    I think a video discussing high/low volume would be informative. Those look fantastic btw.

    11:09 That edit, lol. Had to rewind and watch again.
    Now I'm saying "dang it" since I bought a pair. They're great!
    I'm a low volume foot, so an insert works really well with this boot for me.

    I have a high volume foot too. I have slightly wide feet, high arches and high instep. I even had some difficulty with the Trubalance last because it was crushing my instep. I tried the Modified last which is much better fit out of the box. I am looking at the Brass boot too. This has been helpful.

    Can you focus more on the Last shape from above too? Alden Indy Trubalance last is also known to be particularly c shaped which is more accommodating for the big toe to be kept in a natural position and not forced against the rest of the toes.

    Thank you for this. I have two wide feet, but one is considerably wider, and with more volume than the other. Two weeks ago I received my Grant Stone Cap Toe Forest Kudu in 9EEE (ordered based on a Grant Stone review by you) and I am happy. My narrower foot is a little less snug than the other, but I wear thick wool socks in these boots and all is good.

      AWESOME!!! thanks so much for this feedback!! I really hope the sizing works out for you, we are all still trying to figure it out but ultimately it seems various approaches work depending on foot type!!

      @@DalesLeatherworks They're nicer than I thought! I'm a 7.7 and 7.6 (wide D to narrow E) in sizing by Red Wing and the 7 D's fit wonderfully. They're stunning!

    it makes sense the indy would be longer because the trubalance last runs 1/2 to 1 full size large.

    adding my own comment for Leo last, i can't wear 9.5D because of the instep volume, however 9E volume wise is way more than a 9.5D. In both instep width, height, and heel width and volume. Wyatt said 9E fits the same as 10D volume wise.

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  2 роки тому

      I had some instep pain on the ostrich in 8.5D recently, had me thinking perhaps I should have tried the 7.5EEE to really open up that instep area! thanks for the input my friend

    Thanks for all the sizing info. I might try a half size smaller than my usual since these are meant to have extra room in the toe box. I don't have a high volume foot and I have narrow heels.

    I used this method and bought a pair of Saddle Tan Veg Disels in 11E off Ebay at a heavily discounted price (used 3 times), I'm a 12D brannock and they fit great, I want to try a pair in 11.5D for my lower volume feet.

    Have a pair arriving tomorrow, very excited after seeing your review. When the time does come to treat/condition them what will you use for this type of leather? Thanks!

    Another good video Dale. Does the heel area get wider on the E widths or is it mainly through the instep and toes?
    I could never try this approach to sizing because my foot is low volume, and narrow heel. Just need a generous width on the toes and that’s it.
    Those waxy tobacco Edwards look amazing I have been eye-balling them for a while. Those and the Badalassi Diesel are high on my “next purchase” list.

      the heel is the same on the 8E as the 8.5D as far as is can tell! I had a little pain on my instep on the left foot today but that went away pretty quickly. overall very happy with the changeup!

    My brannock is 8.5 e, I wear Thursday captains and rw iron rangers at 9.5d due to width I have about almost 2 inches of space at the toe. I have tried a 9 e in another boot but it was too wide. Should i go for an 8.5e in brass boots or 9? I do wear wool socks

    I got the same boots. love them. took them to the beach to climb rocks and get in the water a bit. needless to say, they got sandy and wet. So question, would that be bad for the leather?

    Great review Dale, as always!
    I have the Alden in Tobacco Reverse Chamois. My experience comparing this with my Indy 405 (Calfskin) is that the Reverse Tobacco Chamois mold better to my feet, I am guessing is because is a bit more supple than the Calfskin. In length, the RTC are a little longer due to the 360 Goodyear Welt.
    I wonder if this sizing hack you're sharing with us could also apply to the Trubalance last 🤔... Being a combination last, could I go down a half size and up a width have the same effect in the Indy boots? Let me know what you think!! Cheers bro.

    Great video! Wow, this sizing stuff blows my mind! I could never figure out what size to order. I always had size 12 sneakers and dress shoes so naturally I thought 12 in boots too. Wow, does it vary across brands. Some are good, some are too narrow. I just always felt I had a wide foot, so when I saw GS had E widths, I tried those. I have a 12D in GS Chelsea, 12E in Diesel Dune, and 12E in Cap toe Kudu. They all feel ok, but I'd say the Cap toe is a bit bulkier then the others. 12E Diesel feels great, but so does the 12D Chelsea. I wouldn't go any narrower on the Chelsea, but I feel its a big long and my heel seems to swim/float around a lot. The Diesel and Cap Toe feel roomy and probably could go shorter slightly. I have my sights set on the Brass boot next, so what do I do? Sounds like 11.5E is an option, but would 10.5EEE be too small? By your calculation to go down a half and up a width, it would be similar to a 12D, just shorter, right? Plus isn't the Brass boot a bit roomier than the Chelsea and Diesel anyway? I don't want a 12 in the Brass b/c I fear it will look too bulky and like clown shoes. Any advice is much appreciated!

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  2 роки тому +1

      by the sounds of it I would say you should try the 11.5E in the brass boot if your 12's are a hair long! I wouldn't drop all the way down to a 10.5EEE but it might actually work! 11EE/EEE would be another option but for most models I think they just offer a standard E width so I think 11.5E is your best bet

    I've never owned waxy commander so when you say microsuede I imagine a thinner lest robust leather. Does it fit and wear as I'm imagining? A bit less supportive of a feel than say a veg tanned upper or even a nubuck or roughout?

    Is it actual suede or flesh out fullgrain leather? I really want to find something like this in flesh out... but they only seem common in the PNW logger style boots (Whites, Nicks etc)

    Hi Dale.
    I am 10.5 (issh 10.47) E brannock and had the GS Brass Boot 10 E, but the next one I will do 9.5 E. Question: the same thing apply for GS Diesel, knowing that Diesel is less volume boot? I feel my size is 10 E, but maybe I can try 9.5 E? Thanks

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  2 роки тому +1

      great question! the heel to ball on the diesel to the brass boot will be the same but yes the diesel will have lower walls in the vamp and an unstructured toe so it really depends on your foot type and the sizing is totally up to you! I'm happy with my diesels in 8.5D and my brass boots in 8.5D, I can just tell the brass in 8E is maybe a little more anatomically correct, though I do experience a tiny bit of pain on my left instep at the end of the day. that will likely alleviate with wear though

      @@DalesLeatherworks I agreed. I have allen edmonds Patton boot 10 E and I am very happy with the the fit. I tried 9.5 E on the store, but didn't like it. As you said every feet are different. GS needs a show room in NY 😀

    Is there any difference in heel fit between the 8E and 8.5D? I’m actually the exact same size, I measure 9D Brannock and just ordered 8.5D. The toebox is roomy which I like, but the heel feels ever so slightly too loose. I also have about 1 and 3/4 of an inch from where my toe sits to the very tip of the boot, so I’m wondering if should even go 8D

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  Рік тому +1

      I can’t sense a difference in heel lift no! Yes I’d try the 8E as it will be the same width as the 8.5D but yes I could even go to an 8D in their shell models on the Floyd last
