In conjunction with the National Park Service and the West Point Museum, we are high atop Little Round Top with some amazing people and artifacts (featuring Gouverneur K. Warren's field glasses). We also give a behind-the-scenes look and update on the Little Round Top restoration progress.

Garry has reached peak Civil War nerd: Shaving his beard to look like a Civil War General. It's awesome 😂
However, someone needs to tell Garry, as he grows the whiskers, to not shave his neck. Very obvious that he is not familiar with the art of growing beards.
He needs to consider switching to de-caf, however.
@@chroniciguana402 exactly, I hate watching that gesticulating clown!
Wonderful artifact of General Warren!
Welcome back. Another well done July 1st! Thanks.
I'm Brazilian, but I'm a huge enthusiast of the story of the Battle of Gettysburg. My dream is to be able to travel to the US so I can visit the battlefield. Congratulations on the 160th anniversary of this three-day battle that was decisive in shifting the war advantage to the Union.
It’s a wonderful town and park. Make the trip!
Gettysburg is a history buffs Mecca. You must go!
How are things in BRAZIL?
Don’t go on the anniversary of the battle because of the crowds. Go in mid-June if you can. The weather will be the same as the battle and the land lush with greenery as it was in 1863.
@@thomasbedell4770 I went in 2005 on anniversary. Large crowds but great reenactment that was worth seeing.
This has been the highlight of my year so far to see General Warren’s field glasses on LRT. He got a raw deal from Grant and Sheridan. Good to see him getting some love today.
I still can't understand the Dressing Down of General Warren. Wasn't it at 5 Forks? Wasn't it about troop movements in the supposed wrong direction?
Strong Vincent all the way!
This was soo cool
Can’t wait to see the round tops when it’s open again
I just LOVE IT!!! When you have all the speakers there together! It's like well grease wheel and it all flows like it should! My UTMOST RESPECT! for all that you'll do to keep this alive and where are like sponges just soaking as much as we can!. I'll continue to donate to American Battlefield Trust when I can to make sure that all of this will NEVER be forgotten!!!
Absolutely Spectacular!!
Thank you for this presentation. The Chamberlain quote at the end.
To look at Seminary/ Warfield Ridge through Warren's binoculars, oh man!
Awesome stuff!!
Gary, Your wiskers are distinguished sir. I am a Burnside man myself and cast my vote for him, but remember your wiskers will be a living memorial honoring great men. Good show sir. Wear your wiskers with pride.
Looking forward to Sunday nigjt!!
Thank you for bringing us these amazing presentations!!
Hazah!!!
Great educational fun presentation...thankyou!
Wonderful people to have this great place showcased and the battlefield trust for their tireless effort.
Awesome job everyone! I was in Gettysburg in 1995 and still have chills thinking about all of our brave soldiers who died with such valor.
I drove past you today getting set up overlooking The Lutheran Seminary near the Reynolds Fell Marker. I hope I get to shake your hand while out here the next few days. Awesome stuff.
I love all the licensed guides at gettysburg but Doug is my favorite. Id love to do a tour with him sometime
Nice to hear more about the current preservation of Little Round Top. Would love to hear more details.
Replicas of Warren's field glasses could bring in some good bucks for the museum!
As a member of ABT and a visitor to GNP (just once..so far)...I love this stuff.
Strong Vincent sideburns Gary. And thank you ABT for the great 160th coverage.👍
As usual, great content!
All in all there's slways something new to learn about the Battle of Gettysburg. I've been there five times since my Mom first took me and a cousin there back around 1970. Since then I've become a self taught Military historian/wargamer, (not minatures) maps, chits and computer simulations. Gettysburg is one of the most fascinating battles/campaigns of all of the Civil War battles/campaigns that I've studied over the years. Having the NBT and NPS guides as a resource is something that people who are interested in American military history and the Civil War generally should be eternally grateful for. ALL of you people are a national treasure that can easily bring back to life the chartacters on both sides that used to get lost in the big picture storties about this fight. Keep it up. You are all very appreciated by people at every level of interest in this this battle (and a bunch of other smaller/less well known battles too. Many thanks to all of you!
Gary, Chris’s plug worked, I just ordered your book!
Congratulation 160 year the freedom , wow , gettysburg
I love your videos. I learn so much watching them. My love of history comes from my Dad, who served in the military for almost 28 years. I love the American Revolution and the Civil War the best. I'm proud of my Scots-Irish ancestors raised in the mountains of NC. They were against slavery and joined the Union Army. Two of my great-great uncles and 3 brothers in law all went together and only one made it through the end of the war (though two made it to 1864). Gary, I know what it is like to have Tarheels in the family, and living in Montana, I loved your video on the Little Bighorn Battlefield. You did a great job, and that is not an easy battlefield to explain.
Go with the O’Rourke. Great job as always.
Wow. Just...wow.
Great job everyone….👏🇮🇲
Great Video and Artifacts.....Can't wait to get back to LRT
It's amazing what these treasures can tell us. Glad to see little round top is being cared for. That flag for the battery is just amazing and I was blown away that this was given by the empress of Austria, I believe that had to be the wife of Emperor franz-josef, Elizabeth. Also those field glasses are just amazing and I never seen them and it gave me chills to know that these were in chief engineer Warren's hands that day on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg on Little round top.
Thank you!!!
This is a awesome video seeing these artifacts. Back we're they were used is unbelievable
Thanks to everyone who is helping with this, first class history lessons!!
Gary go with the chops!!
Ed from Lynchburg
I vote for O’Rourke. As someone who always feels like he has never gotten his due, anything that can elevate him and his memory I am for!
A vote for O’Rourke Gary!
Good morning to you from Northampton,Ma.
This is bringing tears to my eyes.
Garry! Do the O’Rourke! Great video guys; as always.
mutton chops for Monday :)
I may not have the Field Glasses but I own the same type of snack tray table you displayed them on.
😂 nice
A site to visit God willing in the near future, hopefully, once re-opens the Hero of the Little Roundtops, Warren, Paddy Orourke, JL Chamberlain Strong Vincent, and Hazlett, wow!
Great video, thank you for sharing!
Excellent presentation ABT - not the "typical" LRT one or, thankfully, no whining about LRT being closed. But rather, Col Dowds explaining Warren's lack of authority to direct troops (I wish the battle map was on-screen longer - but thanks for not "locking the camera" only on the speaker), Chris Gwynn's addition of some of the archaeology involved with the restoration, and Kris White's battle over memory - how "LRT's savior" evolves by generation.
I have a pair of field glasses, similar to Warren's. They were made by a French manufacturer, Chevalier Opticien, Paris. Stamped on both eye pieces.
Hi Garry!
PLEASE do the Strong Vincent facial hair.
We who are from north western Pennsylvania are VERY PROUD of him.
Vincent was actually born in Waterford, Pennsylvania.
Very close to Titusville, PA, where my parents, my siblings and I were born.
Titusville is also the first oil well drilled by Col. Edwin L. Drake, and was the beginnings of Standard Oil via John D. Rockefeller.
In Erie, PA, right on Lake Erie, there is a Strong Vincent High School honoring Vincent.
I have 2 relatives who were in the 83rd PA Vols, under Strong Vincent, fighting on Little Round Top!
All you mostly hear about is the 20th Maine.
The 83rd PA Vols were at the right flank of the 20th Maine and near their "sister" regiment from NY.
Garry, you have a literal 'army'of admirers out here.
So if you can't decide which Civil War person to shave your beard like, you could achieve total tactical surprise by shaving your head and mustache like Ed Bearss.
You are very worthy of it.
Cheers from Md.
Can't wait
The last time I was in the hall of flags in the NYS Capital building, they had so many battle flags that were wrapped in silk and couldn't be unfurled as they were so delicate.
History apogee!!!! Nothing like Gettysburg!
Garry, you could buy a used whisk broom and do the Longstreet from the movie
Garry, I appreciate this video so much. Until I am able to move to the Gettysburg area in a few years I watch your videos to bring Gettysburg to me. I appreciate you and everyone involved. P.S. I vote for O'Rourke's facial hair.
Little Round Top. Was some amazing spot. Been there. The reassembly of the breast works. Is a great day. Doug and Sarah do a nice job. Gary the Abraham Lincoln look would be cool. Aarron the West Point Fifth artillery flag. Is a great artifact. Sorry it’s closed to public. Kris the story about Warren. Was great. The Warren field glasses were awesome. The American Battle Field Trust is just a beautiful organization. Preservation is the best.
O'Rourke would fit you and your hat 😊 Blessings to you all.
Good morning.
Real enjoying watching this, though I have strange question, what was the sound at about 4:52- 4:58. did anyone else notice it?
O'Rourke all the way!
At 4:55 on this video you can hear someone - like a ghost? Maybe there is a reason. Thank you for all your work.
Hey Garry, being from central Illinois, it's gotta be the Lincoln beard
Garry... you GOTTA do the "Robert Gould Shaw" cut. It'd be a good look for ya!
O’Rorke!
this is good.. i like this
I love the psychological effect of hearing Hazlett's Guns! That must have been some boost for the Feds!! And demoralizing to the Rebs!!
Great presentation; at ghostly voice...or something...sounds something like "ah, yeah!"
Great work on the LRT rehab, but they need to get rid of those beavers down in the stream that are making a mosquito heaven in the stream below...
Gary, I vote for Strong Vincent Sideburns
Gary adelman t shirt idea: “Good Good” on the front, “and whatnot” on the back
Love it! GA
Garry....beard looks cool!!
Go with the O'Rourke.
Around the time 4.50 to 5.01 there is a distinct ,back ground whisper on the audio that sounded like someone said awe, yea
At 19:39 another possible EVP saying "WOW".
HAYSLETT HAYSLETT HAYSLETT HAYSLETT GOOD GOOD
✌
Lincoln!
Do the “Burnside” beard
You will have to let us know what it was like to look through those field glasses.
Super super cool and tingly.
+preservingbattlefields *Thanks for a briefing on the Little Round Top fight during structural restoration this site.* 2 July 1863, a Confederate States of America infantry regiment didn't anticipate a U. S. Army counterattack by bayonet charge from the site this vid, Big Round Top, and Devil's Den.
*Addition:* Where can I purchase replicae of Field Glasses of 1860's production, such as used by BGN. Warren?
Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard beard. You got that French Commander suave".
How many artifacts are they finding during reconstruction efforts??
Go with the Burnside/O'Rourke.
My mother's baby sitter was Ella Otis Olanie of Cornelius, Oregon, and later Bremerton Washington. Ella claimed that General Warren was her grandfather. This I have not yet found in the civil records. Anyone who does genealogy well might be able to confirm or deny her statement.
Personally, I can’t believe they left those field glasses perched on a rickety old table like that. Wouldn’t be on that if it was in my charge. Probably best they never let it leave the museum again!
They should bring back Buffalo's to the park
Who said, "oh, wow!" when Battery Guidon was shown?
Watching from South Florida, tho I am originally from Bucktail Country in Pa.
The heading says Doug Doug's. That needs fixed, lads.
Thanks! A lot going on.
Possible EVP at 4:54 saying "ahh yeah".
The smoke...
Maybe someone can realize that the guns and markers were placed by veterans who were There.
👏🇮🇲
Bausch & Lomb
I have never liked the castle on Little Round Top. To me, it's an eyesore.
As a descendent of a Confederate who looked up that hill I can't believe you won't let people up there. How many more years till it's done?
Leave relic hunters alone! Some of the best preserved artifacts are on display due to relic hunters preserving them
Dan Sickles was NOT a Boy Scout! He was, as well, not a member of the West Point “club” as so many other chroniclers of the Battle of Gettysburg are. But he gave Meade the one gift that ensured the Federal victory at Gettysburg….Time.
III Corps engaged Longstreet in a manner that prevented the absolute route of Little Round Top. They made it possible for Colonel Strong Vincent to mount a defense of Meade’s flank “with five minutes, to spare”! For this fearless act and the bravery of III Corps, in general, Sickles is wrongly denigrated by historians.
Not sure I agree that Sickles bought time. What would have Longstreet’s attack looked like, how it developed, if Sickles had stayed in place is hard to say.
What is that??? 4:55 and 4:57!!!!!!!!!! Just listen. You don't even need to turn up the volume. And WHY has no one else mentioned it??
Garry
Next time call someone who knows what to do with the shell when you find it
The Binos are French.
Shave your beard into Chamberlain’s mustache.
WHY ON ONE SIDE OD GLASSES GREENISH AND THE OTHER SIDE BRONZE LOOKING
