Right, but REALLY you need like 6-9 guitars. You could have 30 amps. You could have a 6 string for standard/drop D, Eb, Drop C, B, open whatever, 7 string, 8 string, 9 string and acoustic.

@@MrMann-gt1eh Exactly, for a studio guitarists i get shit from friends for having so many guitars but there is a limit to what "feels" right. i might be able to get the sound of my 335 out of my jackson rr1, but it doesn't feel right...you have to go into that zone with the right tools.
The analogy that works for me is that the amp is like the voice and the guitar is like the accent. So different guitars through the same amp is like one person speaking in different accents. And the same guitar through different amps is like different people who all have the same accent.
the thing I love about amps (specifically not high gain, no master volumes) is that they allow each guitar I own to sound truly like itself, with the 3 amps and 3 guitars (so far) I have really 9 different sounds before I even bring out the pedals. to me the amp you choose is 90% of the equation in your sound
Only one problem with having more amps than guitars, and that is lack of space! You can't hang an amp on the wall, and if you stack too many they will fall over or break the floorboards. If you are lucky enough to have your own dedicated large space to store them then great, but most of us have to live in the real world, and here in the UK it means small houses. I have 27 guitars and 4 amps, and that is all i need, and have space for until i sell some guitars.

At 74, I've had a lot of amps. In the early days, 4 58-59 bassmans, Fender Super Reverbs. Then 2 4x10 Concerts. Then, many others. Now, a Deluxe Reverb, '82 Concert (amazing), Roland JC40, Katana Artist, Fender Blues JR., Marshall Origin 50 (very amazing). I wish I was young again!

All the tones & versatility I need, right?!?. Yeah, right?!? Damn GAS...lol. Next up...Epi SG Custom(ebony) & Fender Blues DeVille 410(90's), not reissue. I retired early at 62 and have been having a blast putting this all together. Went to see Santana 3 weeks ago.. Holy moly, what a concert!! Go see Him on this tour, You'll be blown away. COVID allowed, I'll be gigging somewhere this summer., ala Davidos... Film at 11.... Jimbo out.
First amp was a Bugera 5w tube amp. Great little amp for $189 after I changed out the tubes and speaker. I still use it all the time. I then upgraded to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe II when I started playing with a band. Awesome pedal platform and works really well for live performances. Finally, purchased a Fender '68 Princeton Reverb Reissue 2 years ago. Great flavor and tone. I dont think I will ever get rid of any of them. They each have a purpose, much like my guitars.
I now have 6 amps and they are all so amazing. Of course bought another Acoustic and so happy with it after Dan made some awesome adjustments to it and I can play it as well as the electric Fender's that I have. It's amazing to have such different tones from each.
I just switched from a noisy fender Pro Junior to an Egnater tweaker and I could not be happier with this amplifier. It's funny how a standby switch and an effects send/return are a huge bonus. Apparently now I need a magnatone, thanks guys. Always learning cool stuff on this channel.
Two Rocks sound great, but I am always astounded with how amazing Fender, Vox and Marshall amps sound after I’ve been playing my Two Rock for awhile. Hard to beat the classics…
We are so lucky today to have so many options. Being older, I downsized to a Fender Blues Deluxe and a Marshall DSL 40CR. I also have an old Digitech GSP2101 and a Pod Go9. I was running the Pod through a Fender Mustang 2-12. It was awesome. So, I stupidly sold it the amp. But the point is, we've got it made. And with pedal choices, with a decent amp, we can have pretty much any tone we want.
I think using modelers to find out what you like is really good advice. If you get something like an HX Stomp you can go down that experimentation path and later on it becomes a swiss army knife pedal for your board
Except that playing a facsimile of a sound is not the same as the physical mechanics of the amp that makes that sound. Playing an Ax-FX model of an AC30 at low volume is not the same as having to play the real thing cranked to get THAT sound. Handling that is another dimension to your craft.
Agreed. Amps have been where I'm spending frivolously since learning that it was a Fender twin that was completely overpowering my valvestate half stack that the guitar player on the other side of the wall was using. I dug into amp design and learned that his amp and mine were barely related. 65 watts absolutely destroyed 100 watts plus two extra speakers because wattage, simply put, is a power consumption rating and is at best a ballpark figure for how much volume you get from an amp. Eventually I pulled the little Kalamazoo model 1 out of storage that I inherited as my first ever amp and realized that it had some amazing tone and enough power for practice if paired with a drummer who has a little dynamic control in his playing. It's only 5 watts and a 10" speaker but doesn't start to overdrive until the volume knob is at about the last quarter turn of the dial. My parents weren't having it with me playing so loud so it was beat out by a Crate G40XL back in the early 90's when I was in my formative years and getting into the more extreme side of music. Now I run that little 5 watt, class A amp into a 12 inch speaker and hit it with a tube screamer or whatever when I need high gain sounds. The touch sensitivity and glorious overtones that come out of that thing sound like something I might have spent thousands to get but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'd urge anyone into playing any style of music to explore the world of tube amps, especially the realm of single ended, class A construction. Just make sure you bring your A game because it's like being the only naked person in a crowd that's clothed when played through with sloppy chops.
I love amps. I buy used/cheap/discounted small amps often. I have a few amps rated 10-20 W but the rest are 7W down to 1W. I have 18 electric guitars and basses, and 18 amps, although one bass amp is a head for direct to console and I have no bass cab. I paid $88 for the cheapest (Greta), and $440 for the most expensive (Fender Bassbreaker 007 Tweed FSR with a 10" Greenback.) One doesn't need to spend a lot of money to have variety, but space helps LOL. Then there's the closed V-30 1x12 and two openback Greenback 1x12s and close to 40 pedals. It's a sickness, I tells ya.
Good thinking in there guys. I have a cheap Line 6 that I use for the loops. For playing over the top of them, I go into a Vox or Egnater (which has EL84's and 6L6's)
Growing up, I could always go between my amp and my dad's amp... So I always sorta had this way of thinking. Like Baxter, I had the red-knob "The Twin" as my amp and my dad's red-knob Power Chorus. When I was on my own, I added a Dyna-Touch era Princeton Chorus to the stable. When the Twin got to be too old, fragile and heavy to move I got a Marshall Astoria Classic to take its place at gigs. Now I find myself jonesing for a Mesa and I have my dad's red-knob Super 60. Amps can be just as addictive as guitars!
I found my “one” amp!!!…. But I need the other two as well, lol!!! The other 2 though have nothing to do with different sound to be honest more different situations. I personally need more guitars. Dream guitars that shouldn’t go out. And solid axes that I won’t feel devastated to lose.
Ive owned dozens of amps. Right now im running a A/B/Y situation with a Fender Tweed Twin 57 Reissue and a Fender Super Reverb Tonemaster. The twin doesnt leave the house, the super reverb is the amp i take out to play with. id love to buy a new marshall but theres nothing in their product line that seems worth it right now.
Even some of the not so great amp sims can give you a good idea of the kinds of sounds you're looking for.Blind testing of several of these showed a consistent leaning towards Bassman's ,JTM 45's , and Twins.I learned which eq's and tube types and arrangements tended to get close to what I wanted. Egnater offers one of the more legitimately convertible amp switching options( the Tweaker can accept several tube types, as well); some arrangements are inherently more difficult to emulate due to their designs,- like the classic Vox or Orange .Hiwatt is like that as well. Don't fail to consider that the speaker and cab types can completely change the amps fundamentals.I have several speaker/ cabs ,with varied or switchable ohm ratings, to match diff heads.
My most recent favorite is a Fender Concert 112 from the Rivera era. I really like all cool sounds and features this amp has, especially with a patch cable in the effect loop.
I'm currently a one amp man. Orange Thunderverb 50. It makes truly every sound I can want to play. But it's quite versatile. It replaced a Princeton which just didn't cut it for me.
Years ago there was a circular that came out every two weeks called: “The Want Ad Press”. I saw, and responded to an ad for a Fender tweed Champ amp for $195.00. I went to the sellers house and was led into a room to where the amp was. It was in pretty good condition. I never got a chance to open my mouth. The seller became a reverse auctioneer. He rapidly dropped the price at five dollar increments and l got the amp for $165.00 without saying one word. It turned out to be a 1956 model and sounded great. I still have it, and it’s not for sale.
I have several amps and agree that each one is totally different with the tonal presentation, you can plug the same rig in from one amp to the other with totally different results but, the nice thing about multiple amps is you can stack them up or put them on shelves, you can only fit so many guitars in a certain space before stuff gets broke, so hey why not just get a bigger house so you can have more of everything solves all of the problems
You guys are enablers. I have a number of amps and lots of guitars and this last year has been amp oriented. I borrowed a blackface Princeton and have decided that I need it. I’ve already got a Twin but the Princeton is SO different. They’re all different and there are none left that I don’t like. I fear that I also need a Super Reverb. Tube based because they feel different. Yikes
Ideal is to set up a premium amp / cab switcher rig - something like KHE Audio - so you can mix and match your Fender, Marshall, VOX, Magnatone, Two Rock, Laney, HiWatt, Orange etc. Need to get plenty of speaker cables however!
Ive been playing since the mid 70s. Guitars may come and go but the amps remain. Silverface Bassman, Peavey Artist 240, Crate Vintage Club, Carr Rambler, Micro Terror, Crush 35, Micro Cube, AC60, they all do a thing... cant get rid of em. Right now Im jonesing for a Winfield Cyclone or AC15 w/blue. But then Ive never owned a Marshall or a Boogie.....decisions decisions.
I totally get where y’all are coming from, but I also think having 1 amp with multiple guitars is just as good. I have a ‘59 Bassman and you can get SO MANY different tones out of it! Absolutely the perfect amp! Everything sounds great through it. That being said, I do love my ‘55 Tremolux and my ‘65 Vibrolux Reverb. I do need a 100 watt plexi too.
Can't say enough good things about The Boss ME - 80. That's a fantastic way to try out effects. Way more cost-effective than a helix . One of my bandmates has been using his since 2015 and he's kicked several times with it. All for less than 400 bucks.
Brilliant tough unit. Cheap as chips for what you get. Ok not as good as a stocked pedalboard but I can't stick a few batteries in my pedalboard and throw it in my gig bag. And who in the audience is gonna know anyway. Couple of years back Tim Pierce did a vlog of the Grammies and the other guitarist a mate of Tim's had an ME-80. That's a pretty good endorsement. I'll see if I can track that down.
The Fender Mustang amps are great if you change styles with whatever is next on your UA-cam Music auto play. I have an LT25 at home, and in the semi, I play my Gretsch 2627t on the Mini through the truck radio. It's much more enjoyable to play when you actually spend time playing, not setting up.
I have two Tube amps.... one with EL 34's (closed back 1X12) & one with 6L6's (open back 4X10) that do me fine. I do also have a basic solid state "practice amp" with a little in the way of modeling and effects built in. I do record using many different amp sims, but don't feel the need to add those amp styles to my collecting as physical amps. I can get the sounds that inspire me more using different guitars to be honest....besides pedals! 😉 I just completed (that might be the wrong word...) my improved pedalboard that covers so much sonic ground... it's making me smile! Plus those two tube amps both have 2 channels.... with BOOSTS!!!!!! Baby, I've got tons of tones! LOL! Guitars.... hardtail superstrat, custom T-style, 12 string, baritone, ultra low baritone, s-style, PRS 24 fret w/trem style, SE Paul's guitar, bass, superstrat w/trem, semi-hollow, small bodied hollow body & an L.P. style. Lots of inspiration here as well!
I use three Fender Deluxe amps and a Tweed Bassman in stereo. Any one of the Deluxe(Tweed, Brown and Black) is great by itself, or paired up, but something magical happens when all three are on together.
I need some advice... Have a mesa Fillmore 25 and two Strats......I am really wanting a Princeton or a deluxe reverb. I play the occasional small bar gig, worship and studio use for home. I have a captor x. Which one???
As guitar players we are always chasing tone and sound most our life. With all this affordable modeling, tone matching, and profiling available we can now chase the monster at a better price point.
I love all the amps I've ever owned, even carrying around a 4x10 DeVille - ouch!! Now I have one amp, a FDRTM - which kills it btw. For the time being, a few pedals will have to do the rest :)
4 amps in squad! 70’s SVT/ BT-35 cab-78 JMP head/71 cab-79 Deluxe Reverb and latest a 93 UK Vox AC-30! Versatile crew of 6 electrics and a future pedalboard build will square off my needs…….for now!😂😂😂

I have a question of what you think would be the wiser choice.I have 3 Peavy Classic VTX 2x12s from 80s-90s which I picked up cheaply and they work good except one which I know they all need service 1 maybe speakers.Spend the $$ on a new amp with hopefully no issues with all new components?Just a " crap shoot"What brought this question up I was seriously looking at the new Joe Bonamassa 59 2x12 tweed Fender.There sold out and were a little pricey but it just got the wheels turning.Thanks if you give your opinion and thanks for your channel!
When I was a wee lad, I had my shitty old Firebrand and my little Peavey Rage 158. When I got a bit older, I had a half dozen guitars and just my Vox Valvetronix. Now, I'm older and happy where I'm at. A bunch of Les Pauls, a Strat, a V, and a SG with a Classic 30 and a AC10. Ampwise, the only thing I'm jonesing for is a JC120.
I only(only) have six amps ATM and keep three of them out in the house for ready use. Those being a Tweed Champ, a Vibro-Champ and a Princeton non-reverb. Of all the amps I've owned over the years the one I keep thinking about and keep kicking myself in the ass for letting it go is the '64 Princeton Reverb. It was such a beautiful sounding amp, and the reverb was like swimming in the ocean. I have never heard anything like it in any other Fender amp. But I needed to leave the state before my girlfriend got out of jail, so there's that cold comfort.
With 2 "Amps" I pretty much can have several amps. Fender Mustang III v2 (100 W, 12 inch sp.), Katana II 100w. Several Voicings with several pedals. Can play at low volumes, if you so desire. Cheers.
I have a small room for a studio. Not much room for amps... though I do have an Iridium that fits the bill for low-volume, apartment living. Lottery dreams of having a backline of amazing amps still exist...
Strongly agree. I have four electric guitars, I've had more in the past but I can do everything I want to with a tele, LP, 335, and Firebird (mostly for slide). Amps however...I've got three but like 4-8 on the wish list. I might upgrade guitars in the future but amps, just moar.

I have three fender amps… all sound and do different things. My two favorite combos…. my fender vibroluxe and a telecaster. And my deluxe with my strat
I had a Fender Mustang GTX for the past year and it helped me figure out what tones and effects I liked. Like I never used flanger, chorus, or fuzz those effects. I recently sold it and got a Quilter since I just used a couple Fender presets. And I’ve built a small quality pedal board with Keeley and JHS peddles. Really happy with my set up now.
@@csnide6702 I do sometimes play straight into the amp, but it is nice to have levels of gain stage, delay, tremolo…depending on the sound you are going for. For instance I love Rockabilly and that sound is heavily reliant on slap back delay which is not a feature on the amp. I have a JHS Milkman pedal which is wonderful for that and has a sweet boost side too.
@@portsideguitar1981 I use a modeling amp with 4 presets then run that signal to a 100watt combo amp(set clean as possible)with 2x12, thru the effects loop then have a 4x 10 cabinet set on other side of stage to spread and make sound fuller. Why I say ditch pedals is because they change in sound constantly with battery levels-- with the modeler I get the same digital sound every time- less cords to add signal buzz.... just less screwing with pedals - very liberating.
Guitars are sexy, amps are more pragmatic. When another player sees you playing they will sum up your wannabe image from your choice of guitar/s in two seconds. But they will check out your amp, it’s settings, anything unusual about it (I’ve had guys looking in the back of my amp while I was playing), and ask you about it after the gig because that’s where your sound really resides.
The only electrics guitars I have at the moment are a custom shop strat and a custom shop 335 and I was buying various amps until I landed a Bloomfield drive….now I’m selling most of my amps. The BD is that good to me.
I’m a fan of multiples of everything or maybe I just hate my money. I’m currently exploring the Synergy module system and running that into the power section of my Mesa amps. That has been very cool so far coupled with my UA OX for recording. I don’t tend to reach for the AX FX3 as much as I used to but I haven’t yet given up on its usefulness.
I have one amp and guitar for electric and harps (50s Road Worn Tele and Fender Excelsior), but I've really been wanting a Princeton Reverb and either a Champ or Pro Jr. I've got two basses and 3 bass amps. (CS 5 P and AVRI 57 P with 83 Bassman Ten, the Modern Bassman 100T and Super Bassman) I'm always on the hunt for more ultra linear output Silverface Bassman amps, though. Trying to find a Bassman 135 and 70 in good condition now. Wouldn't mind a Studio Bass, too. Lots of great silverface hidden gems for guitar and bass out there still.
i have a princeton reverb and a juketone champ i run them together and thats heaven for me, if you want a champ on budget - juketone is a great alternative its a chinese handwired amp sold in the uk - same components aside from 1 tube wich is the chinese alternative - they are like 1/4 of the price of a "real" champ.
So, I recently got out of the guitar game and into the amp side of things. What’s happening now? My back hurts constantly and keeps going out! All the heavy gear, bending over to make changes, etc. I’m literally on bed rest from my back going out in my studio just yesterday! BTW…I have 5 electric guitars after having quite the collection and downsizing thanks to 5 watt world. And now 10 amps I can count off the top of my head. I’ve got a bit of a problem!!! 😂 😊

They both need each other. Amps & Guitars, but I always got a bigger high out of getting a new Amp. I think I like Amps more than Guitars.
I now have 6 amps and they are all so amazing. Of course bought another Acoustic and so happy with it after Dan made some awesome adjustments to it and I can play it as well as the electric Fender's that I have. It's amazing to have such different tones from each.
I just switched from a noisy fender Pro Junior to an Egnater tweaker and I could not be happier with this amplifier. It's funny how a standby switch and an effects send/return are a huge bonus. Apparently now I need a magnatone, thanks guys. Always learning cool stuff on this channel.
That is an advantage to modeling amps.... and yes, I too play differently and different songs depending on the amp and effects choices.
Two Rocks sound great, but I am always astounded with how amazing Fender, Vox and Marshall amps sound after I’ve been playing my Two Rock for awhile. Hard to beat the classics…
We are so lucky today to have so many options. Being older, I downsized to a Fender Blues Deluxe and a Marshall DSL 40CR. I also have an old Digitech GSP2101 and a Pod Go9. I was running the Pod through a Fender Mustang 2-12. It was awesome. So, I stupidly sold it the amp. But the point is, we've got it made. And with pedal choices, with a decent amp, we can have pretty much any tone we want.
I think using modelers to find out what you like is really good advice. If you get something like an HX Stomp you can go down that experimentation path and later on it becomes a swiss army knife pedal for your board

Except that playing a facsimile of a sound is not the same as the physical mechanics of the amp that makes that sound. Playing an Ax-FX model of an AC30 at low volume is not the same as having to play the real thing cranked to get THAT sound. Handling that is another dimension to your craft.
The problem is when you learn on your hx stomp your favorite clean sound in the world is a matchless...

Agreed. Amps have been where I'm spending frivolously since learning that it was a Fender twin that was completely overpowering my valvestate half stack that the guitar player on the other side of the wall was using. I dug into amp design and learned that his amp and mine were barely related. 65 watts absolutely destroyed 100 watts plus two extra speakers because wattage, simply put, is a power consumption rating and is at best a ballpark figure for how much volume you get from an amp. Eventually I pulled the little Kalamazoo model 1 out of storage that I inherited as my first ever amp and realized that it had some amazing tone and enough power for practice if paired with a drummer who has a little dynamic control in his playing. It's only 5 watts and a 10" speaker but doesn't start to overdrive until the volume knob is at about the last quarter turn of the dial. My parents weren't having it with me playing so loud so it was beat out by a Crate G40XL back in the early 90's when I was in my formative years and getting into the more extreme side of music. Now I run that little 5 watt, class A amp into a 12 inch speaker and hit it with a tube screamer or whatever when I need high gain sounds. The touch sensitivity and glorious overtones that come out of that thing sound like something I might have spent thousands to get but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'd urge anyone into playing any style of music to explore the world of tube amps, especially the realm of single ended, class A construction. Just make sure you bring your A game because it's like being the only naked person in a crowd that's clothed when played through with sloppy chops.
I love amps. I buy used/cheap/discounted small amps often. I have a few amps rated 10-20 W but the rest are 7W down to 1W. I have 18 electric guitars and basses, and 18 amps, although one bass amp is a head for direct to console and I have no bass cab. I paid $88 for the cheapest (Greta), and $440 for the most expensive (Fender Bassbreaker 007 Tweed FSR with a 10" Greenback.)
One doesn't need to spend a lot of money to have variety, but space helps LOL.
Then there's the closed V-30 1x12 and two openback Greenback 1x12s and close to 40 pedals.

Good thinking in there guys. I have a cheap Line 6 that I use for the loops. For playing over the top of them, I go into a Vox or Egnater (which has EL84's and 6L6's)
Growing up, I could always go between my amp and my dad's amp... So I always sorta had this way of thinking.
Like Baxter, I had the red-knob "The Twin" as my amp and my dad's red-knob Power Chorus. When I was on my own, I added a Dyna-Touch era Princeton Chorus to the stable. When the Twin got to be too old, fragile and heavy to move I got a Marshall Astoria Classic to take its place at gigs. Now I find myself jonesing for a Mesa and I have my dad's red-knob Super 60.
Amps can be just as addictive as guitars!

I found my “one” amp!!!…. But I need the other two as well, lol!!! The other 2 though have nothing to do with different sound to be honest more different situations. I personally need more guitars. Dream guitars that shouldn’t go out. And solid axes that I won’t feel devastated to lose.
Ive owned dozens of amps. Right now im running a A/B/Y situation with a Fender Tweed Twin 57 Reissue and a Fender Super Reverb Tonemaster. The twin doesnt leave the house, the super reverb is the amp i take out to play with.
id love to buy a new marshall but theres nothing in their product line that seems worth it right now.
Even some of the not so great amp sims can give you a good idea of the kinds of sounds you're looking for.Blind testing of several of these showed a consistent leaning towards Bassman's ,JTM 45's , and Twins.I learned which eq's and tube types and arrangements tended to get close to what I wanted.
Egnater offers one of the more legitimately convertible amp switching options( the Tweaker can accept several tube types, as well); some arrangements are inherently more difficult to emulate due to their designs,- like the classic Vox or Orange .Hiwatt is like that as well.
Don't fail to consider that the speaker and cab types can completely change the amps fundamentals.I have several speaker/ cabs ,with varied or switchable ohm ratings, to match diff heads.
My most recent favorite is a Fender Concert 112 from the Rivera era. I really like all cool sounds and features this amp has, especially with a patch cable in the effect loop.

I'm currently a one amp man. Orange Thunderverb 50. It makes truly every sound I can want to play. But it's quite versatile. It replaced a Princeton which just didn't cut it for me.

Years ago there was a circular that came out every two weeks called: “The Want Ad Press”. I saw, and responded to an ad for a Fender tweed Champ amp for $195.00. I went to the sellers house and was led into a room to where the amp was. It was in pretty good condition. I never got a chance to open my mouth. The seller became a reverse auctioneer. He rapidly dropped the price at five dollar increments and l got the amp for $165.00 without saying one word. It turned out to be a 1956 model and sounded great. I still have it, and it’s not for sale.
I have several amps and agree that each one is totally different with the tonal presentation, you can plug the same rig in from one amp to the other with totally different results but, the nice thing about multiple amps is you can stack them up or put them on shelves, you can only fit so many guitars in a certain space before stuff gets broke, so hey why not just get a bigger house so you can have more of everything solves all of the problems
I agree with your logic, but I disagree on the guitar requirements. A p90 guitar is a must in my book.
You guys are enablers. I have a number of amps and lots of guitars and this last year has been amp oriented. I borrowed a blackface Princeton and have decided that I need it. I’ve already got a Twin but the Princeton is SO different. They’re all different and there are none left that I don’t like. I fear that I also need a Super Reverb. Tube based because they feel different. Yikes

Ideal is to set up a premium amp / cab switcher rig - something like KHE Audio - so you can mix and match your Fender, Marshall, VOX, Magnatone, Two Rock, Laney, HiWatt, Orange etc. Need to get plenty of speaker cables however!
Ive been playing since the mid 70s. Guitars may come and go but the amps remain. Silverface Bassman, Peavey Artist 240, Crate Vintage Club, Carr Rambler, Micro Terror, Crush 35, Micro Cube, AC60, they all do a thing... cant get rid of em. Right now Im jonesing for a Winfield Cyclone or AC15 w/blue. But then Ive never owned a Marshall or a Boogie.....decisions decisions.
I totally get where y’all are coming from, but I also think having 1 amp with multiple guitars is just as good. I have a ‘59 Bassman and you can get SO MANY different tones out of it! Absolutely the perfect amp! Everything sounds great through it. That being said, I do love my ‘55 Tremolux and my ‘65 Vibrolux Reverb. I do need a 100 watt plexi too.
Can't say enough good things about The Boss ME - 80. That's a fantastic way to try out effects. Way more cost-effective than a helix . One of my bandmates has been using his since 2015 and he's kicked several times with it. All for less than 400 bucks.
Brilliant tough unit. Cheap as chips for what you get. Ok not as good as a stocked pedalboard but I can't stick a few batteries in my pedalboard and throw it in my gig bag. And who in the audience is gonna know anyway. Couple of years back Tim Pierce did a vlog of the Grammies and the other guitarist a mate of Tim's had an ME-80. That's a pretty good endorsement. I'll see if I can track that down.

The Fender Mustang amps are great if you change styles with whatever is next on your UA-cam Music auto play. I have an LT25 at home, and in the semi, I play my Gretsch 2627t on the Mini through the truck radio. It's much more enjoyable to play when you actually spend time playing, not setting up.
I have two Tube amps.... one with EL 34's (closed back 1X12) & one with 6L6's (open back 4X10) that do me fine. I do also have a basic solid state "practice amp" with a little in the way of modeling and effects built in. I do record using many different amp sims, but don't feel the need to add those amp styles to my collecting as physical amps. I can get the sounds that inspire me more using different guitars to be honest....besides pedals! 😉 I just completed (that might be the wrong word...) my improved pedalboard that covers so much sonic ground... it's making me smile! Plus those two tube amps both have 2 channels.... with BOOSTS!!!!!! Baby, I've got tons of tones! LOL! Guitars.... hardtail superstrat, custom T-style, 12 string, baritone, ultra low baritone, s-style, PRS 24 fret w/trem style, SE Paul's guitar, bass, superstrat w/trem, semi-hollow, small bodied hollow body & an L.P. style. Lots of inspiration here as well!
I use three Fender Deluxe amps and a Tweed Bassman in stereo.
Any one of the Deluxe(Tweed, Brown and Black) is great by itself, or paired up, but something magical happens when all three are on together.
I only need ONE kind of Amp. A Magnatone Panaramic Stereo! Oh, but I do need like 9 of them!!!

At the peak of my collecting mania I owned 85 guitar amps. Now down to around 25. That amount feels about right.
As guitar players we are always chasing tone and sound most our life. With all this affordable modeling, tone matching, and profiling available we can now chase the monster at a better price point.
I love all the amps I've ever owned, even carrying around a 4x10 DeVille - ouch!! Now I have one amp, a FDRTM - which kills it btw. For the time being, a few pedals will have to do the rest :)

When I was a wee lad, I had my shitty old Firebrand and my little Peavey Rage 158.
When I got a bit older, I had a half dozen guitars and just my Vox Valvetronix.
Now, I'm older and happy where I'm at. A bunch of Les Pauls, a Strat, a V, and a SG with a Classic 30 and a AC10. Ampwise, the only thing I'm jonesing for is a JC120.
I only(only) have six amps ATM and keep three of them out in the house for ready use. Those being a Tweed Champ, a Vibro-Champ and a Princeton non-reverb. Of all the amps I've owned over the years the one I keep thinking about and keep kicking myself in the ass for letting it go is the '64 Princeton Reverb. It was such a beautiful sounding amp, and the reverb was like swimming in the ocean. I have never heard anything like it in any other Fender amp. But I needed to leave the state before my girlfriend got out of jail, so there's that cold comfort.
With 2 "Amps" I pretty much can have several amps. Fender Mustang III v2 (100 W, 12 inch sp.), Katana II 100w. Several Voicings with several pedals. Can play at low volumes, if you so desire. Cheers.
I have a small room for a studio. Not much room for amps... though I do have an Iridium that fits the bill for low-volume, apartment living.

Strongly agree. I have four electric guitars, I've had more in the past but I can do everything I want to with a tele, LP, 335, and Firebird (mostly for slide). Amps however...I've got three but like 4-8 on the wish list. I might upgrade guitars in the future but amps, just moar.

I had a Fender Mustang GTX for the past year and it helped me figure out what tones and effects I liked. Like I never used flanger, chorus, or fuzz those effects. I recently sold it and got a Quilter since I just used a couple Fender presets. And I’ve built a small quality pedal board with Keeley and JHS peddles. Really happy with my set up now.

@@csnide6702 I do sometimes play straight into the amp, but it is nice to have levels of gain stage, delay, tremolo…depending on the sound you are going for.
For instance I love Rockabilly and that sound is heavily reliant on slap back delay which is not a feature on the amp. I have a JHS Milkman pedal which is wonderful for that and has a sweet boost side too.
@@portsideguitar1981 I use a modeling amp with 4 presets then run that signal to a 100watt combo amp(set clean as possible)with 2x12, thru the effects loop then have a 4x 10 cabinet set on other side of stage to spread and make sound fuller. Why I say ditch pedals is because they change in sound constantly with battery levels-- with the modeler I get the same digital sound every time- less cords to add signal buzz.... just less screwing with pedals - very liberating.
VOX Top Boost is my favorite sound in all of ampdom!

Guitars are sexy, amps are more pragmatic. When another player sees you playing they will sum up your wannabe image from your choice of guitar/s in two seconds. But they will check out your amp, it’s settings, anything unusual about it (I’ve had guys looking in the back of my amp while I was playing), and ask you about it after the gig because that’s where your sound really resides.
The only electrics guitars I have at the moment are a custom shop strat and a custom shop 335 and I was buying various amps until I landed a Bloomfield drive….now I’m selling most of my amps. The BD is that good to me.

I feel under privileged because I play acoustics with a Fishman Loudbox, and that only the last 5 years out of 50. But you folks are entertaining.
I’m a fan of multiples of everything or maybe I just hate my money. I’m currently exploring the Synergy module system and running that into the power section of my Mesa amps. That has been very cool so far coupled with my UA OX for recording. I don’t tend to reach for the AX FX3 as much as I used to but I haven’t yet given up on its usefulness.

I have one amp and guitar for electric and harps (50s Road Worn Tele and Fender Excelsior), but I've really been wanting a Princeton Reverb and either a Champ or Pro Jr. I've got two basses and 3 bass amps. (CS 5 P and AVRI 57 P with 83 Bassman Ten, the Modern Bassman 100T and Super Bassman) I'm always on the hunt for more ultra linear output Silverface Bassman amps, though. Trying to find a Bassman 135 and 70 in good condition now. Wouldn't mind a Studio Bass, too. Lots of great silverface hidden gems for guitar and bass out there still.
i have a princeton reverb and a juketone champ i run them together and thats heaven for me, if you want a champ on budget - juketone is a great alternative its a chinese handwired amp sold in the uk - same components aside from 1 tube wich is the chinese alternative - they are like 1/4 of the price of a "real" champ.

So, I recently got out of the guitar game and into the amp side of things. What’s happening now? My back hurts constantly and keeps going out! All the heavy gear, bending over to make changes, etc. I’m literally on bed rest from my back going out in my studio just yesterday! BTW…I have 5 electric guitars after having quite the collection and downsizing thanks to 5 watt world. And now 10 amps I can count off the top of my head. I’ve got a bit of a problem!!! 😂 😊
