John Rosensteel (sp), picked up Gettysburg battlefield artifacts that make up over 90% of the items being displayed in the museum. Unfortunately, one of the most valued artifacts used to be displayed as you first walked into the old Gettysburg museum, it was a 34lb bench rifle w/ a 4x scope that was found at Devil's Den. The rifle was used by the Texas First and the person using it was researched and identified with approximately 95% certainty by Civil War experts, certified civil war historians and battlefield documents. The rifle now sits with two other rifles in a crowded display with little identification or the history it once told. The new museum curators decided that the history, ownership and the 130yr + solved mystery of who used that rifle was no longer worthy of being told.
