Hi Casey, The barra blocks were essentially identical throughout BA to FG. The cranks were all the same too, the only main differences were the connecting rods and pistons. All the NA's and LPG engines had press fit pins where as all turbos had the free floating gudgeon pins, these are better for higher RPM stability as the pins can walk under significant load. In terms of rod difference most of the LPG engines had the 3r series rods which are stronger than the 1R rods seen in all NA's and earlier model BA BF Turbos. The other differences were the airflow patterns on the head and cam profiles moving into the FG's. Thanks
@@thebarraspecialist thanks for.the good info! A Google search lead me to many unanswered questions! Lol which head was the best ? I'm wanting to put a barra in my 64 Ford falcon! Turbo with all forged internals and big snail shell!
I am debating swap options. Are all the Barra blocks cast iron, or is there an aluminum version? So far the Barra has a better design for maintenance than the other option, but more weight. Parts availability is a bit of a wash. Thank you for the video.
Never heard of it happening nor had it happen to me, however I am aware of people recommending to remove caps in sequence because camshafts are brittle and can snap if they have a build up of tension from the valve train due to incorrect removal.
I got a green lpg bf losing half litre off water a month ...under pressure test gauge doesn't move no leaks has never overheated no water in oil ...thought it might be coolant cap replaced that still losing a bit water ...any ideas
Yep, head gasket was cooked. Another cause is the factory heat exchanger failing and transmission oil enters the cooling system, that would be separate from the engine oil though.
@@thebarraspecialist Yeah true.. ya gotta be very unlucky for either to happen as Iv owned 10 different barras and have never had heard or seen headgasket issues, iv seen the transcooler failure on other peoples falcons but never my own lolol
What's the strongest barra block? Or all the block the same with just different internals? Thanks

The best head for boost would be the B-series heads.
Log manifold explosion 🙂

Hey mate, all blocks constructions are give or take the same, minus the dipstick provision. Also, all blocks are cast iron
I’ve seen on other comments
Apparently the camshaft snap when undoing the caps
Have you heard about this

I always remove carefully and when installing, I do roughly 3 to 4 stages to seat the caps before torquing
@@thebarraspecialist i undone my caps but didn’t notice the back section popped but held at the front was tension on the cam

I reckon it's your head gasket. Maybe gas convertor diaphram too.
Milkshaked?? how did water mix with the engine oil??
Probably head gasket.
