"I'm sorry, is there a BETTER time to get mugged?" - This... this line was golden.. why did it have to have such a crappy delivery and followed up with crap?
Yeah, this is where the show being intended for CN really hits hard, because they're totally doing the thing where they throw out a bunch of jokes really quickly just to make sure one hits. It makes sense for them to keep bantering, but it could have been better. People are definitely acting crazy and overblowing this, though. It's honestly fine, it just needed another pass in scripting to iron that scene out a bit better after the initial gag.
@@dethhollow Isn't that the problem though? It DIDN'T get "another pass" for anything. Scripting, concept, story, writing, pretty much everything about this show needed "another pass", but it didn't. The creators thought "this is good enough, people will love this!" And released it as it is now. Either the editors and critique viewers have really brown noses, or they didn't have any. And it shows in the FINAL produce that was released. I'm not giving them a pass because"it could of been better if they had changed it." We got what we got, and we're calling it out for what it is. That's why I don't like a lot of anime made in the past few years, because a lot of it seems to be trying to imitate the tropes in Western media, the guy gets the girl, and the girls main point of existence is to be a sexual love interest to him, rather than the anime we grew up with, where the female side protagonists were no more created solely for the man and male protagonist and the rest of the male side characters, 90s anime is some of the most freaking progressive anime I've ever seen, and you can't change my mind
“Yeah keep walking” is probably one of the weakest lines you can deliver. Not only is it cliched as fuck but in any actual situation that line results in the taunted promptly turning around. It is a middle school tough guy line at best.

I can't write down a conversation in a story without audibly acting out each side in my room, editing accordingly and then timidly showing it to someone else to see if it sucks. Those lines are fine you don't need to psychoanalyze the logic of the lines. Obviously the line asking about them being mugged was just for being surprised like as if to say "seriously *dead eyed look or some other type of reaction*". Saying "I'm sorry, is there a better time to get mugged?" this line shows of some of their personality, they don't have to take it at face value, they do this line to try to throw it back at them. These lines work for the first 0:07 seconds, ya they could definitely be said by different characters to better suit the audio. After the 0:07 it sorta just falls apart and suddenly says "my hero" for no particular reason and sound very off from the sound of the character was talking in before.
I like it how Rosemary is portrayed as a drugged out psychopath. She makes light of almost killing someone, seemingly not understanding why that might be an issue. Then proceeds to talk about how she was sure she was gonna have to finish the job. This recontextualizes the entire interaction from 0:02 to 0:07 Rosemary is actively looking for a fight here. She wants that bitch dead, and I'm wondering what provoked this if anything.
The line “I was sure I was gona have to fight her to defend your honor” sounds cute and funny if it want said by a literal warrior in a fantasy setting. This bitch unhinged
Wtf is this. It feels like someone was trying to write a scene but gave up half way through and just stuck a bunch of cliches they saw from movies and tv shows haphazardly. There's no rhyme or reason or logical through line to any of it. I can't tell if they were as high as a kite when they wrote this or had never actually gone outside and talked to another breathing person.
Considering the people behind this show, I’m willing to place my money on the “never actually gone outside and talked to another breathing person” answer. Their writing room is basically a bunch of rejected diversity hires.
Rwby vibes. Like the writers want certain things to be said or happen but they skip beats that would justify most of those things that they want to happen. Like watching the first 3 minutes of a show then skipping forward 20 minutes to watch the last 5 before the episodes end
1 star is still a bit too generous of you ask me considering how not a single element of this show works, although I get it probably isn't possible to rate it any lower.

[...] That's right, keep walking [...] Jeesh, you almost cut a head off one time and it's like idk [...] I was sure I would had to fight her to defend your honor" "My hero" Those are 3 different conversation happening at the same time and within one character, did she had a conversation in her head and then the staff forgot to exteriorize those lines? Or is this like Dora the explorer and we are supposed to answer?
The first 5 seconds would've worked in any other show, I feel like this scene breaks apart real fast right after tho... like they just kinda gave up lmao
The "Is there a better time to get mug?" Line was actually funny but the rest ruined it. It's like when I saw the reboot Ghostbuster and there were a bunch of GOOD lines but ruined by either the following line or how it was used.
@@lynliee to me, the joke was something that works because it's very sarcastic and unexpected. When she chooses to say keep walking awkwardly, it ruins the coolness of the moment.
@@lynliee For English, what makes a scene funny is not only how the characters are presented with their expressions but the timing and even follow up lines. If a character says something that is meant to be perceived as funny, sometimes writer would give a pause afterwards or even a scene change. It’s like their arms don’t work, there is no weight in the steps their steps are fast but short, like they have to go to the bathroom or something and the pink girl is just distancing a lot from the other like she wants to scape her
The fact that they couldn't even have the decency to have basic continuity in the blue haired one holding the pink haired one's arm as they walked away is the most egregious thing, like it's not even complicated to do that
@@HExtraordinaire The scene transition is "She's behind pink" to "They're next to ecah other" and the difference is about 2 frames, just saying it breaks immersion when there's no implication of time between the two scenes and they're just suddenly in different positions I mean it's impossible to get immersed in High Guardian Spice but still, something like this isn't even hard to do and helps make things seem consistent.
“That’s right, keep walkin!” is such a terrible line and honestly the context and delivery make it even worse Also I feel like they shoulda retook the one good line, “I’m sorry, is there a better time to be mugged?” Cuz it went: Im SORRY, is there a BETTER TIME to be mugged?! Which feels choppy and awkward, when they could’ve said: I’M sorry, was (as opposed to is) there a BETTER time to be mugged?! Because it emphasizes that they’re the ones that’re sarcastically sorry that they were the one mugged, as opposed to them being actually sorry, because when characters say “I’m S O R R Y, ok?!” They’re usually being sincere, but were too proud to originally admit it until said moment. It also has this fun undertone of “Oh, I’M SOOOOO SORRY, that I got STRAIGHT MUGGED. Was there a better time, or am I stupid?”, and It’s sassy and free and fun and poked at the red headed girl’s surprise.
I prefer 'is' as it seems like they will get mugged again in the future, almost as if its a normal thing that happens. That line is fantastic, its just ruined by the rest of the scene. And the rest of the show too.
to be completely honest even if the line itself sounds awkward it feels a little bit realistic (at least in my case) because she almost sounds like she doesn't know what she's gonna say and so her tone sounds kinda forced to keep herself from stuttering I guess? idk I'm trying to see it in a different perspective

Actual adult humans wrote and voiced this. Seriously, I say an investigation needs to be made into Crunchyroll because I am not convinced any of the money they took that was SUPPOSED to go to the anime industry to support those actually making anime as well as provide more for the streaming service, actually went into this project. It's just too poorly done. I mean, amateurish doesn't cut it even. I'm betting that they lined their pockets with the subscriber fees, and then to try and cover it up they said "We used it to fund our own 'original' 'anime' show." I'm not joking, I want a full audit. Show us exactly where the money went, how much went where, etc. Cause given how bad the sound editing is, the use of copy pasted png images, shitty dialogue, mediocre animation and awful performances (not to mention a story that's basically just RWBY crossed with Little Witch Academia with the style of Steven Universe), I find it hard to believe that it was simply a matter of incompetence. Especially since this was supposed to be ready back in like 2019 but only coming out now? They didn't bother to fix the issues? Really?
You can actually request companies have a federal audit performed if they don't already have one available. Most big companies are smart enough to do them anyways just to avoid controversy, but I doubt Crunchyroll is one of them.

it feels like huge chucks of dialouge were cut inbetween each sentence and horribly pasted together to form an incoherent conversation about subjects and conflict that weren't actually brought up in the conversation. seriously in all my years of watching reviews of bad movies and tv shows they at the very least were capable of forming full conversations that made little bit of sense. This is how a computer talks, it can't understand the full meaning behind every phrase and reacts the wrong way, you cannot pursuade me that not what the writers did.
@@menaatefadly That one wasn't really written by A.I. but by Keaton Patti himself trying to mimick how an A.I. talks. Even GPT-J isn't capable yet of full coherency with distinguishing of characters like in the A.I. Batman script although it gets closer, ironically I have a few A.I. generated scenes on my channel which I animated but it simply doesn't make sense at all if you try to animate that stuff, you don't even know what and how to animate what the A.I. generates.
The awkwardness of the conversations make me think two things are happening: -Dialogues made funny for the sake of being funny, no matter how out of place they may be. -Perhaps the actual animation was designed to accommodate a different language. Just seen the first episode, and... I can't exactly grasp what's exactly causing the cringe I get from it. Maybe it's a bit of everything.
This screams "first draft" to me. The mugging line was actually hilarious. Could have made for a funny sequence if more thought was put into the lines that came after it.
The pink girl's voice quality sounds really bitcrushed. Particularly when she says "I'm ssORRY" there's a weird static present that isn't there with either of the other characters. It's like she used a cheap microphone. Could be just my ears playing tricks on me, but I'm not sure. Animation is also pretty iffy. I respect them for not going the flash puppet route that most modern cartoons do, but there's just something off about how the characters are animated. Worst offender is the walking sequence at 0:13. They have no upper body movement whatsoever, it makes it look like a walk cycle ripped straight out of early Peanuts cartoons. Top it off with them being separated in the following shot and having a walk cycle twice as fast, it makes it all look really awkwardly paced. Backgrounds are pretty bad, particularly the one at 0:13 again. The other backgrounds are okay, but the one in that shot looks unfinished. The floor pattern looks good, but the walls look like they weren't given a proper rendering pass. The archway has no depth to it, looking like a cardboard cutout, and the shadow going into the tunnel doesn't match the shape of said archway at all - the arch has a bumpy frame, but the shadow implies it's meant to be a smooth frame. Also, if you look at the very start of the shot, the two characters are suddenly giants because they are now the same height as the archway on the right that a previous shot implied was almost twice their height. It's a shame really. I'm not against Crunchyroll making original shows, but the fact that they had all the money and resources to make something cool and they give us this is just insulting.
@@ItsStridinTime, Speaking of UA-cam and animations, nice examples would include Viziepop's "Helluva Boss" and whatever Terminal Montage produces (dunno what to call speed demon Mario and exorcist Luigi, you see).

Nevermind the dialogue, wtf is the scene consistency? Let me break it down: Brown hair is standing in front of blue hair and pink hair. Blue hair is standing in front of pink hair. Okay. Next scene from brown hair's POV shows blue hair in front of pink hair. Okay, so far so good. Brown hair then walks past the two and from what I can see, they simply turn around to watch her go. Blue hair, now standing behind pink hair, doesn't move forward. Keep this in mind. We see brown hair walk off down a passageway while watching from pink hair's POV, then switch back to looking at the two from the front. Right, *now* it seems blue hair has shifted to standing beside pink hair, if slightly back. Alright, maybe she walked up beside pink hair while we were watching brown hair leave, but then pink hair goes to walk off to the left and the way blue hair follows makes it seem like she was standing at her side. I would also like you to take note of the fact the way pink hair's model is laid over blue hair's. If you were standing in the same position blue hair was, this would make it so you would maybe be slightly off to punk hair's right, possibly right behind her. Yet in the next scene as we watch them walking off, blue hair is suddenly partially overlaid over pink hair's model, so *now* it seems as if she is on pink hair's left, while the way her legs go behind pink hair's skirt give the impression she's slightly behind her despite the position of her head making it seem like she's positioned right beside her. Now the most egregious example: we just had pink and blue hair walking off in a line, blue hair holding pink hair's arms. *Immediately after* they are now either side of the alleyway, maybe a foot or two apart from each other. What makes it such an annoying switch up for me is that the advancement of the dialogue implies this was immediately after the "defend your honour" line, so I can only assume they instantly teleported into these new positions. Good lord, I'm not asking for early season Game of Thrones levels of lore abiding, but I would have thought a bit of consistency across scenes over a few seconds wouldn't have been *THAT* hard to accomplish
outside of that crazy bad perspective on 0:15, this is pretty standard stuff for a cartoon. they get away with shit like this all the time, even the actually good ones
that's it, the mere fact that you have to watch this """show""" for more than five minutes and then edit them just for us deserves a sub (sorry I'm not very good writting in english yet)
“Hold on. You got mugged on your first day?” “I’m _sorry,_ is there a better time to get mugged?” Hey, that’s not so bad. “That’s right, keep walking!” “Sheesh, you almost chop off a person’s head one time, it’s like, mrr…” …Oh.

“That’s right, keep walkin!” is such a terrible line and honestly the context and delivery make it even worse
Also I feel like they shoulda retook the one good line, “I’m sorry, is there a better time to be mugged?”
Cuz it went:
Im SORRY, is there a BETTER TIME to be mugged?!
Which feels choppy and awkward, when they could’ve said:
I’M sorry, was (as opposed to is) there a BETTER time to be mugged?!
"one portion of line analysis coming right up"

That bored looking elf did the right thing, just walk away from those two and don't ever talk to them again.
it feels like huge chucks of dialouge were cut inbetween each sentence and horribly pasted together to form an incoherent conversation about subjects and conflict that weren't actually brought up in the conversation. seriously in all my years of watching reviews of bad movies and tv shows they at the very least were capable of forming full conversations that made little bit of sense. This is how a computer talks, it can't understand the full meaning behind every phrase and reacts the wrong way, you cannot pursuade me that not what the writers did.
You said it cuase That's EXACTLY WHAT IT FELT LIKE MISSING PARTS, RANDOM THINGS WITH NO SENSE, THE FUCK DID They THINK THIS WAS GOING BE LIKE?
Honestly a computer generated script is much more fun than this! Just look at the Batman script written by an ai
@@menaatefadly That one wasn't really written by A.I. but by Keaton Patti himself trying to mimick how an A.I. talks.
Even GPT-J isn't capable yet of full coherency with distinguishing of characters like in the A.I. Batman script although it gets closer, ironically I have a few A.I. generated scenes on my channel which I animated but it simply doesn't make sense at all if you try to animate that stuff, you don't even know what and how to animate what the A.I. generates.
Imagine getting mugged and having that confrontational attitude when someone displays concern.
The awkwardness of the conversations make me think two things are happening:
-Dialogues made funny for the sake of being funny, no matter how out of place they may be.
-Perhaps the actual animation was designed to accommodate a different language.
Just seen the first episode, and... I can't exactly grasp what's exactly causing the cringe I get from it. Maybe it's a bit of everything.
Me: I'll just watch the original with subs
Crunchyroll: this is the original.
Me:... [proceeds to barf]
The "is there a better time to get mugged" was a good joke
The problem is that everything else was not good. Not even them walking seemed barely okay
" That's right keep walking"
Is basically my friend at work when we insult each other for fun and I had to leave for break
This screams "first draft" to me. The mugging line was actually hilarious. Could have made for a funny sequence if more thought was put into the lines that came after it.
This entire show is the epitome of the phrase "could have used another draft"
Rosemary:" im sorry is there a better time to get mugged!? "
The dark chick: Yeah never...
While not great would have been a better line lol
0:14 this is how I walk with my bestie /irl
Japan's Anime industry does better with their Cartoons, example: Little Witch Academia and LOTS more...
Even comparing this garbage to the industry is a joke. There are youtube animated series with better animation and writing.
Example: one thing AND FIND THE REST YOURSELF
This is like the most understatement comment I read so far about HGS.
@@ItsStridinTime,
Speaking of UA-cam and animations, nice examples would include Viziepop's "Helluva Boss" and whatever Terminal Montage produces (dunno what to call speed demon Mario and exorcist Luigi, you see).
@@brinettevalorie4554 RIP Hazibin Hotel
This doesn't just feel like a cartoon network show trying to cash in the anime boom in the 2000s, it resembles more like those French or Italian cartoons from the 90s that had horrendous english dub voice acting and audio edits.
the cut offs and tone changes oml
😭 My 89 year old grandma can write better dialogue
Nevermind the dialogue, wtf is the scene consistency?
Let me break it down:
Brown hair is standing in front of blue hair and pink hair.
YES THANK YOU, the shot consistency was way more off-putting then the dialogue itself
outside of that crazy bad perspective on 0:15, this is pretty standard stuff for a cartoon. they get away with shit like this all the time, even the actually good ones
that's it, the mere fact that you have to watch this """show""" for more than five minutes and then edit them just for us deserves a sub (sorry I'm not very good writting in english yet)
Mate, your English is good and this aint even a show, it's just a monstrosity
Your English is good!
“Hold on. You got mugged on your first day?”
“I’m _sorry,_ is there a better time to get mugged?”
Hey, that’s not so bad.
“That’s right, keep walking!”
“Sheesh, you almost chop off a person’s head one time, it’s like, mrr…”
…Oh.
i swear they’re trying to be like owl house
It feels like there are a couple parts of that which could have been humorous if used in the right context, but they're all smashed together with some dumb cliches and make me want to cry.
Sounds like an 10 yearold trying to act all cool and tough when they watch R rated movies and try to mimic it in the real world but it always comes off cringe and confusing.
If it was intentional and we saw those insecurities, it would be something.
However... it isn't intentional from what I've seen.
i like how the blue haired girl was holding on to the pink haired girl’s arm for a few seconds, then in the next frame they’re seen far apart
If an anime director listens to this dialogue, he or she would flip out. 🤣🤣🤣
Seriously. A lot of anime have beautiful dialogue and animation that can make you fall in love with the show... and then there's this.
@@Xeno_Solarus you're discounting the piles of seasonal anime trash that get thrown out every year. Compare the good with the good, this is just another bad western show
Implying every anime has good dialogue is far from reality.
Imagine living in a world where the floor is so slippery you have to run to move at a walking pace
Feels so uncanny, like skipping the dialogue in a cutscene and only hearing the first sentences
Put Oblivion Music over this, and it would be a Masterpiece.
