@@roxrequiem2935 Well, it's an island that gnomes used to breed Half-Ogres for use as bodygurds/muscle. It involved a lot... No, a LOT of male ogre to human female rape. So yeah, fuck gnomes.
Nah, people stopped going after Sseth and instead went after his discord mods. One in particular had to face weird calls to his girlfriend and her family, and having CP faxed to his employer. That's why Sseth puts an expiration date on all discord servers he makes.

It's funny that you're surprised about how long the manual is, because a large amount of manuals back then were like that. Especially for RPGs. The Baldur's Gate manuals were massive. Even MGS4 had a really good manual with lots of unique stuff, although not as long as that.
Honestly I miss the days where you got these kinds of manuals with games. It was basically just an excuse for game writers to go crazy with lore in a way they weren't permitted to with the actual game. I still have my OG Starcraft game manual. Its written better than the game is.
@@matrix3509 Homeworld is well-known for that as well, great lore. It's impressive that the games were just as well-written. Except 2, but 1 and Cataclysm were just as well written as the lore within their manuals.
So, one thing about the edgy final boss philosophy: Arcanum is a harsh world, and yet it is one where an afterlife is not only confirmed, but genuinely pleasant to be in. To the point that spirits are pained to be contacted, and people are usually unwilling to come back to life.
In regards to the gnome hate, it is more than justified if you have played through and understand the context of where half ogres come from. The phrase "The queen birthed 3 before she died." should tell you everything you need to know.
The manual is just an example of what game manuals used to be like. You'd get litteral bound booklets that were 50 to a hundred pages long and like 75 percent of it would be background lore. The original tribes manual had an entire history of human development for over 200 years.
The thing about the antagonists philosophy as well is that he's kind of right. The afterlife does exist in Arcanum's setting, and is pretty great. One of your companions who can die and be brought back to life even says the antagonist has a point in that, just disagrees with the idea of forcing everyone to go along with it and that life isn't all bad.

Regarding that Benatar quote. There is a pretty large discussion in ethics whether denying someone's chance for existance is unethical or not, depending on various axioms. Naturally, the quote only applies to *not having children*, not to murdering your existing ones. Although that distinction is something that often comes into question in the aforementioned discussions.

Good old arcanum, where you can make a character so dumb he cant even get the NAME of the very first follower you get right.. yeah they went through a great deal with dialogue in this game. A whole set of dialogue around one spell? there is ALSO different dialogue if not smart enough or depending on your race and/or tech/magic alignment. Too bad combat itseld is, well.. bad. I never once before faced a game where I feared more my own character shooting himself in the foot with a handgun (despite being built to be a gun user) more than I feared the actual enemy.
