It’s crazy how once Butcher caught on that Mesmer was reading his mind, he pretends to help him up and shows Mesmer the vision of him brutally smashing his face on a sink. Like imagine having the power to see people’s thoughts and you use it to see your own death
I think Butcher just showed him everything, and once Mesmer understood how far Butcher was willing to go he lost all hope

Butcher was completely in the right to do this mesmer was fine with homelander and rest of the seven with killing the boys and their families just so he can be famous again rather than having a relationship with his daughter that he failed and had the chance to fix things with again
And then had the stones to try to tell Butcher "I have a daughter!" after choosing fame over her, yet again.

Well, according to the law, it is murder yes but this is one of the few kills where Billy was justified in killing him, the guy was a slimy scumbag, and a terrible father

Butcher would've killed him even in public. This is the same dude who shot Starlight in a public park and crashed his car into Hugie's workplace, which also brings up the fact that the public seemingly doesn't call the cops on him during either of this incidents. This leads me to believe that citizens in this universe are so use to death and property damage that someone being murdered in front of them isn't a huge deal anymore.

Ok , i admit , Butcher maybe didnt really have to kill him but it’s not like we can really blame cause Mesmer told Homelander about them wich was a really dumb move.
And beside’s i think it’s fair to say that you should never piss off Billy Butcher cause he live’s up to his name , he butcher’s the people he doesnt like esoecially the supe’s or the one’s who work with supe’s.
I really hope that show doesnt end like the comic’s , cause i really really like Butcher better as an anti-hero , i dont want the show to end in a Breaking Bad style.
I think they could do something similar but absolutely it cannot end the same.
In the comics the point of Butcher's character is that he is a sadistic douchebag, he was, he is and will always be, Becky was the only thing that kept him in line and when she died he became irredeemable, so he had to die, and he had to die at the hands of Hughie.
This Butcher is obviously not the same, the point is how once a good man lost his way after a tragedy and now is trying to overcome that tragedy and become a better man, he cannot end the same.

The Compound V he injected into his brain tumor is going to be what takes over his mind just like that one episode of Diobolical where that one man's wife who is dying of cancer had compound v give her cancer super powers

he was thinking about what could happen because of mesmer ratting on him. he was thinking of the boys and their family being murdered by The Seven. remember what happened to mallory’s grandkids, they got incinerated by lamplighter
Butcher's mind was already made up. He was going to kill Mesmer and that was that. Mesmer thought he could try and weasel his way out of it by bringing up his wife, whom he thought was a soft spot for Butcher but he misread the situation. Mentioning Butcher's wife didn't mellow him out, it put more fuel on the fire of his rage. So Butcher thought to himself: 'Let me show you what is going to happen when you try to use my wife to manipulate me' and filled his head with thoughts of the horrible things he was about to do to Mesmer.

"According to showrunner Eric Kripke, the amount of Compound V that is prescribed to a subject will determine the strength of their superpowers. While some some superhumans such as Queen Maeve and Homelander were given high amounts of Compound V (being immensely powerful as a result), other superhumans such as Mesmer and Eagle the Archer were given low amounts and so have significantly weaker abilities. Kripke also added that Compound V is very expensive to produce."

@@axlrosest V is also very dangerous and risky. While I'm not sure of this by any means, I think Homelander has about as much V as anyone can take. He's basically what would happen if you gave a baby as much V as you could without killing them. The pinnacle of what the serum can achieve, when use to its full potential.
You try and put more than that in anyone else, and they'll turn out unstable or just die on the spot. Most supes are already unstable, but they can still be talked to and reasoned with. Most of them, anyway. But if you try to give someone more than what Homelander has, their mind would just shatter and they would be uncontrollable.
I'm not going off canon, with this. That's just how I think it works. The series also shows that there are tons of scientists still working with V to try and improve it, so there's always a possibility they can make it better in the future.

His optimal genetics were used to produce HL with a unique method that integrated V with genetic material at conception. He was dosed up to the highest extent humanly possible. That is why HL is so powerful compared to (most) others: genetics and the method used in production, which they decided not to try again. They don't want more HL-tier supes around. Ryan and HL are too much as is.
