- The ANC National Executive Committee has committed to pursue the formation of a government of national unity (GNU).
The decision was revealed by ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa last night, after a marathon meeting held in Boksburg Thursday.
The ANC National Executive Committee met to charter the way forward after the party failed to secure a majority vote in the May general elections.
To unpack this, we are joined on Zoom by SARChI Chair of African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the University of Johannesburg Professor Chris Landsberg.

There's no need for the professor or his co-writer to pat himself on his back. I started a conversation about a GNU being better than a coalition government on News24 comments. Lits of responses in favour. And that was a week before the esteemed academics wrote their piece.

The "unity" concerns should be within the party itself - not with other parties.
My suggestion was that a GNU could resolve the issue of squabbling and ongoing alienation by some or other party by offering a power sharing alternative that could help towards mature politics. Journos and academics quickly running to claim ownership of an idea put oyt there and discussed by ordinary people who do not get paid for their intellectual contributions.

We considered the markets and "stability" in 1994 and we were rewarded with a long stable bout of poverty and "the highest unemployment rate in the known universe."😊
In hindsight this is an easy comment to make. Remember a few years prior the USSR had collapsed and the PRC was liberalising trade.
So the dominant thought Re governance economic management was liberalism.
Now it's different, markets are still a factor but I think politically, things can be reorientated to help address unemployment and build up infrastructure
The ANC and BRICS are opening up South Africa's economy to include the black business and farmers but you listen to formations that have been funded to bring regime change so that the ANC plan is thwarted

The patriachal attitude of the DA is reprehensible. Hindsight reveals their support base has had it better than others over the last 30 years and their headstart retained by way of sunset clauses has resulted in an even wider wealth gap. That's not true on EFF side , Malema was clear, it was not his responsibility to remove Ramaphosa. EFF currently does not have a demand that Ramaphosa must step down.
