Own a PD sling and everyday backpack but got the Duo and like it much better. Duo is lite, love the padded pockets and top pocket.

Thank you for doing this video! I've literally been sitting on this decision for the past few weeks now and could not find any content that compared the two bags. Honestly felt like its an extremely easy comparison to see, and could not realize why no one had compared these two bags from two respectable companies.

Both brands make very thoughtful bags, i think the Duo takes the cake on usefulness and versatility, even though I like the way the Peak bag looks and its finishings like straps and zippers.

Just to add a contrary view to the comments which overwhelmingly favor the Everyday Zip....I have a lot of PD bags, but in this specific case I prefer (and own) the Duo. Yes, the zipper isn't as smooth and there's a few other nitpicks I have, but overall it's more of what I was looking for in a bag. The PD feels more of a semi-permanent setup with the velcro shelves you have to adjust, where I feel like I can be more flexible with the Duo. But more importantly, for the weekend travel type situations I was getting this bag for (with a m43 camera and one or two lenses) I feel like the thicker camera cube, leaving the top half of the bag as big open space for everything else, just works better than the origami shelves (which I love in things like my 10L sling v1) for this type of use. But the attention to detail on PD bags is always a step beyond. Just for what I personally wanted in a bag this size (a hybrid EDC/weekend bag), the Duo design is better.

It’s good to hear another perspective.
Personally, I have a v1 Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L, and a Lowepro sling (it’s the medium size... I think 15 or 20L?). It’s fair to point out that both of these bags are quite different from the two in the video and your comment. I also have a M4/3 camera, two in fact, a couple lenses, remote flash, blah blah. One thing about the M4/3 system is you really need a customizable bag to take advantage of its smaller size. With the lowepro, I could never make the compartments small enough to keep my compact system from wiggling around and fitting snug... I feel like the Duo would have the same lack of customization. My PD EDC v1 pack lets me fully adjust the space between the origami “shelves” to really accommodate (with Velcro) how much vertical space I need (not much), and give me more room for other pieces around the camera and lenses (some really small primes). Since you can flip the “shelves” into a “u” shape or “n” shape, I have mine set so I can flip the shelves together and have just two compartments/tiers, or push a shelf the other way and get three tiers again. Shelves can also be pulled out altogether for a more “standard” backpack. I could also get “crazy” and flip one or both shelves vertical instead of horizontal. The PF Zip uses these same kind of origami shelves.
Since the Duo uses that box, while the Zip uses the origami dividers, I would assume the zip could more easily leave the top half of space for everything else, and just as easily convert to one big space? They’re both so close that someone would be well served with either one, I guess.

I wholeheartedly agree with this viewpoint. Another big thing for me, living in a relatively *bad* area, is that the Duo just looks a lot more low profile than the PD Everyday Zip. The stiffness in the bag keeping it's shape just kind of screams "Steal me, I'm probably keeping expensive stuff" while the Duo just looks like a regular true every day bag that just has a weird zipper to it.

I've owned both too, and prefer the duo as an EDC bag. But for camera I like tenba. I found side swinging a backpack is not a good camera solution, for that to work it's gotta be sling or messenger. Camera backpack sized, with that much gear, your better off taking the bag off.

Exactly the comparison I wanted to see, thanks. Personally I prefer the more relaxed look of the Wandrd Duo for an everyday carry, but the tougher zips and sliding straps are deal-breakers.
My perfect bag would look like a classic Eastpak Pak'r but with most of the Peak Design's bells and whistles.

My ZIP 15 l is giving me headaches due to the fact that both interior lateral zips, made of metal, scratch any item that is placed across the Zip bag and against them. Meaning my D500 with Sigma 50-100 due fit inside, but I have to place both zip pockets in open position otherwise these would scratch badly both camera touch screen and lens cap. Still I can fit my Peak Design Tech Pouch on the lower end of the backpack and remaining EDC on the top. I am talking to Jenn one of Peak Design representatives for a solution and maybe help preventing this issue on future models . Already sent some pictures and vids of my load-out...crossing fingers. Really like the bag and the bone color is mad, but the internal zips are ‘killing me’. The size is perfect for a small setup... and nowadays it fells like everyone is starting to carry a more minimalist set of itens ( even Peter McKinnon ! ) I even manage to insert tightly my iPad 12.9 (2016), my Sigma Art 18-35 lens, my Taotronics SoundSurge 46 ( new bone matching color ) , a Hoodman viewscreen magnifier, Giottos rocket air, Peak Design Slide camera strap, pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer’s sunglasses, spare battery and XQD card, DJI Copilot 2tb, Anker 26800, Anker wall charger, cables, Apple Pencil, mechanical pencil, field notes, keys...ufff .and a pair of cleaning pads for the dirt that sets up on the backpack...I guess it’s all.
Just got the answer from PD.: disappointing!!!

I got the duo daypack. Mainly using it as a tech pack with a small camera and it is great! I wish it also have the magnetic system for the strip.

Hi! I have a question about wandrd duo. Is it durable enough from the bottom of the popping cube? It will protect my camera from accidentally dropping some how?

You've made SO many videos of backpacks, it's really impressive (and too much for someone like me who is new to this search... hahaha).
I'm in the search for an every day use backpack that is TOP CLASS waterproof/resistant.
WANDRD looks like very coated, but if you got some advices amongst the huge amount of choices, I would be so grateful !
Thanks a lot for your work, and take care.

The accessibility of the wandrd is alot cleaner with a zipper in the front and a larger opening at the top. Works great when sitting in a plane and need to get to things quickly. Also love the the camera cube being able to just get put away quickly. Personally wasnt a fan of moving the origami's on the peak everytime I just needed to use it as EDC and not camera use.

I had a camera bag illness and ive tried most of them. I've settled on the tenba dna bacckpack for my larger camera setup, at that size, the self standing access is more useful than a side swinger. If i wanna side swing, its better if its a sling. For edc, with non camera stuff, in this case the duo works better. Its less proscrptive and straps are more comfy. The laptop compartment works better for comfort on the back (i have a big thick 15" thinkpad) when loaded. The peak you really feel it back there. The softer construction of the duo works better for edc comfort. Personally the stiffer structure of the peak only really is preferable for electronics, as its less comfortable. I tired of moving the velcro shelves, the duo is more fast in its flexibility. Id choose neither for a camera bag (tenba) but for edc, the duo worked better for me, felt better in all the ways it contacts the user.

Hmmm interesting.... I have the Wandrd Prvke 31 which is an increadible bag for a longer trip, but kinda big for taking to college or work etc. so i was looking at either of these. I think i prefer the layout of the Wandrd more but the Peak design has a nice hardshell feel to it. I have the Peak Design 5L sling so i have experience with both Wandrd and Peak. (still doesnt help me decide lol)

Interesting comparison. However, the more aspects you mention, the Peak Design Zip really does take the cake. To me, the most glaring difference: the light interior of the Peak Design. Among all of the many other details Peak Design offers overall better solutions IMO than Wandrd. Only small advantage of the Wandrd IMO: the external quick grab pocket, maybe the sternum strap (sometimes simpler is better).

I kept on fast forward to skip the repeating back and forth. About 1/3 in, got the idea you rate PD higher. I use PD zip bag, was curious to learn more about WANDRD, unfortunately didn’t hear much.

  • @TrevorHayes

Peak design wins on ease of use alone. The zippers on the duo were really rough and the camera cube was oddly shaped. Also the shoulder straps on the duo were very uncomfortable under load and felt low quality.

My experience is the opposite. The only negative I had with the Duo was that the straps sometimes need the sternum strap from sliding around.

Actually the peak design looks like a better version of wandrd because they both have the same functionality but peak almost every time does it better
