This theme was by BA Robertson and was from the final series from 1981/1982. For the last series it was called Swap Shop rather than The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop. BA Robertson then did the theme for Saturday Superstore.
@@cylon6 Although they were written by different people and they use the instruments and styles of the time, it's almost like the producer of both shows were asking for the same thing. I was just listening to the Joe 90 theme and thought how easily it could have been used for an 'Avengers' type show as well. Like the producer had asked for 'feelings of adventure ' or something. :) Joe 90 - ua-cam.com/video/4utQWy9heEI/v-deo.html
@@thesunreport BA Robertson did this theme tune ? So that's why it is so crap. The original was better than this one. 'BA' was Edmonds' buddy and Edmonds (who was known for his little 'tricks' ) probably pulled strings for 'BA' to get the job of composing this.
I remember this 2nd version of the theme... If you search for the longer version its got some real grroove - BA Robertson made some great jingles and tunes!
i remember the words on my screen "Keith Chegwin Maggie Philbin" but all i could see was "chunky-phill-bibble" ... no, hunky chunkwin... no, pump-me phillcheg... anyway to cut a long story short i had to see a child-psychologist... he was crap to he was only 6 years old.
ok cool.....there were some Keith Chegwin jokes in the paper today (tbh i didn't know he really did 'joke comedy' or whatever)..so here's the one that made me laugh the most.. "My Dad, who is a roadworker, told me he'd been stealing from his job....I didn't believe him...but when I got home all the signs were there." ... :D ..Good Old Cheggers.
In general, ITV shows were thought to be for the working class and BBC shows for those who considered themselves middle class. BBC had 'Blue Peter' and ITV had 'Magpie'.
I lived in an area where Tiswas wasn't shown until 1979, so I watched Swap Shop for three years. After Chris Tarrant left Tiswas it was unwatchable crap.
I liked swap shop liked posh paws I have pet sheep you can comment 117 0984 posh paws was dinosaur and I thought he was a dragon when I was a wee boy and I like Adam Ant
RIP Keith :(
I loved Swap Shop, and i also loved watching Tony Hart drawing :D
good old Tony Hart, legend.
R.I.P. Keith Chegwin
Thanks so much for putting this up, brings back some lovely childhood memories :-)
RIP Cheggers the problem with getting old is you lose all your childhood tv stars
+Johan Mahoney-Berg Not necessarily a bad thing...
It seems 90% were kiddy fiddlers
Jamal Tyrone Cheggers was one of the good guys. He is STILL missed. RIP.
The sad thing about Cheggers was, he was an alcoholic and a chain-smoker and those two things combined, led him to an early grave. RIP Chegwin.
I know, aged nearly 54 - takes me back to childhood memories!
Tony Hart was so clever.
Saturday mornings flew by with shows like when I was a young un.....
Clips like this bring back memories like nothing else can !
Great stuff! I would have loved it if TOny Hart had drawn a giraffe for me!
Brilliant! Thanks for the post. Any more Swap Shop would be much appreciated!
RIP Keith 💛
I used to love this, i would love full episdoes on dvd, i have the last episode, but no others.
Rip Chewgin 💔
Ah the good old saturday mornings.
I still prefer the original theme music and titles.
I'd give anything to live back in the days when a kids programme or sports programme was important enough to have a clock to count it in.
Never even heard about this before today.
I remember this
Happy 😊 days 👌
Maggie philbin sat on my bike when swap shop came to my town
+D Sacko Did you sniff the seat after?
The 8-year old that called in wanting a giraffe picture is probably about 37 now.
God I'm old.
BionicChango That person would be 45 year old right now. Ouch.
Evonne Okafor . yes, ouch that UA-cam comments are aging themselves, let alone the actual video. 😣😣😣
I must be older than that kid, as I turn 54 in June (about 10 at the time!)

For whatever reason it reminded me of the Perishers theme as well. :)

Happy Birthday Ian
still rockin the beard today!!
The tune is Yellow Pearl by Phil Lynott used as the Top of the Pops theme tune in the early 80's.
Cheers! Maybe not Phil's best stuff but REALLY brings back a lot of memories for some reason.
.
Cheggers popped his clogs!!
a great programme on Saturday morning .why did bbc close it down? Does any body knows why.
I used to have an identical clip of this, on a video from around 1993 lol. Good clip!
Loved the show, but can't say I remember the theme tune.
Aah immortal half sleepy memories.
RIP Cheggers
1:32 For a moment Noel sounded exactly like Jim Davidson!
R.I.P. Noel
Proper tv , not the nonsense of nowadays , Maggie is luuuuvvvlly

Philip Lynott - Yellow Pearl
What year is this from?
(I wasn't looking at what Tony was drawing)... 2.40 thought he said "what'd'ya' like about your arse!
Liked the original theme instead of this one .
It should have been Noel!
Noel sounded like a toff back then
Noel still looks the same
+Tim Holcroft It's all the cocaine
It's all the plastic surgery and carefully dyed hair with highlights more like.

gan9e this hilarious comment has been hiding here for four years waiting to be discovered! Made my day.
hahaha 😁
Why is this #17 trending?
was that barney the dinosaur in the opening credits?
No, it was Posh Paws.
Why is this on the trending page lol
Because Keith Chegwin died yesterday and people are watching the stuff he was in ...probably.

Ha! Ha! Maggie and Keith before the divorce!
bet Keith was itching to get in the boozer
I bet the boy who got the giraffe picture , Ian still has that, it would be an antique now Tony Hart has died. RIP Tony Hart!
Not a patch on TISWAS
The original was better .
commie bastard

middle classes. 🤣😂
