    Just like a coin, a country has always two faces. thank you guys, for showing both the pretty and the ugly Colombia has to offer. Let"s hope videos like this bring awareness to the local governments or lack of in the region; So that they can properly guide and educate the populous. I was born in Colombia, I am proud of my country. it is a developing country still, and we have our problems just like the rest of the word. I live in the U.S.A a developed country, and I could be able to show you some pretty scary places here too, there is plenty of poverty everywhere. I find your videos both honest and unbiased. keep up the good work!

      Thank you for your comment and for watching. Yes, we try to show the things the way we see them without judging or comparing. We believe that all these issues are global and there is no one doing things "better" or "worse" than the other, we should consider these issues as issues for us all. Guidance and education is key here and then providing the infrastructure that allows people to solve these issues are super important. We hope that people get the awareness soon on these matters because only we as people can make the change.

    Thanks for posting this. I’ve been living in Cartagena for just over a year and have avoided Playa Blanca and Baru for the reasons you mention - vendors, garbage, overcrowding, simply can’t relax. And the footage you shot demonstrates those concerns. I’ve been spoiled by the beaches of the Philippines, Florida, Thailand, etc, so it would be difficult to bring my beach expectations down. If you want to visit a nice beach in Colombia’s caribbean region, go to Palomino in the region of La Guajira. It’s closer to Santa Marta or a 5-6 hour bus ride from Cartagena. But so so worth it. Thanks again.

Thank you for showing the good and bad and for your mature and level headed reaction to what you experience. Safe travels!

    Thank you so much for sharing! I will be in Cartagena for a few days in three weeks and then headed to Barranquilla anything in particular you guys would recommend ? Clothes to wear? Must go to Restaurants ? TIA

    • @TheWayWeSawIt
      @TheWayWeSawIt  6 років тому +1

      Hi there, thank you for watching. Cartagena is a tropical destination, so clothes to wear accordingly. Comfy shoes in the old town as the streets can be a bit full of holes. We visited the "La Cevicheria" which was a nice restaurant, the "El Santisimo" that was great and the "GastroLab SUR", which is alternative and not glamorous, but the food is good. The Folklore Colombian Coffee is our café recommendation. If you want to spend too much money for a beer, try Café del Mar for sunsets. We did not go to Barranquilla. Hope this helps.

    Some how iI think it deteriorated from when I visited in 2006, in those days could drive a convoy of tanks through the beach and not hit anyone. I guess that is the price of uncontrolled tourism, on the part of the city officials and bad planning as well

    • @TheWayWeSawIt
      @TheWayWeSawIt  6 років тому

      Thank you for watching. Yes, times have changed apparently. Playa Blanca has become a major touristic spot for travellers from Cartagena. It is true that the site is really beautiful but it is quite filled with people.

    Wawww it is a great problem the pollution and garvish in those places and also in Mexico, which are really paradises, but is a shame not to care about that important thing which is the pollution. I like you friends, who take every thing with great philosophy and always you are smiling and enjoying every place! Congratulations!

    • @TheWayWeSawIt
      @TheWayWeSawIt  6 років тому

      Francisco Muñoz Thank you for your kind comment Francisco! Yes, the problem of pollution is getting more and more visible, we hope people will start reacting soon. We try to do our part of taking care of our trash and showing what it looks like when people don’t do it and hope that the consciousness rises...

  • @victorvera4844
    @victorvera4844 6 років тому +7

    Well, to be honest. You did not miss anything by not going to the Baru village. Trust me, the cultural shock would have been way worse from what you saw in Playa Blanca. Baru is really poor, the streets are full of garbage and the town does not even have an aqueduct so houses have to collect rain water in tanks on the rooftops... sad but true.
    Unfortunately, Cartagena (and around) is the place with the largest gap between rich and poor in the whole Colombia. If you stay in the Walled City, Boca Grande or El Laguito, everything looks beautiful. However, once you leave that area, you immediately see all the poverty around and how bad the conditions are for the vast majority of people that live in it.
    What is even sadder is that, instead of doing something to fight these issues, people from Cartagena get offended when they hear critics like those that you guys accurately mention in your video.

    • @TheWayWeSawIt
      @TheWayWeSawIt  6 років тому +3

      Thank you for your comment, good to know we did not miss anything by not going to Baru Village. Cartagena is beautiful indeed and it is really sad that the surroundings are not profiting from the many tourists that visit, it could be a great opportunity to enhance the life of so many people. A real social debate on these issues could be healthy to improve the conditions of everyone...
