Great project Patrick, this will really come in handy.
Well done!
Those sanding disks aren't self adhesive?
John Heisz OMG I LOVE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great project and video Patrick, makes me want a sanding disk and a lathe!
That sander is going to come in real handy, nice project Patrick.
Well Done!
Well, that's awesome Patrick! Well, can't wait to see the platform. Well, I have a motor I could use to make one of those too. LOL, that's a cool project man. I like the thread tapping thingy. Good video too!
Those wooden threads look great! A nice way to have multiple lathe jigs without expensive face plates!
Looks really good Pat. Patrick's work shop Very well balanced! Hey I like the new logo too.
Very nice! You've got yourself a great sanding tool now. No doubt you'll gets tons of use out of it. Great build, Patrick.

Have you done your geneaology? You might have some oil in your family - you keep saying well, so.... you know, maybe from drilling wells? Sorry, stupid joke - couldn't resist.

Great build Patrick! I love that custom parting tool. I need to get one of those!
Patrick's work shop
You're just full of great ideas!
Good job Patrick
Nice! Good stuff!
Dude! Awesome. I'm making one of these right now!
thats Awesome James . its very useful to use the lathe for multiple jobs
Enclosure worked out very well. bored hole in lower side facing me for vacuum. Like your Lazy Susan on the planer ad the holder for the Titebond.
Brilliant! Stick a scrapwood table in front and your all set for segmented projects! I want to do segments too, so that one is in the bucket list!!
Neat Patrick, and the custom parting tool was awesome lol, Can't wait to see the table you make for it, that will come in handy, Thanks for sharing
I have the same lathe and built a very similar sanding disc, works awesome! Mine is also made from MDF.
www.bostonwoodturning.com
I did that same thing. I took one step above and made a flat surface that goes in the tool rest. Remind me next hang out ill show you.
Cool way to multipurpose your lathe.
Try soaking those threads in thin CA glue. After CA dries run the tap in again to clean the threads a bit. They'll be much stronger.
Cheers
That's just Cool. This will make my small shop seem big with all the room I'm gonna have. Thanks Man
Matt
Just what I need. Great job mate. Subbing right now 👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome. That will be a highly used piece I bet.
Nicely done :)
You could make a little coweling around it for dust collection.
Thanks for the video. I looking for EVERY good youtube channel to help me as I get into woodworking. I've done home improvement projects over the years, but never considered myself a woodworker. I intend to change that!
Anyway, cool project. I just wish I had a LATHE! lol... it's always gonna be something!
Ya i am DEFINITELY gonna make one of these! Great idea Patrick.
You keep saying 'well'. I keep saying 'OK' lol
Will chat soon. I have one more night shift Monday before 4 days off
Cheers Bud :)
thank you for this vid...im making a disc of my own right now.
im with Linn on that one mate ... got to get me a wood lathe then make me a sanding disk lol nice job man
Thanks. wondering what to do with the head stock of an old Harbor Freight lathe. Now to find the time to make one.
Patrick Your video answered my problem . I have been wanting a disk sander and just couldn't put the cash away for it . Now I will build this disk sander .. Say hello to ICE or me .. Good Dog ... Thanks Patrick.
You kept saying well because that came out rather well, wish I had a lathe.
Cool stuff man, LOVE the lazy Susan with the planner :P
I'm going to have to mod a scrapper and make it a parting tool as well!
You got tons of great ideas man! Thanks for sharing
Awesome! This is exactly what I built for my lathe. I found the MDF was the most stable, too.
Nice work Patrick, I didn't see this before :)
That's a great idea, i bet that'll really come in handy for larger segmented stuff. I just posted my first video of a segmented bangle I made for the 2014 bangle bowl. It was the first time I've done any segmented turning and it was a lot of fun. I've got the same lathe as you and was wondering what kind of tool rest that is? The stock one seems like it's too rough and the tools drag on it.
hello would be nice if the translation in Spanish gracias.
cool project
eccentric sanding surface may be better
Nice addition to Valade. Can't wait for the segmented bowl to come. Nice video Patrick!!!
Yes sorry for the spellcheck error. "Valade" should have been "the lathe"
you cant beleave how much I learn from these videos thank you so much
iv been looking for books on patterns and priceing some tools just to get started with , in my town they don't have woodworking classes anywhere so iv got to do my on self tot ,, so again thanks and keep making the videos
Like how it was Built, One thing I would have don to add a little safety in it, I know it is all wood construction, I would drill Three 3/8" hole completely throe and glued 3/8" wood dowels. This should not brake the all wood role.
+Leonard Machado thats a good idea thanks for commenting and watching
Great idea, I have the same lathe and I too will be making myself a 12 inch sanding disc to add to it and I look forward to your platform video. For those wondering this is a great lathe, I got if for under $200 with coupons and Harbor Freight and I have turned dozens of pens and other projects without issues. You get a large variable speed (without moving belts) lathe with a turnable head for a very good price, if you have room for it I highly recommend this lathe.
Cool idea Patrick, nice video.
I did the exact same thing with my lathe but I used a metal faceplate. Speaking from my own experience, you might want to consider a metal faceplate because you will be taking it off and on alot... the threads will be more durable than the wooden ones. But definitely worth doing if you already have the lathe.
On a side note, what do you think of that lathe? I noticed it is a Central Machinery (Harbor Freight) and I was wondering if it is any good.
CA glue coated threads? Im intrigued, where did you get the idea for that?
Your planer on a rotating base, awesome! The disc sander build is cool too.
As for the lathe ,I just fabricated one from a drill and the scrap wood pile,, got the job done, just
Welp! I made one exactly the same except I used a solid piece for the hub, that was a mistake as it doesn't stay perfectly true. Next one will have a built up hub like yours.
Pretty nice. I have a harbor freight inside track memeber coupon for a 12" disk sander.
For $119. if its not as nice as id like I will just make this for my lathe.
yeah I was looking at that 12 inch sander and it looks good , I really don't have the space to add another benchtop tool so turning my lathe to a sander when I need one is the way for me in my small shop thanks for watching 👍
I did end up making a 12 inch lathe faceplate with a 12 inch round sticky sander stuck on it. Its fine. hogs pretty good.
Saved me $110 bucks. cost like $6 to make instead.
that's a cool job Patrick ........................
If you use a rolling paper as a spacer between your band and your rollers during adjustment. cool videos keep'em coming.
Awesome - laughed out loud - "Why do i keep saying well?!?" really cool how i could not tell you had started the lathe after putting the sanding disc on.
Very creative!!! Might just make one myself if you don't mind me borrowing your idea.
Thank You!
Just found your channel through Carl Jacobsons channel. Cool videos and projects so I subscribed!
Good job Patrick. Very useful too.
Awesome sanding disc Patrick, nice use of scrap materials.
Your a bit of a goof ball!!!
But my wife & I enjoyed your vid & build.
Nicely executed project.
Pat nice build - mine is 9/78 as I have the smaller HF lathe - heat gun for removal is a good tip - I'm keeping that one
thank you for this video. I will have to build this for my lathe
Well... Well, that was a great video Patrick. Stay well and, uh, well later dude.
Great project Patrick! like to see what's up in your sleeve in your next project.
Well done.
Very cool!
Nice one, that will do for me.
Great sander was looking to build one and was thinking of getting a motor, as I already have a lathe I guess I don't need one any more! thanks for sharing.
good video, you don't waste time .
Great video's Patrick you do an outstanding job. Keep up the great work.
Hi Patrick,
Could you tell me where you got your tap from as all the tap & dia sets i have been able to find are too small.
Doing the same thing but trying to make it enclosed to control dust.
Nice build Patrick. I built the same thing about a month ago. I also made a table that sits on the bed of the lathe. Works great. Thanks
If I could afford a lathe, i definitely could afford to buy a disc sander..........
I thought the same... turns out a 12" disc sander cost twice as much as my lathe.
Nice job!
greate idea thanks for share it
Well done Patrick
8:22 hey Patrick, I have not found any segmented turning videos on your channel. I would love to see you do some
hey Lenny i have some planned soon im working on my table saw stuff at the moment i hope to get back to turning near the end of summer thanks for watching
Great project Patrick!
Excellent idea to get a tap that matches your lathe threads. I will need to get one for my lathe.
normally the sand paper you have has a clear sticker on the back that you have to take off and under that it is sticky so you can stick it to things
hey Jim yes the disc has a sticky side but not sticky enough for me i like to add some contact spray to it for a better stick it comes right of with a heat gun when its time to change
Nicely done!👍
Yeah, that Titebond III is the best wood-glue I have ever used.
great build patrick and loved the planer on the rotating base
Great jog! I'm sure you'll get a lot of good use out of it! Thanks for the video.
אני רוצה לראות אותך בונה בלי מכרתה עץ
That was a great idea Patrick. I look forward to seeing the segmented turnings.
I used a Harbor Freight lathe a LOT for 5 years b4 it started slipping, ( more than I could fix with a belt change ) , for the money, if I buy another it will be the same thing !
I've changed my belt once to a 3L240 from napa its a bit wider than the stock belt and seems to grab so much better give that a shot, mine it has worked great so far ,but its true the HF Lathe is a total beginners lathe and one day I wanna upgrade to a go766- but for now, I don't use the lathe enough to justify the cost so someday I'll have a real boy lathe but until then this ol HF one will do fine for me thanks for watching
Anything less than the best HF are junk but the one you use is almost identical to ones Grizzly used to sell, Delta, Shop Fox, and THEY are twice the $ .@@Patricksworkshop
Never seen a bowl gouge used like that before! Lol good vid
brilliant...
Well done!
Ingenious
good tip
I like
COOL !
Thanks for sharing Patrick, nice work.
Rock-n H woodshop sent great vids
Well, theres a nice sander! Nice work! Thanks!
thank you for show... what brand of lathe ?
Классно!
like it too, quite simple and perfect.
Well......good build, nicely done.
Great project Patrice! Keep them coming.
Great idea! Saves a lot of bench space, too.
-Scott
i like this one , nice job dude !
+Ashley thanks for watching
like the video, I'm making one now.
