Kerry Bascom was the first true superstar that opposing teams worried about when UConn was ascending as a women's basketball national powerhouse. Rebecca Lobo was the national superstar that was recognized to propel underdog UConn to finally defeat the Tennessee dynasty. Nykesha was the next great superstar to fill Lobo's shoes and continue Uconn's playoff consistency until the Sue Bird recruiting class arrived at UConn.

I really like these UCONN Legacies that you have recorded. It makes me wonder, are you a former UConn player or do you love UCONN just as much as I do.
I really enjoy your content. I enjoy it so much, I subscribed to MJL243.
    Thank you 🙂

Well maybe it was me that played in the late 70’s. Kerry was a bit younger and was probably early 80’s. But trust me when I say she was an excellent pitcher and could really hit!😎

Some day soon we will miss Geno. The first few minutes of the recruiting responses are pretty amazing. We won nothing when these two were recruited, our program was in its infancy. There were much better established programs than us. Yet somehow not only did Geno connect with each of them in a personal way but he got them to yes. Geno is an amazing person on so many levels.

The freebie was a crock and the reason a lot of people just stopped watching this farce. If I recall correctly (no 100% sure), that game went down to the wire. The time they took off the clock with her shot and the uncontested allowance shot for the other team might have affected the outcome of the game. If they wanted to hand her the record, the other coach should have gotten himself called for a technical. Let Sales take the free throws under game conditions, not uncontested. How unfair to take it away from the girl who actually scored the most points in real games.

You didn't watch or listen to the video... the other person who held the record (Kerry Bascom) was approached in advance and gave her blessing to Nykesha Sales. The other teams coach approved it... knowing the overall game time was a bit shorter... and it didn't matter. Not sure what all the hatred is about.. everyone directly involved/affected were fine with the gesture. They were honoring Sales with this little tribute.. and people still lose their minds over it years later.

@@northerniggy8261 And what was she going to say? "No, I think it's unfair?" Talk about putting her between a rock and a hard place. It was a stupid poorly intentioned crock because it made fans realize that women's basketball is a second rate game. They *never* would have done that in a men's game.
