I like how Mario Kart Wii is the only Mario Kart which has Friendly Fire off in teams mode, which in my opinion is so much better than your teammates trying to hit you for some reason. I guess this is the reason why Nintendo decided to try utilizing teams in battle mode.
I'll be honest: I never really got into this game. Sure, I have fond memories staying up real late and unlocking stuff like Diddy Kong and the Leaf Cup, but I never really felt that great at the game. It's probably because I only played with the Wiimote in the wheel, which was just too awkward (as I didn't know you could play with the Nunchuck, nor did I have a Pro Controller).
15:15 personally, I am perfectly fine with the whole effort thing, I wouldn’t PREFER to have it come back but I think for what it is in Mario kart Wii, it’s pretty good, it gets me competitive sometimes and that’s cool
I play Mario Kart ever since the SNES but this entry... damn. I wasted so much time in it offline and online with excitement! The Wii Wheel was fun, personally even the character models looked good to me. Really not into modding console games but still, I love that the community keeps MKW alive.
I like the fresh take of the thunder cloud being a risk vs reward scenario, there have been scenarios where Ive benefitted greatly and passed on the cloud right before it goes off. However it is frustrating getting it frequently and especially when no racers or shortcuts are nearby.
one of my favourite parts in Mario kart wii is the easter eggs, from the thwomp behind the cage in BC64 to Bower's Castle's music being a slow-down version of Maple Treeway's music. Another thing I love about Mario Kart Wii is how some of the retro tracks were update, some of them such as Bowser Castle 3 and Peach Gardens got better textures but other tracks such as Shy Guy Beach and Battle Course 4 kept the old school pixelated textures
A high school friend of mine own this game and brought it over to my place for us to play. From what I've remembered, it was a pretty fun experience playing Mario Kart Wii. I might have played this before then, but I might have forgotten.
No kidding about the title. I knew this game was going to devolve into the Melee of Mario Kart. The difference is the Mario Kart community isn't nearly as toxic. Thankfully.
Mario Kart Wii is easily my favourite. First, Rosalina, a character that I loved back then, is added and looks really cool in that bikesuit. Second, it plays way better for me than Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe). Third, the Mii's are fun to play as well, especially because they don't wear helmets. There's more what I love about Mario Kart Wii. It's just amazing. I agree about the dated graphics, but the item balance is what restricts my fun with this game. I always play against easy CPU's in 150 ccm, yet I lost some races because of the blue nuke shell of doom. That was frustrating.
a lot of world records in this game were done using wiimote and nunchuck. The are 3 good control styles in this game. because motion controls have 3 extra frames to do stuff
I personally have had more blue shells in mk8 than mkwii. Also every 30-40 seconds in mkwii somebody gets a shock, so there is more strategy of knowing when a shock may happen, and once someone gets one, then you have to wait 30-40 more seconds for another, meanwhile in mk8 I remember getting shocked, and as I was small, I got shocked again.
I love everything at that game. Even after i fell of from the track at rainbow road that i am still on lap one while evryone is at last ones. Not to mention you can get out of the bound pretty easy. And it's daisy curcuit confirms Luigi X Daisy as official ship.
Ive been playing mario kart wii since it came out, being introduced to the larger community via mario kart black and the original ctgp (i had it on a disc, bruh). I still play ctgp with my dad when a new update comes out, and online on my own.
14:40 They should give the option to turn off respawning. Last team standing or last man standing (or both) is so much more fun than that stupid point system
For Mario Kart 9, I'd like to see an easier version of Wii's unlockable system. I like the idea of having to do specific things to unlock various characters and vehicles, but I wasn't good enough at Mario Kart to unlock everything when I played Wii, mainly due to being a child.
I really liked how in Mario Kart wii you have get a certain amount of stars in every Grand Prix to unlock certain characters but when getting 3 stars the real challenge shows you have to race well and also take 1st place in every race. I kinda don't like how 7 and 8 made it too easy to unlock characters and get 3 stars you just have to take 1st place in every race.
Looking at a few reviews, no one talk about that they give you the option to drift manual or automatic. Automatic drifting was my favorite option to pick.
The way Mario Kart Wii handled unlockables kept me engaged for literally months (single player or local multiplayer only!) I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a few weeks ago (when I got a switch) and I haven't even passed 15 hours on it because I've just done everything I can with it, except Mirror and 200 CC, but I don't care anymore because I got bored. I have no IRL friends I can easily play with, can't afford Switch Online, and because you only get kart parts by playing, I already got bored, because I can race with the things I have now. If I had to work to get the characters I would at LEAST keep playing until I would have them all because my brain can't simply leave a question mark there. The removal of the unlocking system made me spend almost full price for a game I am already bored with after like 12 hours. It's really a travesty.
I still remember that moment I first unlocked my first character King Boo. I used it all the time until I got later characters because it felt special even if it was one of the easiest unlocks overall
16:49 There is still a way to play these tournaments. You'll obviously need to download Homebrew, and if you go the Wiimmfi Guide I used from wii.guide/wiimmfi.html, you can scroll down to Other Stuff (for some reason, they're called competitions on this site) and it should have a file to play these tournaments once again. I raced against Wiggler on Wario's Gold Mine the other week.
I dont really experience the blue shell problem, maybe u have aggresive on then its pure chaos and blue shells, my problem is the item distribution, the fact that you can get s blooper in the same position where u can golden shrooms stars and mega shrooms is baffling
The episode we've all been waiting for... Edit: Mario Kart Wii has the best unlocking system and I'd love to see more unlockables be similar to what you have to do in MKWii.
Wii has the best gameplay easily, in terms of the controls. It feels so smooth and flawless to stunt while 8 feels clunkier. Sure, retro tracks, balancing, graphics etc might be bad but gameplay wise, it's one of the best Mario Karts.
And here we have Mario Kart Wii. I got into this game in summer 2008. After renting it for a bit, I would properly own Mario Kart Wii the following year. To this day, I see it as having the greatest roster in the Mario Kart series. A perfect balance of light, medium, and heavy racers brimming with diversity from the Mario universe. With Diddy and Funky Kong, the DK sub-series got some love too. My favorite player is Dry Bowser. As for the tracks, they are great. As you said, some of the coolest courses originate from Wii. I love Mushroom Gorge, but Coconut Mall, Daisy Circuit, Maple Treeway, and Rainbow Road are fun. I am also a huge fan of the music. Visually, the game isn't the best. Even upon playing it, I felt that the reused shiny models from Double Dash!! were meh in this game. Double Dash!! itself has a better use of color compared to this game, but it's by no means a deal breaker. All in all, I happily see Mario Kart Wii as my third favorite game in this series. It's fun to revisit it now and then.
I was pretty disappointed that the only unlockable character in MK8D was Gold Mario a CLONE character, it least he’s somewhat cool but I would have liked more. MKW on the other hand was a thrill to unlock all the characters!

Yeah this was a great Mario Kart game and still is but I'm one of those people who just got annoyed by Funky Kong. Due to him being the fastest, you'd see him everywhere, and even though I didn't play him myself, I still heard him everywhere all the time and his voice got incredibly annoying to me as a result. Bikes also were immensely annoying because of their wheelie mechanic, meaning you had to either choose the Bowser Bike or Mach Bike or you might as well just not even play if you wanted to stand a chance. Sure sometimes karts could still win but bikes still had an unfair advantage and I didn't like that at all. I do very much prefer how Mario Kart 8 does it for that reason alone. That said I still do love this game, and I haven't even modded it myself. And at the very least it was, sometimes, kind of fun to challenge the barage of Funky Kongs with Yoshi. I did make a lot of 'em eat my dust.
While I'm a fan of Funky Kong, I absolutely agree with this sentiment. Or rather, when there is an obvious "meta" for how to play the game and so everyone does it. There becomes a lot less variety in the racers/karts people play as and people lose their individuality online. For instance, Morton was one of the meta characters in the original MK8 and I ended up *despising* playing against him.
Best roster is Mario Kart DS for R.O.B.. The oddball pick makes it complete. R.O.B. is from another franchise making him exotic, he is the only character from another franchise in the roster of the game making it unique and special instead of worn out, he was the first out-of-franchise character to be included in the roster making it surprising, and he was exclusive to a dead franchise meaning that many people did not recognise him and were as confused when seeing him as tDonkey Kong was in the ending screen. That alongside the fact that he looks and sounds awesome is what made him great. Funky Kong is just a normal character from a Mario Spin-Off, he is cool but he cannot even come close to being is special and amazing as R.O.B.. And of course, after getting to know R.O.B. in MKDs SSBB also included him making him even more well-known. Those were the days, racing with R.O.B. on my handheld and fighting with R.O.B. on my home console.
I remember going to my uncle's houce and playing this alot I played it so mutch when I was younger i wish I culd play it agen but the disc is pretty scrached up now
I would disagree with the item balance. Mario Kart Wii is very fair with the power items. Bullet bills, shocks, stars, and blue shells can only be held by one person at a time in a race and have a cooldown when used. In later games such as Mario Kart 8, you can see like five bullet bills coming at you all at once.
I hate when people hate on the item balance of MKWii, yet they don’t remember that in MK8 3 people can hold blue shells/bullets/lightnings at once in MK8/DX
I never owned MK Wii I bought a Wii vary late so I missed out on allot of Wii games. Double dash was the first MK game I owned but I played 64 and SNES at my friend's house when I was a kid.

It's not that big of an issue, but it's worth bringing up.
Mario Kart DS introduced a bike
I'll be sure to get our video up soon so they can come here!
I'll make a community post about it!
When you comment at December 29 and the video uploaded in December 23: 👁👄👁
I hate when people hate on the item balance of MKWii, yet they don’t remember that in MK8 3 people can hold blue shells/bullets/lightnings at once in MK8/DX
The year is 20XX, #FreeWii and #SaveMarioKart are trending
Dry Bones Supremacy~
Hyped=Me the big plot
I never owned MK Wii I bought a Wii vary late so I missed out on allot of Wii games. Double dash was the first MK game I owned but I played 64 and SNES at my friend's house when I was a kid.
Yo @Demeech I have a video idea, what if Nintendo went on to do a Mario Kart Allstars for the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Kart in 2022? The collection would likely include MK64, Double Dash and MKWii with the hope of online being included and perhaps even more stuff? What do you think?
I don't think they'd do anything for the anniversary. They never celebrate anniversaries outside of Super Mario Bros., Zelda, and Kirby.
Always the best Mario Kart!!!
the next Mario kart game is coming in 2022 for mario kart's 30th anniversary it will be like a Mario kart ultimate. Although maybe that's a bad prediction because we didn't get a new Yoshi game this year for his 30th anniversary
The only anniversaries they celebrate are Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda, and Kirby.
1:06 dude I expected TWD98
