Enjoyed seeing all of your progress on your stitching. Your new start is so pretty. It is different and fun. Have a wonderful Mother's Day. I'm just a cat mom, but they're my babies. Have a good week and can't wait to see you again.
So I finished my April turtle but he only has a head so that I could count over to May. May has a tail though with the few new days 😁. Your new start without the X’s is beautiful and the colors are stunning. Happy stitching this week and Happy Mother’s Day too!
Nice to see you again Sarah and your stitching. Happy Mother's Day to you - it's Mother's Day in Australia this Sunday as well. I'm also working on Hidden Harbour and have made it all the way across the top and all the way down the left side - such gorgeous colours that it's very fun (and quite blocky stitching, and not too much confetti)
You are so talented… love Dragon Ride and how close you are to finishing it and I give you a lot of credit for trying something different - the Azure ornament with all those jessicas are beautiful, but having worked on designs with jessicas, I know how challenging those patterns can be. Yours is looking great!
Hi Sarah I love your WIP's and the mill hill kits are cute. Dragon ride is really looking great. Always look forward to seeing your channel and want to wish you a Happy Mother's Day. Miss Smokey. I have been stitching on my May Monday projects with Dena the half cross stitch and really enjoy working on them. I will be going on vacation to see my granddaughter graduate from High School and to see my grandson play Hockey and I will be checking out a needlework shop called Persnickety Stitches and see what they have. In the meantime Happy Stitching and be safe and kind. God bless Pat
Enjoy your travels to see family! Smokey has been napping during my videos lately and not interested in being disturbed. I'll keep trying to get her to join me, though!
Your new start by Smarty Owl is gorgeous and you got a lot done. Wow!❤ I like Hidden Harboand bought the pattern. Of course who knows when I can get to,it. Lol.
Oh my that new project not cross stitch with the swirly stitching is beautiful. Dragon ride is so gorgeous. I can't wait to see it completed. I can't imagine 35 plus full coverage wips. That would be a ton of floss and fabric. Those mill hill charts we cute is well. Happy mother's day.
I stitch from a master set of DMC, so I don't have all my full coverages kitted up separately. That would indeed be a huge investment of resources. Since for me, it's all about the journey and most of my full coverages don't need to be finished, it wouldn't make sense to earmark resources for them for years on end when they could be used for other things. So, I just need the pattern and fabric and I'm good to go. I also stitch many of them on higher counts, so the pieces of fabric don't need to be very big.
Loving your progress! I did want to warn you that Smarty Owl on etsy does have uncredited patterns from well known Russian designers in her shop. I recognize a number of artists by sight from watching another flosstuber who does a lot of Russian patterns, and recognize a number of others from having browsed MyBobbin a lot. I don't know if the etsy seller has rights to sell the patterns or not, but I thought I should mention it. I have not looked specifically for the piece you are stitching, so I can't say if that one is also a Russian designer. Happy stitching and good luck finishing the Dragon!
Oh, that's too bad! I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for letting me know. I have this one and a different one with these specialty stitches, but I'll probably avoid buying anything else from them.
On your hidden harbor and your cat and heart series do you travel on the cat one when doing looks like wall paper background?. And on hidden when you travel those few stitches alittle away from work to use rest of thread do you cover them with other threads on back with stitching around them?. Thanks
When stitching full coverage, I will definitely carry my thread to new areas, as long as it's not too much more than 1 inch away. I want to be careful with my tension when I carry, so I don't go too far, but the threads will be stitched over, so it's okay. On my Cats and Heart and anything that's not full coverage, I do try to avoid carrying thread too far across unstitched fabric. Sometimes I will if it's just a single stitch here and there with light floss, like snowflakes or something. But if I can, I will try to run my thread along areas that will eventually get stitched over - like in that wallpaper section on the April Cats & Hearts. There was a more straightforward place to carry my thread for some of the colors, but it would have meant carrying thread through an area that would not be stitched over, so I adjusted my tactic and kept the carrying to areas that would be covered up. If something is only 2-3 stitches away, a trick to help keep a carried thread from showing is to make sure it is laying on an angle, then it won't show through the holes, so if I can do that I will. If stitching letters, I will usually carry from letter to letter, but cut off and restart between words (unless it's tiny words that are close together).
I am looking forward to seeing the finish of Dragon Rider, it has been a long journey ! Your Ajour Ornament colours are so much nicer than the chart. Is it hard to get the tension right ?
The tension was a bit tricky on the very large swirls, but generally it wasn't too bad because I was using congress cloth, which is a canvas. It's very stiff and doesn't pull like fabric would. However, I am considering redoing this design at some point on a smaller count, and I would definitely need to put it in a hoop if stitching it on fabric. :)
Sarah, when you (and others) say “one length of thread”, is that 1/8 of a skein of DMC, (or equivalent)? I ask because I bobbinate DMC in 8 equal lengths. Thx. 🌷🌺❤️💕
When I use a length of fancy floss (hand dyed thread), it will often come in pre-cut 1 yard lengths. Since a skein of DMC is 8.7 yards, your method will result in very similar lengths to that. However, when I cut DMC off of my bobbins, I have settled on unwinding 4 feet of thread and I'll either do a loop start for 2 strands or cut 1 strand of it in half for a 1 strand project, so that I'm working with a length that is 2 feet long.

That new start reminds me of that kids game spirograph! Thanks for sharing all your beautiful pieces.
Yes! It reminds me of that, too!
Have a fun week stitching. Happy Mother's Day wishes for you too.

You're welcome! I had fun pulling it out again!

Why not start the May cat and come back to April when you have free time. That way you won't get too far behind.
