I’ve been using the Metanium Shallow Spool for a few months now. It put it through a hand full of wade trips, and kayak trips. It’s been through many slots and today I landed a 30 inch Bull Red on it. It handed it well. I thought for a second I was gonna get spooled, but t I didn’t have the breaks turned all the way up. It cast a mile with ease, and it’s able to cast 1/16 oz lures pretty easy as well. It’s a work horse!
I have the XG version.. the handle knobs center to center is approximately 90mm. Just as a note I was able to stuff about 113 yards of Varivas 8 #1.5 on the spool. In case anyone was wondering, the spool bearings should be 5x11x4, 3x10x4, and 5x9x3. The reel weight loaded with braid was 6.0 oz even on my scale.
Got one from digi a while ago. Wish I had the discount code then, lol. I think this reel is a great reel for a trout rod. The non shallow met is not great for light lures, this corrects that. I have used it to go from light to heavier lures and it does require a fair amount of adjustment to get it right. The zillion doesn't. Just putting that out there. Both cast my 1/8 spoon great. A reel that doesn't seem to get much mention is the curado 150 mgl. It throws light lures as well as the shallow met. It throws heavy lures close to the same as the non shallow met. It has more brake adjustment. It's not as smooth but darn close. Even with my shallow met, normal met, zillion, and custom lite I find myself going to my 150 mgl curado more often.

It’s so smooth, just a beautiful piece and can do most everything. Anyone I’ve let try it, is blown away by its smoothness and casting. I just love everything about it. It fits amazing in the hand…I could go on and on!
I just got given a medium light 7’0” Kistler rod as a gift. Like woah, that is an expensive gift and I am lucky. I know RX is sponsored by Old 18 but Kistler is also one of the other excellent rod brands out of the Houston area. Trying to find and decide on a worthy reel for it!
so is this better than a Chronarch? lol i really am not a “reel nerd” and even only fish a few times a month, but do enjoy it a lot. But my dad is a way more avid angler than me and he still has some early 00’s chronarch models and swears by them. Use to always say to me it’s the best it’s the best they’re the best! Haha so I am sure that engineering has evolved over the years to be even better.... but am curious if anyone would know how to compare it if it is an applicable comparison. If not, no worries.
I have both the Tranx 150 and Met Shallow Edition in my hand right now. On feel alone you’re not going to be OMG. Both are equally smooth and you won’t be disappointed with the Tranx. The Tranx 150 loaded with 30# Fins Windtamer is tipping my scale at 6.8 oz and the Met SE at 6.0 oz loaded with Varivas #1.5.
@@DefinitelyNotABot713 same I grabbed 2 tranx 151s and have 6 Mets. I enjoy both. I don't fish salt with Mets so I was happy of how well the tranx cast and felt.

I just received my Metanium shallow edition from Digitaka today! The weather should be warm enough tomorrow to at least go try casting some different lure weights, from 1/16 rooster tail to 3/8 Berkley Gilly.
The lower gear ration models come with 42mm Handle. Only the the XG comes with a 45mm handle. I purchased the HG from Digitaka and just purchased an XG Handle. It's a sweet reel and you can spool swap the 2020 Met with the 2022.
Most if not all of Shimano’s listed freshwater reels are shown as “Saltwater OK” on the feature set of the reels at least on their international sites. I browse Shimano’s SE Asia site as it’s in English.
I've been using the Metanium Shallow Spool for a couple of months now. I must say, it's my least favorite reel by far. Casting distance is very poor and the brakes are weak. The Daiwa Zillion or Shimano Alderbaran are much better choices. Great video! I always appreciate a different perspective.

The 2020 Met is far better then the Chronarch. If you need to cast light lures then go 2022 met.
Have you tried the Tranx 151?? They feel like the previous Met mgls

magnesium don't do well with saltwater
From what I read this reel is purposely make for skipping that’s why the just use regular ball bearings and not micro bearings
