Do your parents watch your videos?
I don't think so, unfortunately.
Oh, that sucks. :(
Thats not a bad thing
doesnt your profile picture answer that?
could you make a "game box 2" in the future with multi colour leds? that would be cool.
or maybe a tetris feature
Driver2900 RGB LED's are expensive and require extra inputs, so he'd have to use a normal Arduino instead of a mini.
Driver2900 game box one... like... xbox.... nvm....
NULL Derp nope shift registers
AlexGyver ALREADY made a 3d led cube with tetris in... 3D
if this guy was my teacher for everything I would enjoy school more
Lol, agreed.
But life is cruel so- WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
Ok
Cary is the only UA-cam ever to say graveltastic
I get it.
I don't get it. plox explain
Justin L First human ever
I didn't know Cary was a UA-cam!
Wow, simply graveltastic!
will there be DLC?
Extra colors

maxmoefoegames Hello
Was this recommanded because of you?!
I'm saving up for the game of the year edition.
I pre-ordered it, the game is good, since I pre-ordered it It gives me the color Red!
The 94% Sham I pre-ordered the soundtrack. Did you hear they are making an anime out of this game? I think it's called Boku no Pixel.
Bob I found the Easter egg where it beeps once :0
Bob Oh yeah, I don't think I'll like the anime tho..
I'm waiting for a movie
Separate the LEDs with silvered borders so you have square pixels instead of gross round ones. That would also help if you wanted to make it RGB instead of... G or B?
In the rain and holding my phone, and sees that Cary just uploaded 26 minutes ago.
Good idea, me.
[wrng_answr] haha
Wuzztasic!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active (which has an ip68 rating making it waterproof to an extent), So I could watch his videos underwater ;)
Clinterpottrmus S5 for me. yay 1m resisistance!
Clinterpottrmus I have the s7 edge
It also has a ip68 rating
Even asians have trouble with USB cables
phew
You can delay in microseconds on the arduino
Oh yeah, I just discovered that. It's so easy to use, too... I have no excuse!
carykh Always amazes me how fast those little guys are :P
why do u wear shoes inside your bedroom Cary? Cary!!
CUZ I'M LAZY and wow, as a result, my floors are quite dirty.
carykh cleaning takes more time than taking shoes off
lazy bedroom shoe-wearers rise up
One thing that might help the multiplexing would be Adafruit NeoPixels, individually-addressable RGBLEDs that can be controlled by an Arduino. They're pretty helpful for various electronic projects, especially when you have a grid like this.
I wanna play Minecraft on that thing
DrappyDropper Minercaft cary eddition
it would have better graphics then the real game
true
That would be hard to play
What happens when a Rubix cube hits puberty

Hey carykh, I have a suggestion to reduce the flickering, but you're not going to like it. See, you're trying to create motion in your game, but you're using two different colours of LEDs. So your brain is more likely to interpret the difference as a flicker and not as likely to make a moving image out of it. Soooo... you could change out all the LED's for the same color.. or go for multi coloured. Or just leave it and accept that it's going to look a bit weird. Anyway, love the way this looks! keep up the good work!
I think there is a delayNano or something like that in arduino so you could use 500 nanoseconds instead of 0.5 mili seconds.
do you mean delayMicros?
delayMicroseconds would have worked.
0:32 me trying to plug my iPad in in complete darkness at 2 in the morning
You are so cool! I love your videos! It is just so awe inspiring to watch you do all these cool technical things that I dream of doing! And of course those old race videos are entertaining too.
How old are you Cary?
3 years old
in dog years times bird years converted to cat years and then divided by 3 to equal the number of human years.
That means he's 914.666666667 years old btw
He’s 21.
Are you the same guy from the evolve simulator?
Quinn Reynolds why are they separate channels?
Brandin Ricardo what do you mean?
better graphics than life!
"Watch as this gaming console improves from the Pong era to 4K resolution in just 14 minutes!"
DaxLax ya
Great job, Cary! And i love your excitement at 12:32, I can relate to that feeling! :)
Are you using 5v rated LEDs?
Is it possible to send PWM signal to LEDs to control brightness?
failing@commenting looks like he's using standard blue/green LEDs which would use around 3V, using a dropper resistor for each column.
PWM is very well possible but most likely not with arduino C, as that code is lijely to end up too slow. Programming the microcontroller in assembly would be the "easier" way for that
You know you can always use an old fashion resistor to make it less bright.
and Arduino can do PWM on certain pins. I don't know exactly how the micro controller is driving this game, but I am quite certain he needs more than a few pins to light all those LEDs.
I do know I could just lower the brightness by lowering the current going through the LEDs. I could also just lessen the percentage of the time tne LED is actually on, which will give the appearance of being less bright. However, in person, the display is about the right brightness for me, and it only seems way too bright on camera.
It is generally not recommended to control brightness just by lowering the current (by putting a bigger resistors or whatever), because diodes need some minimum current just to start working, and LEDs current/brightness graph is very nonlinear, that's why PWM signal is used.
But if you're satisfied with how bright LEDs are right now, no need to complicate things.
Even if you're ok with the brightness, doing pwm would add another dimension to work with. x, y and brightness. Could be interesting.
YOU USED THE SAME SONG AS TRAINER TIPS. Just found that cool, great video
Andres Madson I like your pic
Can somebody please tell me why this video was recommended?!!
Darkdudejr Because UA-cam is strange like that.
Darkdudejr potatoes
Darkdudejr because we elected a carrot as president
Captain hank gavil better than a warmonger
No. Only the algorithm can.
Is that music familiar?
(HINT: I watch TrainerTips)
hell yeah boss
imo the best looking way to do this would be to have everything behind the display instead of next to it, then making a square case with rounded edges and have the filter cover the entire front or maybe a really thin border so it would basically be a borderless monitor (although with a really thin border actually)
12:30 You know you're a true geek when you get super excited because you fixed a bug.
this is the content i want to see.
nerdy hardware production and programming :3
also,bye sean
Ahh you used one of my favourite songs in this. I thought I'd accidentally hit the button on my headphones and it had started playing what I was last listening to when it came on first. Kubbi is so good.
I really like your videos since I can somewhat relate to them. Currently we are also using multiplexing at school to control a 4x 7-segment screen, but what you're doing is far more interesting
0:30 Man who was able to create an 8 by 8 GAME console seen using his full energy right here.
The state of a USB is always in superposition until you look at it.
I just realized this was carry
that place looks fucking amazing! where do you live?!
not stalking
Sheepifier totally
It's so funny. I had the same idea of making my very own display with LEDs. It seems like my blueprint is exactly like yours. Boy I can't wait to get started
Whens the first micro-dlc ?
Draw a grid on the paper so you can tell where the lights are on the grid. Love your videos and your enthusiasm, keep it up!
right before you started talking about stores I was talking about book stores
as an amateur programmer, I totally get that feeling when you solve a hard problem
2. video of this? awwww I thought the paper would make it look like crap but after you solved issue 2, I WANT THAT OMFG! Excellent job there, you're awesome !
Hello cary! Thank you vey much for making this video, since it is the inspiration for my "console"
1:11 I LOST
What place is this recorded at, with that nice weather this time of year?
Who are the bullies though?
i wanna know.....
Daniel oneNut Me 2
Strangers. Strangers are always bullies.
Hiss.
Sublyme Gaming xD
Please make part 2 soon! Your content is SO interesting.
For issue #2, couldn't you just use alternating current directions each row, and still have 1ms per row?
SHAINEEH CAWARDD
Yes, but he'd also have to completely resolder the LED grid. LED's are diodes, so only take current in one direction.
...nerd talk lol no offense
The arduinoLEDs environment looks so similar to processing. Is it built on top of it, or just inspired by it?
One thing that might make the screen look even better is if you display each frame 2 or 3 times. This will make the black parts shorter, which should help the screen look more natural.
2:07 I saw the yeaaaahh boy kid every time the lights flickered through the paper
YOURE A CUBER TOO OMFG THIS CHANNEL JUST GOT 1000X BETTER(it was already my favorite)
Love the new editing style!
Yay for Cary's vlogs!
thats faster than my pc
Clorox Bleach Original same ...not even joking
Lol
Clorox Bleach Original I still use Windows xp 😣😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
+Creative Monkey lol windows xp can't type or see emojis kid
why is this in my recommended
one minute i was watching a cat having vietnam flashbacks and the next im here
The fact that carykh who's like my inspiration for getting into tech cant plug in a usb makes me happy, even if he was just kidding.
Dude, I SWEAR that's Randall from 'Nasty Honeybadger'
STANFORD!!!
My two teacher prefer UC Berkeley for their college because they go there. And I do have a Cardinal sweater. And also...IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!
the flicker is more apparent because the afterimage actually made it look more smooth for the game but looks horrible for the other mode
That bookstore looks like a tiny mall
+carykh My recommendation for next time would be to reduce the grid space between the LEDS and put physical dividers between them so the light does not bleed over to the spaces beside it. This would make it look much more clean and professional. Other than that, great job with the display!
11:49 "I get the message"
*flashes to discord messages*
Why not use polarizing film?
Because he's shopping at a college bookstore.
Assuming he want's to learn about technology I suggest that he buy a couple sheets on amazon.
+OfficialHopelost9 words. just saying stuff to seem relevant.
13:54 So? Make Part 1, make part 2, and edit them together!
As someone who does this for a hobby and an EE dropout, the amount of face palm i have done in 14 minutes almost causes an overflow. Still cool though... I remember doing multiplexing in the 6th grade using 74xx logic and a 555 because it's 2006 and PIC and Atmel were expensive still.
you should add lines, dividers, and labels on the gameboard to see whats where
yeah
You are right on the sony vegas thing. Was editing school film project and I used 5-6 hours only to find out I used one .mov file too much ;_;
When the camera fell: im tired im gonna sleep bye.
Man this is so cool. I would never be able to do something like this
Buy an Arduino from Amazon, with ~2-3 LED's. Watch some UA-cam video on how to turn on an LED. You will be truly amazed how easy it is to learn how to do this :).
11:45 the delay(0.5) does not work but you could try delayMicroseconds(500) or maybe even smaller.
You could put opaque tape on the cardboard edges to make them smoother.
I couldn't stop replaying the part where you were being giggled at by bullies
It just makes me wish I could do something
MRW vlog music is the same as Trainer Tips'
YUSSS I love Kubbi! (The artist of the background music)
i want the soundbyte of cary saying "uh-oh,"
11:45 You can use 'delayMicroseconds' to get some really precise delays. So for 0.5ms delayMicroseconds(500);
The only problem is that you start getting compute times affecting your timing once you get that small... Computers are so freakin fast man. A better way to control timing is with micros() or millis(), so that your compute time doesn't make a difference. Just remember to include some kind of catch for if the value is going to overflow.
Just a little heads up you might find useful - you CAN delay for half a millisecond, you just can't use delay(0.5) to do it. delayMicroseconds(500) should do the trick!
Quick question, I'm a new fan and I was just wondering what degree you are going for in college since I'm graduating soon and I discovered I liked programming alot last year.
To make the game easier to understand, I think a second overlay should be added, which would be made of cardboard too, and it would just show the game itself and the score. but that's just my opinion- the Game looks great!
13:40 "Oh I Died"
Thats an oxymoron
I like Kubbi apparently you do too
You should never think that LEDs of differing degrees of brightness would be shorted together. BECAUSE the current would divide, or the voltage would....depending on your setup. Therefore, you really wouldn't expect to have a BRIGHT LED and a DIMMER LED. Any shorted LEDS would be of an equivalent brightness. Ohms law !
Is that a stickerless YJ Yulong cube at 6:35? I have the same one!
For extra style points, write something where the afterimages appear on purpose, but only when you want them to.
It is going to be practically impossible to read the binary with the paper on top of the lights because you can't see the ones that are off
I know why the bottom doesn't light up. It has to go through the carry state in witch it does not send a signal before it loops back to the top.
Wendy Solganik which*
Is that Rubiks Cube a Newisland Phoenix?
pov:cary makes a 64p screen with two colors and 3 levels of brightness
Wait... Hes asian?
Well... I guess... lol?
Photonic
I did not know it until this video.
Photonic It's no surprise that someone who made a simple game is Asian...
Ice pascual Lol
He said immersive and it just reminded me of MXR mods, and his voice does sound reallly similar, and I haven't seen much of his channel yet
