Ineguagliabile: mi sento nella Grecia di Saffo
Man, their pronunciation of the letter χ is wayyy off. It never makes the [ʃ] sound, it should be either [kʰ] or [x].
Alright, after more listening, it seems like the soloists are pronouncing it right. The rest of the choir isn't, though.
Yeah, this group is German and they seem to be putting a heavy German accent on the Latin and Greek.
The lack of melody is astounding
Maybe Orff used them all up in Carmina Burana.
But what is melody? Orff was using Gregorian Chant along with Rock rhythms that sound almost like Black Sabbath decades before.
@Zalba : He probably wanted the focus stay on the lyrics and not on the melody, especially in the Old-Greek part. It's a beautiful adaptation of Sappho's poems 💗
It is compensated by an abundance of awesomeness.
Demonstrating that there is more to music than "melody," although there are plenty of sections of this piece that do indeed what traditionally is classified as melody.
