  • Hamurrabi is the leader of Babylon in the November content drop of the New Frontier Pass! He is a science-focused leader that gains a lot of extra science from gaining eurekas, but at the cost of generating science per turn. He seems to be a decent skill-based leader, but he may be a little weak for less-experienced players.

      I think this is a replacement Slinger from what I see. When they get those boosts at 9:20, there's a Warrior and a Sabum out, the Sabum does NOT leave the city when it gets the kill, and the tech boost they got is for Archery. And because the kill unlocked Bronze Working as well, it can't be a Spearmen or Swordsman replacement.

      @@Jack_Rakan I think the boost at 9:20 is just made by a Slinger instead of a Sabum. And at 2:45 the video says "Babylon's Unique Unit is an Ancient Area Melee Unit called the Sabum Kibittum." I think the possibility is this is either a Warrior replacement or a standalone unit.

    Honestly, this is going to be a crazy strong domination civ more so than a science one I think. If you find the best tech routes where you can link eurekas together then you could jump far ahead in the tech tree by targeting specific techs from future eras. If you do that with military techs, it'd allow you to start building units that are probably 20+ combat strength above anything else on the map in the current era. It'll lead to a super easy domination game

    • @doutorhist
      @doutorhist 3 роки тому +26

      The downside of this is that the cost for producing later units scales, so, you may not have the production to build them in a reasonably time or the money to buy or upgrade them. I think that balances this ability

Iron deposit... gets you both the wheel and Iron working for swordsmen. I am planning on using this to get military units ahead of the time period for military pushes/defense when needed. I feel like most of the techs that give upgrades to military units are fairly simple to get. Use your ultramodern army to capture cities to fill out the districts you are neglecting.

    Im going on a limb and saying that Babylon for skilled players is S tier.
    I'd say I hit about 60-70% eurekas in most games just naturally. I could probably pick that up to 80-90% if I tried (who kills with a spearman!). Players like yourself or McWhiskey could get that into the 90%+ range. Thats all pure free tech.
    Then the spies. vs Deity AI theres almost always some early techs to steal. Every 4-8 turns = research per spy. PER SPY. My only concern with this would be if you catapult yourself early with a tech lead, they become just gold gen again. Or you could game the tech tree and push hard one side and steal the old ones back to bring yourself back up to par in short order.
    Babylon is a domination civ through massive tech advantage. Even their early game unit hints at it (+17 vs cav? Yes please). You're going to need to do some expert timing pushes and you can do some serious damage with a longer window than other civs.
    Yeah, Babylon is gonna be fun. Also won't work so well with tech shuffle mode. We'll want to navigate the tree perfectly to take advantage of the civ ability to maximize it.

    • @ben76326
      @ben76326 3 роки тому

      Yeah I was thinking the same thing. My guess is that they will be A or S domination civ and an A science civ (not S because late game tech for the space race might be harder to research, depending on if there is good science AI or not).
      If you target the right military eureeka's I think you could pretty easily end up with units 1-2 eras ahead of the AI. Which would allow you take over a tonne of land. Also because of their ability of getting a free building from new districts your new cities will get up and running faster.
      I think this civ will rather snowball though out the game, or get completely stomped if they aren't played right.

      So there can be a problem on producting that high advanced units on the needed mass for a domination victory. And not to forget gold, because there are also the maintnence cost that scale.
      So I don't see them as S Tier. A Tier yes, but not S Tier.

      @@drakmendoa Except you can use eurekas to boost production! It is easy. First tech is mining, then build a builder, 1 builder = 3 mines = the Wheel (eureka mine a resource) + Apprenticeship(eureka build three mines) which gives +1 production on mines and access to industrial zones.
      And this is a path to production that isn't egregious you research 1 tech, mining and then build 1 builder to get access to industrial zones and access to your unique building through the wheel. Doesn't sound like they have a production deficit but rather a production boon far faster than other civs.
      Build three workshops and poof you get +1 production on mines and reveals coal from industrialization. All you had to do was build three industrial zones and 2 workshops because you got one workshop for free and you are a very early game production superpower with very little effort on the part of the player to reach this point. What is the path here for massive production boons? research mining, build/buy a builder, construct 3 mines. build 2 settlers, build three industrial zones build 3 workshops and you are really out producing your neighbors and you aren't going that far out of your way as most of these activities to this path would would do in the course of normal play. Who wouldn't build settlers and builders and industrial zones? While you are researching mines you can build a slinger and scouts to kill barbs. so while you wait to access mining which is slow you are still gaining tech alarmingly fast. If you are close to a natural wonder you could get astrology extremely fast, writing meet another civ. So this strategy of researching mining first doesn't prohibit you from exploiting your mechanics to advance in other areas. Goodie huts could lead to full techs so exploration is even more valuable to you as it open ups multiple ways to exploit eurekas.
      While exploring kill 3 barbarians poof you find the iron resource build a mine on it poof iron working, build a watermill poof get construction own three archers poof get machinery then build one lumber mill and poof mass production. Using this and the above you now have without much effort both land and sea production. And this isn't even difficult. It will likely just happen in the course of play. Seriously who wouldn't build/buy 3 archers to automatically get crossbowmen?
      Simply building an aqueduct gives you military engineering which reveals niter and gives you access to the military engineers.
      Remember how quick i showed you how to get to mass production and you were thinking who cares naval combat sucks but 2 shipyards is the eureka for steam power which gives you railroads which your engineers can build for free. poof you are now unstoppable.
      So with little effort i showed you a civ that has production has a decent military and is now able to out maneuver any enemy because you have railroads and they have what classical roads? Not sure this civ is going to run into production bottlenecks.Who wouldn't want a ancient era industrial zone at the cost of 1 builder making three mines?

So he can produce in let's say 30 turns about 5 swordsman were you have 2 musketman at best.

It also gives you the ability to compete for a few hard-to-get wonders on deity like Great Library, Colosseum and Terracotta Army which are hard to build because of the production investment. You've basically shaved a good 10 turns off of all of those wonders so now instead of maybe focusing on getting one you might have a shot at all of them. This ability looks sick good to me.

    So here's a strat for this guy potentially. At the start of the game take mining, get an early builder and build three mines, unlock industrialisation. Use industrialisation to pump out two settlers, build two more industrial zones. Build up a campus, passively unlock a great scientist. Build two workshops, get industrialisation. Your mines are now +3 production while other players are at 1 or 2. Once you get your scientist, build your universities. Your science/turn is now OK and you have absurd scientist generation. Build your industrial zones up and you have three absurdly strong early cities and any others you've settled/will settle are stronger than they should be because of your mines.
    If you ever feel threatened 3 slingers>archers and you insta-unlock crossbows. You probably want to build walls to get aqueducts anyway and once you build an aqueduct, which you want for your industrial zone you find nitre, which you can mine with your +3 mines. You also get muskets, which make you hard as hell to fight. You should probably also have the production to build these units, since you're unlocking late game production stuff early.
    Seems like everything should kinda just click together for this guy to me.

    This is a very interesting Civ. The ability to unlock techs as soon as the Eureka's are triggered allows for some pretty crazy early game rushes. Archer Rush? As soon as you kill something with a slinger you can build archers. Build 3 of those then you get Crossbowmen. Horse rush? As soon as you build a pasture you can build horsemen. Also, remember how crazy getting industrial zones early is for Gaul? Well as soon as you build 3 mines you get apprenticeship for Babylon as well. The -50% Science/turn penalty seems harsh on paper but all this really means is that you don't need to build campuses to rush through the tech tree; all you need to do is get Eureka's. I'm very much intrigued by Babylon.

    Babylon is probably one of the most interesting, and possibly one of the most powerful civs yet. The ability to skip techs to grab other techs through eurekas makes it so you can really streamline your game into what you want. Plus you don't need to make campuses, probably at all. If you look at all the eurekas for different techs I wouldn't be surprised that you can leapfrog your way to modern techs in the medieval era.

  • @zodayn4767

    The theme of Babylon is clearly the ancient era. 1 extra production on a watermill isn't much. But at the beginning of the game it is significant. The free building in your first district is also helpfull early, especially towards getting a religion or the first great scientist. And their spearman replacement is also early game. I can imagine building a lot of spearman for early war since you don't need to get a labriary or more production since you get the libriary for free and the watermill comes with extra production.

If I happen to find a natural wonder and have my city by the coast, that is a total of 7 techs, and I am probably still researching the inital three.
    Then i get a great person, I build a campus, it has the library so i start the university, and what do you know, it is next to a mountain, so I get the fastest unthinkable Potala palace availability ever, PLUS a freaking dark age, no, plus, hear me out, cause I can use the dark age cards to boost whatever I want hahahah.

    Where the unique unit shines is in early game scouting and barb killing. You get a unit that can reliably kill any early barb unit, unlike horsemen (weak to spears). You get 3 moves, but no Horses required. You get +1 visibility without having to get multiple promotions. Except for Sumeria, the early game suffers from not having a strong unit that can scout quickly and fight off barbs at the same time. Best of all, the tech requirement is simple: "kill 3 barbs". This synergizes well with the wide turtling strategy Babylon is going to want, by giving them a unit that can quickly clear the surrounding area of barbs and goodie huts.

  • @uzernamefail
    @uzernamefail 3 роки тому

    I think the main thing Babylon plays with is timing. The obvious case is being able to start building industrial zones just by building 3 mines, the first of which comes with a free workshop. Where this gets really scary is with units: If you have enough gold, you can literally go from slingers to crossbowmen in 2-3 turns. THAT is terrifying, especially once you can reduce the cost to upgrade units with policies.

    If you hit most of the eurekas, you break even on pure research points needed to get through the tech tree. You get a slight advantage if you can get 100% of the eurekas, but that's unobtainable, and isn't even possible for the techs in the very first tier.
    But if this is quantitatively break even, qualitatively this is huge, because you can get the techs for which you have the eurekas even if you don't have any of their prerequisites and can't research them. It's a sort of wormhole into the later stages of the tech tree. Research mining, make a builder who improves three mines, and you can build an Industrial Zone before Ambiorix gets to build an Oppidum. That is nuts, or could be nuts if you do this with a strategy in mind that exploits whatever techs you can get way ahead of even Korea on Deity. An obvious strategy would involve doing exactly as above, get the ability to make Industrial Zones with your second tech in the game, spam those districts to enable you to build wonders you get to start before anyone else because you wormholed to their techs before anyone else could research them.

I could be wrong, but an early game boost to all your districts seems like strictly free resources you don't have to spend; and the returns of buildings like libraries and markets will be coming in earlier than other civs to get you some easy momentum. Early game bonuses pay off the most in the late game after all
