Eric Lamb Personally, I don't "hate" them (way worse out there for sure), but they certainly aren't brilliant. That song about being a rock star is a good example of their lyrical talents. "We'll all stay skinny cause we JUST WON"T eat".
"Just won't" lingers on, and it's unnecessary filler used just to make shit rhyme. People generally don't like disingenuous lyrics when listening to a song, and that's most likely why most people don't like them.
You can totally tell when they wrote it, they were like:
"What rhymes with cheap?
Uhhh eat? I mean, not really, but it'll work as a slant rhyme.
I also have to get good timing. How about "because we won't eat"? Nah, still not enough words.
How about adding "just won't" eat, and cutting because down to "cause"?

I know it may seem trivial, but that's how their music reads. Just a guy trying to make shit rhyme. If it's sincere, it wouldn't read like a highscool kid who had to write a poem for an assignment.
CrabJock True, but that is just one song by them. You've got stuff like Photograph, Lullaby, Someday, etc. that's actually pretty good. So maybe they had one off day and that song wasn't all thought out.
Eric Lamb Look what bothers me the most is that they are talented. Yes they are, but they don't use it. Instead they make generic songs instead of master pieces.
Eric Lamb Well Photograph isn't that good either, this is a part from the lyrics "Kim's the first girl I kissed I was so nervous that I nearly missed" Anyone can write better than this. Granted they make catchy songs but all nickelback songs sound somewhat the same. You honestly can't sing along to nickelback songs, since that would probably damage your brain.

I have been a fan of Nickleback since I was in Elementary. I never met anyone who hated them until high school; kids kept dissing the band all over the place and I have NO idea why! The songs have been a inspiration for me and kept me happy when dad was at war. He even send a music video of a Nickleback song that had a slide show of pictures of him at camp.

I feel like I'm the only person who liked Nickelback, at least from their early days.
They had some cool inspirational songs and a metal sound that kept Rock music alive for a few more years before it officially died.

You might not like their music, thats fine, I don't give two shits if you like their music or not. You can dislike them as an artist because of their work. But if you directly hate them as a person then you need some help because you don't know the first thing about that person.

I've never understood the hate for Nickelback. I've enjoyed their music for years. Hell I'll go as far as to say that I enjoy them more than most of the "beloved" rock bands out there.

Their music doesn't sound like it comes from their hearts, and music that doesn't come from the heart isn't genuine in my eyes. When I hear their music, I just don't get the feeling that they put their soul into their music... I feel like they put their wallets into it instead, and a band that just does it for the money is not a true musician. In fact, I am almost certain that corporate big-wigs write most, if not all of their music with the idea that the material they write will make them money. That is why I don't like them.
I don't know if this speaks for most people, but it speaks for me. I also hope you understand from at least one person's perspective. :-)

Honestly that's the case with most bands and artists. I also feel like some of the more emotional songs they do, the ones not focused on sex, are more genuine than the others. Anyway I can understand and respect your viewpoint. Doesn't mean I agree though. :P
