I wish the writer's strike had not cut their last season short. It left so many loose ends. What happened to Paige? What happened to Pastor Rob? Why didn't he comfort Mary after George died? Why did Mary go back to the same miserable church that completely let her down in her time of need? What happend to Connie after loosing her home and business? How did Missy comes to grips with the death of her Dad and her feelings of being invisable? What heppened to Tam? I hope they tie up some of this in the new show.

Most of this will probably be answered in the spin off that’s coming out in a year or 2
Paige, I'd like to think didn't do the unprecedented and take her own life, but, unfortunately that seems to line up with how depressed she since her parents divorce. Since she did get more troubled in each season she appeared and Young Sheldon did get darker overtime and they dealt with heavier topics. She also did underage drinking, which means she might've have died from alcohol poisoning. I'm sorry I went down a sad route, but, a lot of sources I read said that Paige's life had taken a turn. On a happier note, we meet Tam in Season 12 of TBBT, in the episode "The Tam Turbulence where they acknowledge his existence in Sheldon's childhood. I think Meemaw got arrested or something during Season 7, so, that might have something to do with her personality shift. Missy went off the rails, I think, due to George's passing. At least Georgie implies in his TBBT episode that Missy seemingly never overcame her loss and that's the reason why she didn't manage to become successful and why she never managed to settle down with one husband for the rest of her life, despite having made a promise to George to work on her behaviour and having stepped up for a bit in Season 7. I know you didn't ask about Dr Sturgis and Dr Linkletter, two important mentors to Sheldon while he was growing up. But, I think D. Sturgis, was like 88 in S1 of TBBT and may have either died or become too weak to function correctly. Dr Linkletter probably had something similar and so Sheldon didn't talk about them for years until after it had ended.

I agree. When I first started watching young Sheldon, I remember thinking that they found an actress that looks so much like Laurie Metcalf🤣
What's funny is that not only did she play a younger version of her Mother for Young Sheldon, she also has guest starred on Roseanne as a younger Jackie in S5's Halloween episode; and S7's "All About Rosey" the Clip Show episodes.

Hope they are right and Georgie remarries his first wife. Also Lance Barber did an exceptional job rewriting George’s past as an incredible father and husband. He should win an Emmy Award for sure.

The part where Mary dresses like a blonde Swedish girl and Sheldon walks in on them both is such a great scene and justifies George Sr. as a devoted husband. Otherwise Lance Barber do such an excellent job at this character It is hard to pick out just one.
They literally retconned him from a alcoholic, non caring dad and cheating husband as he was always described by sheldon in tbbt to a loving dad and husband, just not very cultured and who occasionally has a beer or two... Lol
A personal theory: George Cooper Senior used to be very similar to Leonard's bully, until something terrible happened to him which took the stupidity away and forced him to man up. And then Georgie had to go through a stupidity-ending event of his own. Like father like son.
I hope Annie Potts (Meemaw) has a role in the Geirgie and Mandy spin-off. She was my favorite character, and a lot of activities could have occurred before she became the older Meemaw in TBBT.
Sheldon DID HAVE many Friends at the time of his father's death, but was so self-absorbed that he bearly noticed

Post menopause without hormone therapy leads to weight gain in women. Not just eating. The metabolism changes significantly.
You got it wrong. Georgie told why at his dad's funeral when Missy asked "Why are they laughing" "Because the loved him" its easier to laugh than to cry. No matter how many years have gone by.
People got up and told stories like that at my dad's funeral. The laughter was cathartic.

I didn't like that they made Missy appear dumb or a mess as she aged. They should have made her a successful adult, inspite of her experiences.

They jumped the shark when Sheldon agreed to a sham baptism. Mary wanting it no matter what the twins really thought and Pastor Jeff going along with it made them both look phoney. Missy saw that and learned that their faith was just a show. She refused to play the game and that is a heavy load to carry.

Since Young Sheldon was Sheldon's memories while writing his memoir, AND since he's become more sympathetic to people with his marriage and birth of his children, I think he created the scenario with his mother role playing as a sexy fraulein to change history and make his father more noble.
Even if the man did cheat. That doesn't take anything away from him as far as being a great dad. Sheldon needed a father like him.

@@ralphtime In the past in response to some irregularities between things Sheldon has said in TBBT and what we see in YS, the producers have said that a) they were not trying to make the shows fit perfectly, and b) Sheldon's errant recollections can be chalked up to his youthful misinterpretations.

I’m excited to see what happens next with Meemaw, Missy and how Georgie falls into his business. I can relate so well with Missy being she lost the only one in her family that she thought really new her as I felt with my Dads passing like the family was over with for me I just didn’t seem that big of a part of family existed anymore. I was in my own little world trying to be happy and to make others happy that I just felt like I could make any of them happy. I was always trying to make everyone else happy and I never could. So I had my kids so I wouldn’t feel so alone just like Missy with 2 failed marriages and stay busy with my kids an later getting in trouble with drugs and the law

I live in Ireland and I've recently finished Seasons 1-5 of Young Sheldon on Netflix but 6 isn't available here, and of course 7 is even further off. It's bugging me to not be able to at least watch 6 considering there is so much talk about what to expect in the next 2 seasons and the finale. I hope Netflix provides it to us soon.

For Sheldon I get it, his dad impacted his life more then anyone and he never appreciated him for it, so when his dad died it was easier to think about to think about the bad things about him because thinking about good times with a loved one hurts. But for Mary she can go f*ck herself,you mean to tell me she was so angry at him for DYING that she just completely hated him for the rest of her life? Because she was on TBBT a bit a she never had one good thing to say about George, the only thing that she insinuated was that George was the only person who knew how to be patient with Sheldon and he was.

We all knew in the Big Bang George had died. However watching it on Young Sheldon. It was extremely heartbreaking and sad. You know when people will post asking a question whose death of a character on a show hits you hard. This one really messed me up as i am typing this I have tears running down my face. I know Annie Potts came out and said she was pissed. That the higher-ups wanted to save money and cut everybody out and leave it with Georgie his wife and daughter. She also made it clear to people don’t treat the kids and the baby bad because it’s not their fault. It’s the higher up people that controls the network. I guess some people started saying nasty stuff about the new show and the actors. She said that’s not right to take it out on these kids that she loves dearly. They have absolutely no control. What the higher up people do.

You know I think people sometimes that take things wrong. My husband and I used to bicker back and forth. He was constantly picking on me and teasing me and I do the same to him people always thought we were fighting. Guess what we weren't we were having a blast with each other. I think Mary's doing the same thing I think that what people take as a rude remark about him isn't what she's meaning. Like when he fought a bobcat for licorice. That's not talking bad about him that's telling a funny story about your partner that's not here. And I'm the one who would know my husband died 3 years ago and I still talk about all the crazy stupid stuff you used to do. Because that's how I cope with it. And if people think you hate your husband or your wife whichever case it may be it's not necessarily that. It may not be that but I think it is I think she's just telling funny stories

I don’t think that Sheldon wasn’t attached to his father, but on the contrary- but he shares his mother’s way to deal with him passing: talking smack about his father, so George’s passing wouldn’t be so traumatic (you don’t usually miss that much a guy who was considered insufferable by you).

From what I vaguely remember from the Original Big Bang Theory, was an episode where Sheldon mentions his older brother was married & divorced 3 times. So, will that be figured into the newer show?

I would like to see Meemaw rebuild her house like she planned to, and for George and Mandy to buy their "family" home and still live across the street from Meemaw. Then they can keep her in the series. Then when Georgie gets rich he can move out and let Missy have it to raise her 4 kids in it. BUT....this way Meemaw is ALWAYS there. LOL 😅.

Because it was retconned. There was no "Young Sheldon" on the horizon when his mom was written. She was a comical throw away character.
The death of a family member could be very traumatic for the whole family.
What I thought Was Sad was Mandys Father and George Being such good Friends, For Awhile I enjoyed seeing a few Episodes of the 2 Fathers getting along together while the Mothers Hated each other for Some Reason, Even when there was an Issue, They always Came back to it as A can of Beer!
Mandy is exactly like her mom,I hope that changes. We have seen Mary boss George around ,I hope that changes.
The back characters of the family are all different that the references or appearance in the original show.

MeMaw is completely different.
George is not stupid, unfaithful or shiftless as described. (They sorta fixed the infaithful for Sheldon's POV but not Mary's)
Georgie and Sheldon were not estranged.
However Lorre quickly realized if he did a family sitcom about the family described in TBBT, nobody would watch it for long.
Especially as George and MeMaw were the audience favorite characters.

You want to know what really happened? They hadn’t cast young Sheldon at the time of tbbt and thus they had to cast actors in the roles. Reason they didn’t use the cast from tbbt for Sheldon’s family is because they were meant to be younger. Luckily we got tbbt Mary actors daughter as Mary in young Sheldon
Before you say anything about Georgie l, he was an original character to young Sheldon before he was added to tbbt for Sheldon’s wedding. At least they got to make tbbt Georgie look like older Georgie

What I don't get... is how super-fans of the show assume that all the facts of both shows were known from the beginning of time.
Why was MeeMaw different? Because the younger MeeMaw wasn't totally conceived of before TBBT was written - - as well as the fact that a child's recollection may not be completely accurate. And regarding the "difference", the older MeeMaw was concerned and upset that someone might have casually hurt her grandson emotionally, and she wasn't afraid to call them out on that. Is that SO different than the younger MeeMaw?

I loved my wife. Still do. That doesn't stop me being supremely pissed off that she ignored her symptoms and avoided seeing the doctor for long enough to let the cancer become undefeatable.

I really wished they had named it The Coopers. Georgie didn’t change his last name, did he? Also, do hope they bring some of the previous characters, like Missy, Mary, and MeeMaw on. Many families, if they aren’t living thousands of miles away, do make visits.That would be nice. After all, I thought I had heard Georgie say, he took care of his Mom and Missy after Sheldon went off to Cal Tech. So please, keep these two and MeeMaw too. Like Mary has issues living in the house after George. MeeMaw has her house built to her specifications and has an additional area that she has asked/told? Mary, that is for her. Missy, prior to marrying, lives with her Mom and MeeMaw for awhile.
I can see Mandy being both wives. Sheldon being so rigid and literal could explain why he referred to her and the first and second ex.
It's scary that the actress playing Missy ended up looking so much like her onscreen brother.

Missy runs away or just isn’t part of this….at all. Those 3 have been written out. That’s why Young Sheldon is over. It partially ended. But it was also budget cuts.
ok, I get Sheldon getting things wrong but in TBBT Georgie his self says he never had kids but clearly YS shows him as a devoted teen dad . I can understand Mary being mad at George Sr for dying, she actualy says LEVING HER at the funeral , but after so many years latter you would think she would want everyone know her man with all his flaws was a decent hard working man who did his best. Or maybe in her head she has not let go of ........he left instead of HE DIED ............. a spouse choses to leave, they do not chose to die so in Mary s head she s playing he chodr instead of he DIED because he didnt chose that

Georgie and Mandy are establishing their own household -- which may or may not be in Medford. It is possible that the couple will not see their parents or siblings for extended periods.
Missy is already a member of Mary's household, and should continue to be for several years. Even if G&A continue to live in Medford, they will be moving in different circles at this point.

My guess is that Dale passes away and thats why meemaw has changed losing everything just pushed her to become a different person
