Steve! Man I’m so sorry to hear this. Glad you and your family are safe. Sending you good vibes and keeping my eyes out for that horn. Damn. Keep grinding my guy. ❤
Wow! So glad to hear you and your family are all safe. Unbelievable about the horn. I love my artist edition horn. It’s just awesome. John is such a great dude. I know he’s got your back! All the best to you and yours. ❤❤
Steve! So sorry to hear this story. Hearing you play live (for the first time) Monday after this happened - looking more closely at the date this was longer ago than I though when I started this comment. I had no idea based on your playing or demeanor that such a challenging thing had happened. My apartment was burgalerized years ago. Lost mark vi alto and tenor, bass clarinet, and some other stuff. The insurance allowed me to replace everything. It took a while but I love all the new horns (they are not new any more as this was 20 years ago). Glad you and the family are safe - that's all that really matters. Looking forward to hearing you play again soon.
Hey! All good its the journey of life so to speak - we can't always be lucky haha. Insurance is great and I'm so thankful that it exists. Stop by anytime it would be great to see you again :)
Oh, Steve, I’m sorry to about this, man, this is really tragic, really sad.. So good to hear that you and your family and your dog didn’t get hurt. My thoughts go out to you man.
Good afternoon to you from a brother in Georgetown Guyana South America. Thank heaven your family is safe. You have a great backup horn. However l hope you get back your sax .Merry Christmas.
Howdy Steve! Sorry to hear about the fire and the stolen horn. I'd like to pass on a bit of advice for getting the horn back: I was working landscaping, and we had one of our machines stolen. We quickly alerted the police, and they put out a notice to all of the local pawn shops so that if someone brought the machine in, the cops would be alerted. It might help you out. Good luck!
I switched to Boston sax shop reeds earlier this year and am very happy. They play great. I am so sorry to hear about the fire and stolen saxophone. Hopefully it will turn up. Maybe someone will do the right thing. Thankfully your family is safe. KORTYKA STRONG!
Aye hell yeah. When you find that setup it works like a dream :) all good man. The person that took it is actually trying to sell it to a shop and has no intentions of giving it back. I was hoping the same thing but am not so hopeful anymore…
So sorry this happened to you, but VERY happy everyone, including the dog, is safe! I feel you on the loss of the horn, but keep in mind, in the grand scheme of things, it’s only a piece of metal. It’s a beautiful piece of metal and makes great music, but what is most important is exactly what you had enough presence of mind to save. You are a good husband and father…as well as doggy dad. Sending prayers for a full recovery from this tragedy.
Hi Steve, I am glad to know that you and your family are fine. I hope you can get your sax back soon. My best Christmas wishes in this difficult circumstances.
I am very glad to hear that you and your family are safe, Steve. I am sorry to hear about your loss of the Artist Series horn. I think that karma will work in your favor soon. Happy holidays, and best wishes.
Sending good vibes there! 🙏🏼 Sorry to hear about that, but most importantly to know all were safe. The unhappy creature that stole the sax hopefully will come to senses and simply give it back…at least, one can hope…
That must have been terrifying, it's great to hear that everyone is OK ❤. I am curious to see if you will spot your horn on ebay or similar. It will probably be sold by someone who has no clue about it.
Thanks man - yeah it was not a good feeling to know you have no control of what happens to your living environment :/ It will invariably end up at a pawn shop bc any instrument shop in NYC that sees it will not buy it bc they know they cant sell a damaged instrument body with no neck or mouthpiece. It sucks that this happened but apparently they needed the sax more than i did ...
Takeaway #4 : Thank the Lord for everyday you're alive... Geeez that was scary for you, and I'm just really happy to hear you and your family are safe.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Well most importantly your family and you are alright, I hope your horn will be returned soon! Take care Steve & family.
Hi Steve, just wanted to say thank you for all the great content on your UA-cam channel, really enjoyed it! So I hope your horn is back (would be a great XMas story!), but John will undoubtedly be able to set you up with a new one 😊. Wishing you & the Kortyka family all the best for 2024!
Damn... I'm sorry for you but glad you are all safe. And for the musical instrument insurance what you meant was that the horn was locked in the car, right? :)
Your performance and educational videos have certainly done me a world of good, so it is terrible news to hear about the fire and your stolen tenor. The emotional vulnerability that you're going through with such violations is important for you to address as a person and an artist. Such attacks can't help but alter one's view of life and people, and I hope you make it though with your spirit in tact. One can only hope that, if you don't get that horn back and/or the thief is brought to justice, the tenor ends up in the hands of the next generation's Steve Kortyka. Until that time, remember that any residual anger and fear are well justified, but need to be processed with awareness for your own mental health. You will rise again!
Thanks for the kind words here. Its something that I never thought about until it happened. Its making me appreciate all that I have that much more but yes theres some resentment in there too. If found with me time heals all these things and theres always been a way to turn things like this into a positive. Appreciate your kind words here, this is what I need to hear! More on the way :)

Thanks Rob, greatly appreciated!
@@SaxophoneSteveKortyka my house/apartment never burned down, but I had 2 saxes stolen (one of them was a Mark VI).
@@robstevens9590 Ouch! did you ever see them again?
@@SaxophoneSteveKortyka Nope. Now I have a second-hand Amati, which I've had for 20 years, and I try not to leave in places where it can "disappear."
Hi Steve, I am glad to know that you and your family are fine. I hope you can get your sax back soon. My best Christmas wishes in this difficult circumstances.
Thankyou, I know. All things can be replaced 🙏
