RHOF- while the four of them (with Wilder, who clearly made DM all that it is) can enjoy the honor! 💖 Long long overdue!
I wished these guys didnt have a fallen out and stayed together. Such a shame Alan left the band and the band members and the manager didnt show Alan the respect that he deserved.
I think, I THINK, they just actually said exactly the same thing at the very same time? I think it's just the reason why they're giggling... But I'm not quite sure... :/
Depeche Mode's single "Master and Servant" mentioned here as a new one was released on August 20th, 1984, so I'm guessing this morning show interview was filmed late August 84 or early September. Their album Some Great Reward was released on September 24th, 84 💿 🎶
This is the famous interview where afterwards, legend has it, Dave slipped a willing Ann Diamond his love sausage in the lavatory across the corridor from the green room. Apparently Dave wasn't the first or last guest to indulge in Diamond's delights.
I'd say no - I think they even referred to themselves as " futurists" - almost definitely without knowledge of Italian futurists ( but use of sounds a bit similar..?).
@@jaysterling26 Depeche Mode did *not* like to be called futurists, either. People called them that because "Photographic" was on the _Some Bizarre_ record, and they regretted agreeing to be a part of that because of this.

Interesting and true remark!
they resemble these animals even physically

Without Alan. Depeche mode sound is trash.
