Such a great idea and execution man! I guess I have no choice but to get a lathe now...
Do it haha! Thanks for the kind words Ethan ❤️
Brian, this was an excellent video. Importantly, you spoke clearly and your pace was just right. Did you consider using MDF for the desk instead of plywood? It’s always dead flat.
Such kind words! I did consider MDF, I just didn't have any on-hand at the time. I'm looking into making a belt sander for the lathe next, and I'll keep MDF in mind for the drums and plate!
That turned out great, Brian! I like how you just used the actual disc to face off the box/platform to get it nice and even. You'll get a ton of use out of that.
Thanks Bruce. I figured that was the best way to get an even gap (not sure if that's incredibly necessary though).
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your feedback!
Nice job! A little surprised you didn't use the lathe to make the sanding disk round in the first place vs. the router. I'm going to make something similar this weekend hopefully
Thanks! I guess I didn’t include it in the video, but I did end up making the disc perfectly concentric on the lathe before installing the paper. I would love to see what you come up with! Share photos or video - I am @bikecitywoodworks on Instagram
Nice man! Looks great, good video.
Thanks Michael!
Great project, thanks
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your comment.
LATHE AF
So AF!!
What an horrifying idea ! You're gonna get a bunch of abrasive on the track of your lathe, and soon ruin it.
What am I missing? This isn't like a metalworking lathe, there is no carriage that constantly moves back and forth, which is generally the concern with abrasives. Any loose abrasive works its way into the box under the table anyway, and not out onto the tracks.
I clean the ways around once a week, too.
A solution to that and dust is to add a dust collection port to the box. Besides, many people sand spindles and bowls above the ways any way ... so there is typically already some grit to deal with, I blow off the ways after every use to keep green wood shavings from rusting the ways. Nice project!
@@blueridger did you watch the hole video? He did include a dust port. Grit won’t be an issue.
