Deutsche Grammophon I enjoy the videos. Just a video of Víkingur and his piano would suffice but I enjoy the videos. I enjoy the fishy nod to Christianity and I’m sure Bach would as well. Keep em coming
Your videos are beautifully emphasizing Bach's music. Full of emotions, penetrating deeply in our souls. Please, do continue making those kind of videos. Congratulations to the filming team, to Víkingur Ólafsson ( wonderful pianist ) and thank you Deutsche Grammophon. Thank you, Herr Johann Sebastian Bach.
The video, the story told, adds so much to Bach's music. The Prelude is not just music, it is telling a story of the human condition. The video is perfect and I think Bach would be pleased.
In answer to your question (of a year ago). I think this video is perfection. I am a 52 year old. I was a professional ballet dancer in my youth and so learned Bach (Scarlatti, Stravinsky, Hindemith etc. with a Balanchine company) with not only my ears but my body as well. Bach's prelude No. 10 has a quality of unreachable sadness, or melancholy, that stretches away from the listener. All our lives are filled with one kind of mechanized habit or another. Are they not? This guy here, well he's a spot on an assembly line, a cog in the machine, a life inside a box, a breath in concrete cave. And why? ...Vikingur is right. This is who he plays for. I've been in opera houses and stages all over the world full of awesome, wealthy patrons with white hair (like mine, now), and beautiful clothes. But that is not, perhaps, who needs Bach most. I feel this is a Paean to the warehouse man. and that is a right thing for it to be.
I am still quite young, but many times I have felt tired of my life. I try to find meaningful connections, but society feels disconnected to me. A part of me just wants to quit the imaginary social construct we are all tied to. That is, a person must find friends and companions. But sometimes people make me feel more alone. And watching this video made me realize there is hope in exploring uncharted waters.
i know what you mean... i lead my life mostly solitary.. don't feel the connection with the unfair society i was born into. sometimes music is only things that seems to speaks to me and gives me comfort... all the best to u Ren.
Don’t just listen - play music yourself. You don’t have to perform at a professional level. Do it just for you. This may give you more of an outlet for your feelings.
"Listen, play, love, revere - and keep your yapper shut," Einstein said of Bach, whom he worshipped. This is probably the best I’ve ever seen on UA-cam so far. RESPECT.
A very romantic interpretation of a baroque piece; the purists will object but I really like this. "So long and thanks for all the fish", Douglas Adams.
FYI there's nothing for "purists" to be concerned about here -- it's not Bach or Baroque, it's an arrangement by A. Siloti which is unto itself inherently Romantic (cf. for example the pedal markings in Siloti's score).
Vikingur Ólafsson is definitely a deep thinker and an artist in music. I can feel his persistence and passion through his interviews and the way he translates his thoughts through his piano music. So beautiful. I was in art school for 10 years before I dived into the world of music. I love Bach, too. When I stumbled upon Vikingur’s NPR home concert, I immediately felt in love with it. All the videos are very thoughtfully done. They speak well for his music.
Víkingur can do no wrong, musically, in my eyes. The transcription and the video are perfection. The best concert pianist of the last 20 years, IMHO. Bravissimo!🎉😊
Viking, i love that a young man of your talent and accomplishment is bringing out the exquisite tender beauty that resides in bachs music. You are a gift to mankind, and have already greatly enriched my life with your work. Thank you.
A very, very well done art piece. Love the video and Vikingur’s playing. The video adds more depth to the music. You should do more video in such style. Love every bit of it. Bravo 👏🏻
It's seems to me that about ME. Very special modern interpritation as if It was wright today or may be yesterday in the evening, without TOO MUCH. Thank you!
Lovely piece. I've had this job before. Except working on an actual processing boat 100+ hours a week. Sorting salmon, gutting them, packing add to the fact its small quarters and you share a room with 8 other men. Tempers rise and personalities clash. All in the end you make a few bucks and a lot is taken for taxes. Never again.
Such an amazing song. I think the video could have been shot in beautiful church chapels with less close ups of fish. Regardless, I like the down to earth perspective. Jesus's disciples were a bunch of fisherman and down to earth guys who weren't up to the standards to be pharisees
This is the transcription for piano by Alexander Siloti of a piece originally composed by J.S.Bach for clavicembalo (this one ua-cam.com/video/BhbcT5r5sN0/v-deo.html ) To me sounds like an arrangement more than a transcription
I like authentic Bach, but to understand why this transcription try listening to the great Emil Gilels playing it in the Great Hall of the Moscow University. This is meltingly beautiful - just listen to the ethereal chords in the left hand - only a person without a soul would not be moved.
Exquisite playing .Why does DG insist on superimposing these pointless visuals ?! We would prefer to just watch the pianist and concentrate on Bach .What has a fish factory got to do with anything? It was horrible
The man in the video, probably, wants to change life. The real sense of the fish factory is that the fish was a primordial symbol of Christianity shared with the life of Bach. Nothing is useless
Was this another video directed by Magnús Leifsson? I has his fingerprints all over it. Pretensious. Nothing to do with the music. And an obsession with people in rubber boots. As I said after watching his clip to accompany Vikingur's Bach-Stradal. He should find a different outlet for his cinematic talent -he would make an excellent clapper boy.
What do you think about the music video's interpretation of Bach's music?
