Oh my goodness Emma, your words while talking about not wanting the urban sprawl and longing for LESS made me cry. It spoke to me so much and you articulated it so beautifully. I feel exactly the same. I am SO blessed to live in a small town in Maine, USA- a place with natural spaces down the road and wilderness not far away. I sincerely hope that you find your happiness and are able to move away from urban life. (Also, I want that section of your voiceover written down so I can read it and consume it over and over again, like poetry.) “one grows sick on the excess” “give me the grass…the wide open, and the foamy wake, and the whales”. Omg Emma I’m from Newfoundland! I’m so glad you visited, I’m a bit biased but this is a magical place with so much beauty that hasn’t been seen by enough people.
That's probably why it's so magical. Like Narnia, not many people find the door.
I'm sitting here crying over the beauty of this vlog and some things you were saying. I moved to a small irish farm a couple of years ago but at the moment have to go back to germany over the winter (jobwise). People keep telling me that I should be grateful, because there's so much more happening in germany, clubs, theatres, cafes, everyone is always involved in so many projects. And yes, I can appreciate all of it but I don't miss it when I don't have it. My life here in ireland consists of waking up with the birds, being outside all day working on the farm, reading a book, going to bed. Not what most people would find very exciting but to me it is everything ❤
I wish you all the best in your journey of finding such a place for yourself!

The Two Whales was my great grandads house and where my uncle grew up before it was a coffee shop!! We're from Scotland but have been over 3 times since 2019 as we only found out about our Canadian relatives in 2018!! So lovely to hear that you wanted to go. Its a lovely little place!
Not me tearing up at your beautiful words... I grew up in a quiet and small neighbourhood and everytime i have to go back to the city for my studies I just dread it so much, it takes such a toll on you without you even realizing it... anyway back in the city this year again and I am graced with construction work noise from 8am to 6pm, makes me want to scream... so thank you for these 35 minutes of peace and quiet and beautiful landscapes

I visited St. John’s for 10 days in 2018. I had had a rough surgery earlier that year, one which I’ve never recovered fully from. I spent all of my money and flew there from Ireland to stay with a friend and that trip has had such a profound impact on me. It felt for me like the dividing line between fighting sickness and disability, and coming home and settling into and accepting a new way of living, knowing I’d never return to work or a life that feels ‘normal’ again.
Thanks so much for allowing me to revisit. I’m so glad you loved your trip 💙

this just made me cry. especially the scenes with the whales and the appreciation for nature. it was so beautiful. i feel exactly the same as you described and i'm just so scared i'll never be able to escape this feeling of being trapped. trapped by the city and noise and consumption and excess of everything. it's rare to find people who feel the same, most relish in the feeling of endless consuption but for me it's just suffocating. thank you for sharing this and putting into words what i've been longing for for so long now. i swear one day i'll just leave everything behind and settle down in the middle of nowhere. places like these with icy winds, oceans and mountains or on a ranch in the countryside with an endless expanse of meadows, fields, woods and horses. one day...

This video along with what you said bought tears to my eyes and a longing so intense that I could only clutch my heart and hope of a quiet life amidst nature one day. Having lived all my life in the city, such holidays feel like homecoming and going back to the urban life feels so difficult afterwards!

Well done to Emma's Mum for doing all the hikes! Incredible trip. Only thing I knew about Newfoundland (before this vlog) is the 9/11 story of Gander and all the planes landing there. It looks like a magical place.

This is so beautiful! Years ago, I taught Grade 6 Geography. The first unit was Canada. I found a 90-minute DVD that showed every Canadian National Park. Gros Morne was the first park. My students loved it. I taught in an urban school in the American South. Most students had never been outside the city.

This utterly magical video has made me ache for the island i left behind and the community that lives. I also went to Elaine's books 📚 (she's so lovely) and even got screeched in later at Christian's. I am delighted you got to hike different trails and visit other beautiful locations. I was there two weeks ago. I’ve been all over the world, and hands down, Newfoundland is the best place! Next time, be sure to visit Brigus.
Also, very curious. Did you complete the 5 km loop for the trail in Twillingate with the natural arch? We did it, and it was the HARDEST, most stressful hike I've ever done!!! Trail was ambiguously marked and we were worried we missed a fork.

Emma this trip you took to New Foundland was terrific, what an amazing experience. Puffins are such funny birds and appear in Enid Blyton's "The Sea of Adventure", I always loved reading this story because of the puffins the children befriended. New Foundland is so beautiful, I'm dreaming of New Foundland.
