  • Hey Folks!
Hop on board for another fun pinball adventure with your pal EM-PINMAN!
In general I cover electromechanical, some early solid state pinball, and arcade games from 1979 and before, repairing/restoring these machines in my Lone Star Arcade.
Want to see a semi-restored Williams 1966 Hot Line pinball machine in action? Then check out this video of me struggling to spell HOT LINE! I beat the squirrels, but will I beat the machine? Time to find out! Enjoy! :-)

Beautiful machine! I love the bumper configuration. The machine sounds tight!

Thank You! Super Fun indeed! I'm not a big fan of 2" flippers, but on this game it does not matter as it is so unique. ;-)

Great to see this final video of the game in action after watching the m/c's progress. If you or any viewers could help me out with this little headache, it would be much appreciated. This concerns a newly acquired 1966 “Williams Full House”. It was working before it was transported. Sometime down the road, the coin box has been removed and a free play button installed (loads 5 games at a time when pressed, don’t know if this is usual). When plugged in (there is no on/off switch on this game), the backbox and the table light up, the backbox shows “Ball 1” in play as if a game was in progress. When the start button is pressed the 'games to play' reel moves (minus) one position and the score motor on the bottom panel operates continuously, the only way to stop it is by pushing the free game button (which then loads 5 more games). Otherwise, the playfield is dead. Sometimes pressing the start button has the 'games to play' reel minus a game and the motor moves what sounds like the pescribed amount but again 'Ball 1' lit and no action. I’ve checked for stuck switches, broken wires, and the coils test OK, everything seems fine. The ball count stepper unit does not move on its own but goes up to 5 (with a nudge after ball 1), the top plunger releases crisply back to start when pressed. Thanks for any ideas and Seasons Greetings to all!

      Williams Start-Up Sequence.
When the start button is pressed, the credit unit is decremented. This is done through the credit unit zero position switch and the 2nd coin relay (and the ball count zero position switch).
The end of stroke (EOS) switch on the credit unit decrement coil will energize the coin relay.
The coin relay will trip the game over relay.
The coin relay will energize the reset relay. The score motor will run.
The reset relay will energize the ball count unit reset, through the score motor.
The reset relay energizes the 2nd coin relay latch and game over relay latch coils.
The reset relay will energize the score reset relays, through the score motor.
The score reel reset relays will zero the score reels, through the score motor. The score motor will continue to activate the score reset relays until all the score reels reach the zero position.
The reset relay activates the bonus unit coil until the bonus unit zero position switch is activated.
When the bonus relay drops out, the outhole relay is energized through a different bonus unit zero switch and score motor switch.
The outhole relay will run the score motor. The bonus unit will step up once. The ball will be kicked to the shooter lane.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following these sequences step by step, you can usually generally locate the start up sequence problem. For example, say you have a Gottlieb multi-player game. After pressing the start button, the score motor starts turning, and the score reels all move the zero position. But the score motor keeps spinning and nothing more happens. Looking at the start-up sequence, we can see this would probably be a problem with the "SB" relay and the player unit (or maybe a dirty score reel zero position switch, which occurs in the previous step).
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You may want to check out other folks repair videos regarding start up issues as well to get a feel for the areas you need to address.
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A quick item you can do is reset by hand all the score wheels to the number "1" . Press the start button to start a game, do they all go to "0"? They should, if not, which ever score wheel gets hung up you is the one you need to find out why. Example, if it is the "1" point score wheel not resetting then check the switches on that score wheel along with any switch that scores "1" point located above or below the playfield. Good Luck in your quest. ;-)

@@em-pinmanspandemoniumpinba4193 Wow! I wasn't expecting that, very generous of you. Thanks so much, I was on a bit of a down and your prompt detailed response really picked me up after days of banging my head against the wall. Plus our furnace is on the fritz, temps are forecast to be in the single digits for the next several days and because of the tme of year no new part is available 'til Tuesday. Can't wait until tomorrow to put your advice to use. 👍👍

If you are still having trouble solving your issue you can join "Pinside.com" for free and post your issue in the "Electromechanical Tech" section. Make sure you have a copy of the schematic and be able to post pictures. The folks there will chime in and help walk you through the problem, teaching you how to fix your own machine. It's a very helpful place and friendly with knowledgeable folks, some of them may even own a Williams Full House. ;-)
