Fun fact. 133bpm is the classic techno bpm used on many classic early 90s Detroit artists. Why? Because that’s the speed you need to cut a track to vinyl if you wish to make an endless playing lock groove loop. Accidental bonus also if you are a maniac DJ like Jeff Mills back in the day, if your records skip while mixing it won’t knock your kick drums too out of sync!
....Detroit Techno, Rotterdam Techno, Man Parrish, Steve silk Hurley, Juan Atkins and many others that have contributed to this genre...imo techno should be about bringing in new experimental sounds that takes people on a musical journey...if it's 133 BPM, change it, bring the journey to a different level... Peace out 💕
@@jonnyd4nger I like to play melodic techno at 127 bpm. It just makes it vibe more, IMO. It's a more sustainable tempo for dancing as well. A lot of purists would scoff at that, as well as say that melodic techno is basically just trance, but I don't care. It sounds good to me.
This video decided that the Syntakt was for me. And after two days of owning the Syntakt, I've completed your tutorial. Thank you so much, my version of your jam is the most polished tune I've made after coming from Circuit Tracks, Ployend Tracker and Maschine MK3. You're a natural teacher. Great work sir!
@@IhorMedia I think Syntakt could perform and generate really good spacey ambient vibes, theres lot of youtube mixes with that genre when typing in Space Ambient music. Also great youtube channel called substan who creates lot of ambient music with Elektron gear, highly recommend to check the channel out
Wow thanks so much Ihor, this is simply my favorite track from scratch for the Syntakt that I have seen. Gonna try and follow it. Please. Please do another track like this!
Thank you for such a detailed step-by-step! I'm enjoy Techno, but always have problems creating my own tracks. This was very helpful to get an easy start into a song.
Thanks to your video, I understand that i have to put a low pass filter on my bass sounds to not cover the sound of my kick ! thanks for this, and for the content ! very clear, more syntakt vids please ;) A syntakt lover
Easily the best showcase I've seen on this. I know I'm late to the party but I'm giving some serious consideration to getting one. Been using the Maschine + for a while. It's fun but I find myself taking a route that the NI sound packs take me. And it's not authentic, to me at least. You made the syntakt sound great. Fair play.
it's canon to explain so simply. she makes me want this machine so much. I strongly hesitate between a groovebox roland tr8s + microfreak or elektron digitak!
I've been waiting for that Syntakt from Scratch video quite a while. Thanks for sharing some of your production techniques! If it's not too much to ask, I'd like to have some feedback from you on my Syntakt techno jams. It would mean a lot to me.
@@IhorMedia Thank you in advance. You can find them on my channel page here on You Tube. This link is one example: ua-cam.com/video/E6qAkBUoJWs/v-deo.html
Very cool video! Learned a lot. I need to admit that my biggest problem with Techno on Syntakt was rumble, but you pointed me to a thing that is now so obvious, but I could not see it before - smart programming of kick/bass sounds. Really appreciate it! 🖤
Watched this vid again for the 3rd time or something, still as amazing as the first time, a real banger of a jam at the end. Really gotta save some cash and buy a Syntakt
You have me falling in love with how you play techno. Do you find there is so much space to explore by ourself with techno, free from the ego and the hype and only immersed in our spirit and a connection to our inner existence? I love how we can share our journey these days. I grew up in the bush in the 90's listening to AFX and only being able to dream about how it was created. Thanks very much for your insight, and inspiration.
Daaaamn I've been looking at syntakt even though I probs dont need it and this doesn't help.... How would you say it stacks up against RYTM? I've never quite gelled with rytm tbh, I have digitakt and love it, but rytm just feels so muddy to me. Syntakt seems to have a bit more of the 'sheen' of Digitakt. Been considering syntakt+digitakt as a great combo to replace rytm.
Firstly I have to admit that I use the Syntakt much more than any other machines I have, including the Rytm and the Digitakt. Even more than that - I almost exclusively use the Syntakt. I think this speaks for itself. Though there is some recency bias to this. Syntakt is very immediate and easy to deal with. Plus it is smaller, cheaper, a bit more modern I guess. However I don't want to underrate the Rytm. Firstly it is MUCH MORE deeper and complicated machine, than the Syntakt or the Digitakt. Perhaps not that immediate. Synths machines + Samples on top give much more room for sound design. Performance Macros and Scenes are there for you to create your own performing strategy. Song mode (however Syntakt also got one), analog compressor, velocity-sensitive pads, separate outputs for each voice, etc. With that said I'm sure I am not selling my Rytm ever and it has it's own permanent place my studio. I also think I'd choose it for my live shows one day, because of it's performance features. Now when it comes to the Syntakt - it is my go-to tool to jam when I get inspired. I also take it quite often with me to a park or a private party. When traveling it is a must have!
@@IhorMedia thanks so much for taking the time to reply!! Ya the form factor of syn seems so great for that. Rytm feels like I need to setup for a studio session while digits you can jam to. Thanks for your words man and keep up the awesome work

Woo! An Ihor video and a Syntakt exclusive!! Can you please punch in closer on the gear next time so we can see the graphics more clearly. It's a bit small for me
Hey Ihor, very nice session, thanks for that. 🙏🏻 I have a different musical background. I play guitar for 10 years and since one. year a little piano. I got into it because my art teacher was a student of John Cage. In her courses we often work with the operator chance to change the perspective on a thing or object. No idea why these circumstances led me to this/your video now. :) Long Storie short: I would like to make my first steps in electronic music. Would you recommend the Syntakt as my first synth? I would not classify myself as experimental. I like percussion instruments as much as big sounding pads. Can the Syntakt do that well enough for a start ( long enough). Also others feel free to give their opinion, glad to hear the feedback.
Great Video as always. I like the lfo on the ping pong delay width - i only have a digitakt but i think midi loopback should work for that - have to try that (didn't use midi loopback yet).
4:39 ouch! lol. nice lessons in here! I really wish Copying a Track to another Pattern would copy the track settings as well as the sequence data... it's clumsy having to go and copy all the pages after you've copied sequencer data
