My husband of 47 years has broken EVERYTHING we have! I inherited my grandparents beautiful waterfall bedroom suite. It didn’t even have a scratch. He arrived with the furniture in the pickup truck, minus the big round dresser mirror, broken door & drawer fronts, ruined chest, & pieces missing on the bed! 🙄😡 No matter what it is, he breaks it.
You cannot just paint black and expect to LOVE it like that, you must work in different aspects= High gloss, satin and mat...there are also paints from a UK group called culture hustle, they have this ultra black, and the worlds mattest black which makes things seem to disappear (if only they made clothing in that ultra mat black so I could hide this middle fat)...then they also have a black opalescent over coat...so get you basic black going, then try a gloss shine on relief mouldings, then you could try a ultra black or ultra mat black for inbetween mouldings....
Sorry, but black sucks the life out of a room. Ok for black furniture. It can be moved around or easily deleted. Any shade of green would be my choice. It would tie the interior to your beautiful outdoors. That said, love all you have done. P.S. 😊glad you changed the black to green.
The green will be a softer vibe for a bedroom, but oh… having to repaint all that! The armoires are beautiful. Mimi, you have awesome parents. I’m sure they limit your screen time.🐾🐾
Years ago when wallpaper was very popular. When we bought our 1983 traditional ranch brick home. I was told to spend time in a wallpaper store. Choose a pattern that I loved. Not necessarily using that paper, but using the combination of colors. The artists that put those colors together have years of experience. Why not use their expert knowledge! The same goes for decorator magazines. Find out what you love, save them in a notebook. You will easily decide what you really will enjoy this way. The wallpaper I put up is still on my wall, and I still love it. I used the background color for several walls, and made a rectangular room more square. It’s still fabulous!
The cat watching bird videos cracked me up. Hoping for a full recovery. I didn’t hate the black but your decision to repaint is good also. Looks like your vegetable garden was a big success for your dog.😊
Great vlog. I’m so glad you switched to the sage green-much more welcoming and relaxing. So sorry you have more work to do though. It will be gorgeous. Both armoires are stunning. Glad the animals are ok. Mimi is a lucky cat-her very own iPad 😊. Have a good week.
I actually really liked the black. Some black and white Toile de Jouy curtains with black tasseled holdbacks and black-framed art on the walls to draw the eyes upward would be a very sophisticated look!
The tall armoire in the guest room is stunning. Growing up in South Mississippi with French ancestors meant we always had armoire in our homes. I love the connection to the past and always wonder what different clothes were stored in them. Love your chateau!!!
I think the black was elegant. Just needed a little gleam. Satin, wax, something to make it shine. Once furniture, bed linens, pictures, ,etc. were in - it wouldn't have depressed you. However - that color of sage green is a favorite, so - good job. You always do you!
Yes. Could have painted those square things on the wall and put some bright colourful paper in them ie orange red or golden yellow. Then put a similary bright colourfilled bed spread on the bed and curtains on the window. Then a red traditional patterned rug on the floor. It would have made the room masculine and powerfilled There's some rules of proportionately around decorating with colour. So for three colours its something like 60:30:10. I also suggest ypu consider putting colour on ceilings too. Avoid stark vivid white ceilings. In my opinion vivid white ceilings are sheer laziness. After all thats a lot of real estate up there to honour with colour, not ignore. I also agree that painted wood work needs to be,must be glossy. You need to use high gloss water based clear coat with a splash of colour paint in (also water based) to do the final coat over the wood work. Doing this prevents chipping and scratches of the paint colour. If you scrimp on stuff like undercoats, layers and clear coats it just look like poverty rather than elegance and high society. Plus it means you have work harder to maintain it if you dont do it properly the first time. Or you have to redp it sooner than if you do a fine finish the first time.
Glad you changed your mind on the black. Green sounds lovely. Happy news on Mimi and Dominick. I love how the kitties keep close tabs on you all the time. They've clearly had a Kitty Konfer and decided that you require 24/7 supervision for your own safety and well being. Except for Mimi, of course, with her iPad.
Very good decision on the black. Beyond not being very cheery it seems more like a modern day look rather that Chateau period times. You guys are amazingly patient and doing such a gorgeous job. Makes me so wish we would have done this when we were younger!:)
About the black paint.... Either way is ok. When you have over 20 rooms to do the paint becomes unique to each room. Not many people can say " I'll sleep in a different room in my house for the next 30 days." Completetion of the room in order for it to be used is high on the priority list. What do you think about that Lincoln, or maybe you should ask Waffle.😊
One can tell the quality of a person by the way they treat their fur kids- you two are the very best! Good news that Mimi's cancer is treatable- she looks like she is enjoying her retired life indoors, and glad Dominic's results are cancer free. The guest room will look great with all the hard work you have put into it.
You should check out channel “ how to renovate a chateau, without killing your partner”. She discusses paint choices in her chateau… you need to buy samples and paint two coats on a large piece of paper, let dry. Look at it and make sure you love it. I think her new word is make sure it’s subtle! Her chateau is so gorgeous. Also “chateau de la ferte’ are really good to watch fir design help in your chateau. I mean to tell you… your beginning music and drone portion is magical! Good job!
At first I was like you and unsure about the black paint. Then once you put the cabinet in, I thought it could work. It looked fine to me. But you are the homeowner. It’s y’all’s call. I think both pieces of furniture are beautiful. The armoire for the kitchen will look stunning with pretty dinnerware or service pieces. ❤️😊
The black is lovely with gold embellishments, you could add jewel tones ( green velvet with magenta pillows ) in white bedding with lovely white flowers, other soft touches . Vases of whimsical flowers..
So refreshing to get your vlog. Glad you changed the black. Going to be awesome when done. How did you move those amoires? Strong stuff. Glad Mimi feels better. Love the cats and donkeys too. Enjoy your night.
I liked the black but I am sure I will love the color change. I did see how the furniture did not go. I was looking online recently, having to redo a bedroom myself. I came across a white room with a lovely pink ceiling. It was amazing and is very tempting to do. Unfortunately, we do not have high enough ceilings. I have not made the final decision. But it is great being inspired watching you doing the restoration of the bedroom.
So pleased you changed the black was quite harsh on the eyes and masculine. I live alone thank goodness as I burst out laughing seeing your cat watching the birds on the iPad!! Poor Lincoln he tries so hard only to have the paint jobs taken away on the roll of a paint roller! Good vlog.
Hi You have a great taste This black paint is modern, does not reflect the architecture or the style of the chateau, the light green is more suitable. It is an amazing place you have. Much love ❤️
Goodness I would never have thought of bird videos to keep a cat amused. It definitely works. It's easy to drive a tractor, just be sure you want to do those particular jobs. Hours of mowing are boring - in my humble opinion. I did it but was glad to pass the job on when I could. Glad you changed the black, to me it was very severe. Keep well. Best wishes
Mimi has the best life with you! Loved that she has her own iPad and looks very cozy. The black was very dramatic and modern. I feel your pain with paint colors. I recently had my dining room and butler’s pantry painted and as soon as he started painting, I hated it. Made the painter stop and switch colors. It added to the cost but it was the right decision to switch! The sage green will look fabulous in that bedroom❤I look forward to seeing the finished room.
I liked the black in the guest room. I have used black in my last two residences in the US; the dining room in both places were black (eggshell finish). The powder room of the foyer in one house was high gloss black and the master bath in the other house was high gloss black. I plan to use a combination of high gloss black and eggshell black (creating subtle ribbon-esque vertical stripes) in the foyer of my new house in France. It is a tough color to adjust to using and requires multiple coats to get smooth coverage (similar to reds and oranges). With that said, the sage green is also nice and, of course, is a personal preference. The armoires are stunning, good choices. Cheers-
@@nativetexson My Dad was one too. Our morning room (!),growing up had black walls and pale green carpet. His choice. My mother went nuts when she saw it. Need to be brave when you are creative.

I will start with I enjoy your chanel very much. All your hard work and the love you have for all the animals, praying the barn kitty will be ok. Sorry to say not a fan of the black. There are so many lovely colors, why black? Stay well.
So glad you decided to repaint the black. The sage will be so much softer especially for a bedroom. The armoires and the fireplace ladies are gorgeous. Great finds.
Waffle is just the cutest I hope she comes through the cancer treatment ok ❤. The black in the spare room just doesn't work way to heavy look the green is gorgeous and will keep the room light , and a calm colour good idea changing it . Furniture is gorgeous.
I know that feeling when choosing paint colors. Great choice in the end. I’m so happy Mimi’s prognosis is good. She deserves a comfy, happy life. And her watching videos - the cutest thing ever!! I’m looking forward to all you renovation progress! Good luck!
Oh, and a high gloss black paint! Not flat .. France is full of lovely gold light fixtures, also gold door knobs other strong accessories but gentle fabrics like white airy linen drapes with gold and black tassels
Black would be OK with blk furniture etc....more modern look. But in keeping with the Chateau, sage green would create a more warm inviting space for sure. Happy to hear the animals are ok and watching bird videos while recovering? Priceless! 😂
Black furniture and black lamp shades. Black onyx fireplace are all excellent choices, but black walls are not so good because it does suck the light out of the room; unless you have lots and lots of windows.
Nice andirons! For a splash of black I'd buy an ugly-ish (cheap) armoire to paint black. Could be sensational with a wild color interior. Congrats on your progress. As for the black, I know you could have pulled it off. Turned out to be more of a time issue imo. Sage green you can do up with your eyes closed.
Thank goodness you changed the colour to sage green it,s very calming. I love the furniture as for the cat watching birds on the ipad ....I have seen it all😂 so happy both the cat and donkey will be OK.
de nieuwe kleur is veel beter het zwart was te strak en te modern nu word het een warme tint wat gezelligheid uitstraalt,uw katten zijn echt gelukkig in het kasteel zo rondrennen heerlijk en ze worden goed verzorgd
Your two armoires are just gorgeous, and I'm SOOOOOOO happy you went with the green instead of the black. It goes with the wood on the armoire so much better. I know you've heard it before, but I love the gentleness you extend toward your animals. It's really lovely to see. DA - Vancouver, WA USA
AAAwww Your fur babies are so very lucky to have you, kind and caring. I just love chateau videos, I can enjoy the room restorations and decorating without doing a moments work. LOL Things are looking grand.
My favourite Chateau by far and coupling cannot wait to see you bursting out first in the morning. Love your taste Amanda not forgetting the furkids. Love love it. And the Antiques. THANK YOU NEVER BORING .
I did like the black. It could have come together as you dressed the room, but the sage will be lovely and give you more options. Love the andirons and armories. Beautiful!
Pleased you decided black didn't work I felt it looked oppress, not welcoming and too urban. I think the sage green will be beautiful and echo our lovely views. Glad to hear the prognosis for Dominicand Mimi is good, you are so caring it warms my ♥. Love your antique purchases.
I was watching your latest vlog while having my breakfast (as I do) and my husband came in and watched a few minutes just as you were discussing your unhappiness with the guestroom colour. As a kitchen manufacturer and designer of many many years, he felt that in his opinion it was the matt quality of the black paint that was giving you the unhappy's and that it needed to be painted in a "gloss". I do not know. I am sure everyone will have an opinion and the sage green you have now gone with is very lovely. I think that black was a very daring colour and very brave of you to attempt it and good on you for having a go. Personally, I would have chosen navy or dark blue, but this is what it is all about, getting to see what other people would do and choose. Maybe the black would have looked fine, in the "finished" room you know, full of furniture and bedding, etc to soften it up. The French wardrobes (had trouble spelling the A word) are stunning! Oh to have access to such wonderful pieces of furniture.
Truly a beautiful chateau. Great news on the cat and donkey. I had a good chuckle seeing the cat watching the bird videos. I cannot wait to see the room at its final reveal. The armoire’s were absolutely stunning, I too loved all the detailing.
I didn't initially like the black but after you had 2 coats I thought it looked good, very elegant. I painted a dresser black once & thought it needed more depth so I added a black stain as a top coat. That did the trick. Also, the room looked a little too shocking with just the black & white but after adding furniture, accessories, & fabrics i think it think it would have looked more complete. The sage is fine too but I see a lot of it in many chateaux so I do get tired of it. I would leave the sage though & try the black in another room or a cottage. It is your chateau though so what you like best is what counts. Love the armoires & really love the log irons!
I agree about changing the black too. I think the sage green will work better. Nice armoire. Happy to hear the animals will be OK. Must be huge relief.

Love Mimi’s video. I had a finch and trained her to come back to her cage by giving her finch videos to watch. It was so cute!
Their kitchen is almost a whiteout. Colour is tricky to get right but needs to be in my life.
These chateau owners have the best decor ideas. Good enough to advise the others I'd say though it's not exactly a race.

Love the end irons!! I actually liked the black panels.
Light pastels, ivory white, and gold were the predominant colours, and Rococo decorators frequently used mirrors to enhance the sense of open space.

Maybe the black would have looked fine, in the "finished" room you know, full of furniture and bedding, etc to soften it up. The French wardrobes (had trouble spelling the A word) are stunning! Oh to have access to such wonderful pieces of furniture.
Not a fan of the black. So glad you changed and it'll look so much better.
Chinoiserie goes well with black lacquer/gloss.
It you add grey and green in the decorating, I think it will look well with the black.
good choice on the colour change, the green will be timeless thanks
I feel your pain on changing colors in the middle of a project. Also, thanks for keeping us updated on the animals.
Those armoires are just incredible…….and yes……turning the black into green is a perfect solution❤
Beautiful armoire for kitchen. Your dishes will look amazing behind the glass. You are so fortunate to find these treasures.
Truly a beautiful chateau. Great news on the cat and donkey. I had a good chuckle seeing the cat watching the bird videos. I cannot wait to see the room at its final reveal. The armoire’s were absolutely stunning, I too loved all the detailing.
I think the black would have worked well if you tied it in with other placement in the room, saying that green is very nice and so safe.
