I love this melody, it kind of gives me a positive feeling and helps me to “fly away” from all the bad things that these days influences upon us. I am a “boy”, 70 years of age, and I love the way you teaches how to play the chords in different ways. As a pensioner I find great pleasure in playing piano every day, simple jazz tunes, and also playing and singing with friends in a guitar group. I find inspiration in many of the songs that you are presenting.😊

I love this tune, and how it affects me as a listener and a player.
I was a kid when it came out, not really understanding what a lineman is or does, but felt the sense of longing for home and missing home, and missing the one you love. The motifs and progression reinforce the emotion so well.
The ambivalence of the line, “and I need you more than want you.” was especially confusing to me as a kid. It said to me, hey kid, feelings and life are complicated. People are complicated. That’s a great song that communicates that to a child, or to anybody willing to listen and feel the music.
The song has an instant sense of longing and nostalgia that made me connect to it in the first few bars. Jimmy Webb!

Hi Tony, great deciphering of the played notes. I like to do that too very much. I saw an interview with the great Jimmy Web. Interviewed by Rick Beato.
At 30:40 Jimmy speaks and play the actual chords.
Might be interesting to see and hear the nitty gritty stuf.
If this results into new insight… I would love to hear it!
    Keep going!

Very cool! We had a party line in the early 70s when I lived with my parents. Other party never got off the phone. On it for hours. we could hardly make a call! hehe. Nice chords in this. I'll certainly have a go at this one. I can sing a bit too. not bragging but I've got some decent tone in my voice. Tony, you can still sing great!!! (my favorite Glen Cambell song is "gentle on my mind"

Never would have tried it or thought about it but pretty. I have been writing numbers lately and added to my list. You think its a fairly ok practice? I use slash with either M major m minor or 7 and if its got a bass another slash with its number. Probably lyrics would be good too.....

I listened to it. I like what he did in the first half. He has lately developed a choppy style of playing which I don't particularly care for but I do consider him a great piano player. Saw him in concert once, terrific.

@@TonyWinston Your performance doesn't suck. I think at some point a quick run through of the whole song, and it doesn't have to be a grammy winning performance, would be helpful and then do your analysis. I just had trouble getting through the whole video with all the stopping and starting for the whole thing.
