Thanks! I will probably need this later this week as my belt snapped or jumped out of its spot! (Haven't checked close enough yet. Besides I will probably do the whole set anyway)
I am a mobile mechanic and often carry out repairs at people's home or their work and videos like these are invaluable for added reference so it would have been helpful if you had sketched the route of the belt on a piece of paper. Nevertheless thanking you for your video. keep up the good job.
How do I tighten it up only my belt came off coz went into a puddle. Got new belt so when I put it on how do I do the adjustment if I’m not replaced it like putting the pin in. Do I just turn the bottom bolt
Hei Dave, what is that ticking noise that it makes? It sounds a bit unnatural and kinda sounds like the ticking noise that a bike makes when coasting (not pedaling).
No wouldn't have thought so more likely battery getting tired of it's getting on in age or could be alternator, you need to check your getting 14 volts going into battery with engine running with light and heater fan on.
Have bookmarked this tutorial ready for mine - I've noticed my belt has lots of tiny cracks/splits in the grooves which is worrying - it was done 3 years ago last. Also would changing the fuel filter be a matter of just swapping it out and catching the fuel or do I need to do anything else? Do I need to fill it or just replace with the new one without worrying about the air inside? Thanks, Jon
Dan Jardine I have checked in the Haynes manual which recommends that the belt is inspected or replaced every 4 years, the vehicle in the video was just coming up to 5 years old and had 83k on the clock at the time. I had already checked the belt weeks before replacing it and it looked fine to me, I was more concerned with the tensioner and pulleys as I had a squeak on the car when the engine was hot which sounded like a dry bearing so this is why if fitted the kit.I have since found that the squeak is coming from the water pump. On inspection of the old removed pulleys and tenisoner I would have probably been ok to have left them on the car and they could have lasted another 10-15k, on the other hand when either the drive belt snaps or the tensioner fails you are dead on the side of the road and the only way home is on the back of a recovery vehicle.
Thanks for your help and looking into the Haynes...reason I ask is my 2009 118d (N47) 117,000 miles has never had it changed I'm led to believe, no squeaks or anything from engine area, I inspected the belt all running fine...there are some tiny cracks on parts, but nothing major...I am reluctant to change it until there is some untoward noises from the engine...
Thank you so much mate for a great tutorial . You got straight into it . My BMW 116D SPORT is making a constant sqeaking noise. A mechanic of told me it's a tensioner problem. Just to make ,mate , does a tensioner make a squeaky noise?
Hello Dave, I've got a sha sha sha ... sound coming from the front, alternator side of the engine, would you suspect that I need a new tensioner/belt kit fitted?
@@broony2800 Some time ago now. as I remember, I replaced the tensioner and belt. PS. not because the belt was worn, just good practice. Good luck with yours.
davej333 it's cool, I have the Haynes manual and thought it would be stated in there but it wasn't to my surprise. Just did the job today myself, took me all in all about an hour. I found an online manual which stated 19Nm which seems about right so I just did it to that. Will keep an eye on it to see if anything gets loose. Just took my BMW for a test drive. She feels amazing, better than before. Thanks for the video again! Happy days 💪🏻
A greeting from Spain has served me with great help
Thanks!

Just wondering why you decided to change the aux belt and kit?
Tightening torques?
My 120d has an oil cooler attached to the bottom of the fan housing. Not as easy as shown here.

For the crankshaft pulley, where you get a holding tool to remove the crankshaft?
Didn't remove crank shaft pulley.
Thank you for this video! I'm going to try it myself now :D

Absolutely superb video, how you managed to get the camera so close to what you're doing AND do the work!?! :-)
Thank you so much for saving the money
Great tutorial! When would you suggest intervals for this kind of job? It is not stated in any schedule...

Yes it could be if the bearing is dry or on way out it can be very noisy, you could try running it with belt removed to see if squeak goes away.
Thank you for getting back and for the advice . Much appreciated, mate .
Can belt make bmw battery low ?

Hello Dave, I've got a sha sha sha ... sound coming from the front, alternator side of the engine, would you suspect that I need a new tensioner/belt kit fitted?
Did you get to the bottom of your sha sha sha sound? My 318d N47 has started making that noise and it’s driving me nuts!

Question, what are the tightening torques please?
James Spectre Sorry no longer have the BMW or the Haynes manual.

Great video, but is it me or is that belt not upside down 😅
Why don't you just replace the pulleys only instead of the entire tensioner?
