You shouldn’t rip the red one apart it’s in great condition and is all working. Instead use the red one and improve and modify it. But it’s Tim’s choice so if he wants to switch the parts to the other one there’s nothing stopping him.

Use the cab not just pieces and the engine a running engine is cheaper to fix then a non running engine

what you could do since u want a twin tag is stip the red one completely and then put it on the other 4 series chasie and you would be able to make it in to a twin tag with all the parts from the red one, in stead of stripping some of the parts move the whole truck over on the other chassie and you get what u would like + you have a whole functioning scania after it its a win win situation, we the comments get to keep the red scania and you get to get the twin tag u want and it will work
Hi Trucker Tim it was made by a Swede, he had a scania 141, with a smashed cab, and when he had a volvo cab standing, he put it on and called it the volvo F14

But, Shaun's right.... you've got to take the plunge Tim.... yes' the red truck is nice, but the whole point of buying it was for the blue truck... you've got the red truck now, so just start taking the bits you want/need off the red one, and start re-building the blue one... its clear that the blue one is your passion project, because if it wasn't you would never have bought the red one as a donor vehicle.... you've got the blue one down to chassis, you've started the restoration work, there'n no point caning it now, or all your hard work will go down the pan mate
Just take the cab off completely fit to the blue frame and put volvo cab on red frame easy
If you really want a twin tag Tim, why don't you just modify the mid-lift to become twin tag? It is in theory possible to carry over the axles and it's parts over to the red's chassi instead of giving yourself more work than that! Also, something interesting to see would be a refrigirated unit restoration or haulage with a owned ref unit!
Theres a guy near me who's turned a centre lift into a tag just by turning axle config around 180 deg,. Talk to Millingtons whitchurch shrops, he turns standard scanias into T cabs also,.

I think you should keep the chasse and engine from the blue one. take all of the parts from red onto blue that you are restoring, and put the red ones cab on it.

If you're breaking the red 4 Series, at least replace the parts that you take off with working ones so that it'll still works.
I know you've already done work in the blue one so feels like using red as donor is better but the red one is better to do up imo.
There was a Volvo F14 with a Scania V8 in Sweden some years ago and the gearbox from the Volvo fitted bolt on so I think you should give it a go, would be an awesome truck

Everyone is saying do the red one up but no, Tim is correct in his madness do the blue as it's already in bits and the work has started on. It is more work to get the red one to the same point as the blue is currently than just to strip it of parts

There's a bloke in Wrexham here. He's got an old 111 that he's put a 14 Litre V8 in and he's also put a 9 speed Fuller Gearbox behind it.

Tim, the reason it's so good, is the exact reason that it's a perfect breaker truck.
All the bits you want are in decent nick. If you go and buy a bad example of a truck, you won't get many good bits off of it to use on your blue one. Plus it's all genuine scania bits as well. Better to make one perfect one from the two lesser trucks.

Yes, such modifications have also taken place. Although it's commonly talked about only in one case, it was interesting enough to spark regular discussions on social media. Usually, the accompanying photo is also shown, originally published in the Swedish magazine "Trailer" in the early 1993 issue. Clearly visible in the photo is a Volvo truck, a first-generation F12 model, with a V8 engine under the cabin and the characteristic Scania valve covers. Additionally, the "F14" marking on the cabin stands out, indicating a model that simply never existed in the official lineup.
The surprising project was initiated by the now-defunct Swedish transport company Solstatrafik. They had a habit of buying trucks from both domestic brands, so in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you could find both Volvo F12 and Scania 141 in their fleet. The former was highly regarded in the company for its durable drivetrain, especially the incredibly robust axles. Volvo also offered a more modern working environment with a cabin design nearly a decade younger. On the other hand, the latter brand was supposed to deliver significantly better performance, thanks to its 14-liter V8 engine. In the 141 model produced from 1976 to 1981, it produced a maximum power of 375 HP, which exceeded the performance of the 12-liter six-cylinder F12 from the early production by 45 HP.
Taking into account these advantages, a Volvo F12 with an engine from a Scania 141 seemed like the perfect truck for the Swedes. This is the modification that Solstatrafik decided to make in one of its F12 trucks by installing the "V8" engine from the 141 model. As if there weren't enough curiosities here, the Scania engine was directly connected to the Volvo transmission, which reportedly turned out to be entirely possible! Additionally, the truck received a non-original badge with the "F14" designation, indicating the 14-liter capacity. Moreover, on the radiator grille, right next to the Volvo emblem, a distinctive symbol "∀8∀" appeared. So, you can easily imagine the astonishment it must have caused among Swedish drivers, especially since the engine change also brought an

Just a bit of info, many years ago when I started driving the weight limit had just been put up to 38 tons on 5 axles up from 32 ton on 4 axles. Hardly anyone had 3 axle trucks or tri axle trailers, so many small company's and owner drivers took the cheaper option of converting their 2 axle units to 3 axles. The extra axle was tagged on the back, they already had 2 axles so the extra or third one being the tag, there is no twin tag unless you count odd specials. So please stop calling them twin tags they are not unless you have bought a 1 axle truck.
A twin tag has 4 wheels on it a tag has 2 don’t know why your so annoyed by it

sound like when one of mine had a problem with the return valve on the pump,did that and it was cured,that was 18 years ago and its still right.

Now try north American truck 10, 13,15,18 speed or even the odd old twin stick. None are sequential gear boxes, so you float the gears. The clutch is just for stopping and starting
I thought like others shame to brake the red series 4, but I have to admire your vision and determination, as you have a point the twin tag suits you better than the mid-lift, It's your dream to be fair.

Tim, just my opinion, if it was me, I’d keep the red one as is for now & maybe once the blue ones chassis restored can you not swap the red ones cab over as it’s got all the extra cab options, & then use your blue ones other bits for the red one & put that V8 in the Volvania FHV8. You can still restore the blue cab, and then restore the red ones chassis after you’ve swapped bits over, the only problem you would have unless you put the Volvo engine in the so called red ones chassis, that way you keep all the trucks running & workable at the same time, If you catch my drift?

As I have got NVQ Level 3 in vehicle refinishing in Bristol, Soundwell College from back in 1996/1998. Admittedly I haven’t done much on the bodywork or prep side etc, but watching your & other peoples bodywork jobs, it does all seem pretty much the same. Paint has changed, as most of its all water based, I’m used to polyurethane, paint mixing, Clear Over Base / Laquering, metallics / metaflake etc & 2K paints ( smells like pear drops, used to heat it up on a portable gas hob to help the viscosity / paint spray pattern crafty really, as it meant we used less paint as it flowed / spread better ) probably shouldn’t have admitted to that, as health n safety etc made things harder.

swap the chasie from the blue truck and take some of the blue truck bits that are good and use them for the bad bits on the red one instead of taking bits off the red to put on the blue truck save your self a whole load of money for the parts you need for the blue truck and use the parts you already have to make the red truck MOT passable and then if you feel like it pains the red truck blue or make it better once it’s leagal for the road

Hey Tim how you doing, we all understand where your coming from with ripping the red one apart for the blue one but the majority of us viewers would prefer if u keep the red and turn that into a show truck and sell the blue scania parts for scrap or more money towards the red one. And to show your appreciation with trucks, put your chassis rails from the law exports truck on the top of the office or even sell that for scrap. anyway good luck with what ever you do mate and keep up with good content :)

In my opinion the red one being a classic and also being in the condition it is I would say restore the red one yes it means starting again and converting it to twin tag however, what I would do is get the bloke from Scania down see how much it would be for the parts on the red one and then it would help you decide if it's going to cost half the amount and you'll have a better truck in half the time I know which I'd choose 🤷🏻♂️ plus use the engine from the blue one for the volvo

I reckon you need to just swap the axles and propshaft over, also all the best bits, as that red one is too good to rip apart to satisfy the blue one
I know the decision ultimately falls to Tim, but wouldn't it make more sense to take the engine from the blue one, get that up to snuff and shoehorn it into the Volvo, then do a mid lift to rear lift conversion on the red one?

I want your tool kit. A v8 fh will be awesome, if you're going to that length then it has to be remapped and run some proper power! Definitely strip the red one and ignore the hate and negative comments. You want a twin tag so make a twin tag!!!
I like the Idea Shawn suggested, You should Stretch it out into a wrecker since Shawn loves it so much, he might use it for more Recovery's. You can take this Truck to Recovery's and Shawn can Take his DAF and he can train you up to do that.
May you can buy Half Shawn's business, and then you can have a good company and it would benefit both you of.

Red cab off and onto blues chassis, plus the stacks and alloys swopped , darren would have an easier job painting the red cab plus you would have a classic 164 R series, and red trucks got 2 leaf springs on the front so saves you buying them, the looms and load of bits could be swapped to,. and you would still have running V8 engine to sell or swop, V8 in fh volvo ! hmmm,.????......

I wouldnt strip the red one. Do it up. Someone mention an xf daf with scania v8. And throw a volvo ishift gearbox on the back. Power and comfort . Then let shaun stretch it. Alot work a head of you. Love a 143 or 4 series.
There has been one Volvo with a Scania V8 here in Sweden in the 1990s .
A truck company called Solsta Trafik took a Volvo F10 and get a V8 frome a Scania 141 in it and had Volvo gearbox to it.
They sad that to get volvos gearbox to match the Scania engine we're a pain in the as and took the longest time to finish
just strip it, all the parts are being used anyway, the blue truck will be just as nice and the volvo v8 would be worth it
Tim stay with your original plan don't listen to people take parts off the red one and use them to put on the blue one way more cost affective that way anyway no point in restoring that one to you will just be in the same boat chasing parts .tbf most of the parts on the red one are genuine anyway so I would just restore the blue one .
I think you should keep the red Scania how it is and for the Volvo put the engine and gearbox from the blue one and put it in the Volvo and take the twin tag from the blue and put it on the red .
If you combine a scania and Volvo then you should call it a volcan 😂. Me personally I would put the v8 from the 4 series in to a f10 or f12 i would even use the stacks from the red scania on the Volvo project. Also I would love that tool advent calendar. 👍🏻

ABS fault on your Scania. Fault code 10-2 indicates a right rear wheel sensor fault
What I think is you could do the same as Martin if it’s possible and swap it from mid axle to tag axle just use the blue twin tag
