it seems that the existence of people who are different from themselves is just to much for the kind and loving Christians to put up with. Do satanists actually believe in the existence of satan and worship him (in other parts of the world they typically do) or is it more or less out of contempt for Christians? If I were an atheist, I would probably not care about people believing in the existence of God and try to go way out of my way to make a statement about it, I would be too busy trying to get as much fun and pleasure out of my short life as possible!

Jesus went to death of his own free will to justify us and give us life eternal - not to allow us to continue to sin until we die.
As humans becuase of original sin we have inclination to evil.
Nothing we can do can justify us because the place from which we are coming and making decisions and having intentions is intrinsically corrupt.
Only god can make sacrifice which has power to justify us and so he did. He gave himself so that we can live - out of love and because each of us is valuable beyond imagination in his eyes.
God´s mercy has no bounds. But it respects freedom of us humans. No one cannot be forced to choose God or to choose to be justified through blood sacrifice of Jesus. Sometimes its our freedom, but sometimes its our bondage. We may suffer some deep traumas which create deep wounds and our anger with god becomes so strong we no longer want him.
So that´s the reason for the prayer. Free will is sacred - the prayer helps to remove bondage everyone have in one way or another so that they can choose to accept God or reject him truly from their own freedom and not from unhelaed traumas manifesting....
In baptism we are washed with blood sacrifice of Jesus and made spiritually free of both original and personal sins.
But being sinners as we are we keep falling.
So as a christian you cannot sin until you die - you need to collaborate with grace and walk in the way of sanctification.
If you die in the state of unrepented mortal sin - there is no salvation for you no matter you were baptised, no matter you did accept christ.
That´s why we have sacraments - one of them being the sacrament of confession - where through merit of Jesus´sacrifice our confessed sins are again cleansed - not their temporal effects of course.
But for the confession to be valid - you need to have truly contrite heart and be sorry as well as to have will not to fall into that sin again... That´s the path of sanctification. As we are painfully aware that with each sin we commit we nail our lord to the cross again and again and again - literally - since his sacrifice exists outside the time and continues until his second coming..
So he didn´t die so that we can sin - he was tortured and died so that we can live in his presence after our passing. And for that to happen, we cannot die in the state of unrepented mortal sin. We need to accept him over and over every day and reject sin over and over every day.

Although I'm not a Satanist myself and have no desire to become one, I do have tremendous respect for the work they do toward church state separation in this country. I find the amount of power Christian groups give them out of their own ignorance and fear for the existence of a literal Satan that no one but themselves believe is real to be hilarious. In reality everyone in this country should be grateful including Christians for anyone promoting furthering or maintaining the cause of church state separation, as there can be no freedom of religion without freedom from religion. @s Yes separation of church and state is in the constitution but your understanding of it isn't quite complete as it goes way beyond just a persons right to choose their religion. The establishment clause prevents the government from advancing the cause of any religion. Right now one of the biggest dangers facing our great nation is the rise of Christian Nationalism and people who would like no more than to do away with the establishment clause and are working at slowly picking away at it every day. The Satanists are in a great position to suddenly remind these Christian Nationalist types that this part of the constitution exists every time they try to do things like hand out bibles at a school or put up one of their 10 commandment statues.
