I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again: Chevy Chase got fired from Community for behaving like… Chevy Chase.
Two actors who I never heard one positive word about.. Jerry Lewis and Chevy Chase. At least Lewis had talent. Chase was a one trick pony with that low rent Gerald Ford impression. Never thought he was funny at all.

@@Three_Random_Words Yes, I saw some of these actresses interviewed. Even the producers told the girls what to expect if working with Jerry. One girl told him to go pound sand and he then told everyone on the set if anyone was seen speaking to her, they would be fired. A real prince of a guy.
@@frogger1952 His MD telethons in hindsight now seem narcissistic, he seemed joyless too - I like to think it was the stress of knowing that he could be outed and exposed at any time, alas it was too late though.

Being a method actor doesn’t make it ok to be an asshole
I think it's more of an excuse, that or he thinks he's the next Daniel Day Lewis.
It’s an excuse to be a jerk. To quote Robert Patterson, no one walks around being really lovely to everyone and is like yeah I’m so deep in this method right now. (Said in a interview with Jennifer Lopez).
I feel that it's usually an excuse for acting like a jerk and being rude to others.Some years ago I worked in an art studio and one of my coworkers was a " method actress". I used to try to be friendly and say good morning but she always ignored me. Everyone else was friendly enough. I finally asked my bosses wife what her problem was and was told she is " a method actress" which did not impress me.

Well if your character is an asshole it does, actually. Sasha Baron Cohen when he did Borat did not break character in being an obnoxious funnyman. And Anthony Hopkins I once read implied that being cast as Dr. Hannibal Lecter made his relationship/marriage difficult, as he played the part so well (I'm not sure if he was in character during the shooting, and for his partner's sake I guess he was not literally in character).
Dusting Hoffman and method actors in general: on the set of Marathon Man, having observed Hoffman's obsessive method techniques, a fed up Sir Laurence Olivier asked, "My dear boy, why don't you just try acting?"
Misleading. Hoffman was a better screen actor than Olivier. The comment was a joke from Lawrence to Dustin because Dustin was starving himself for a scene and not sleeping. That hardly makes him difficult to work with and Oliver got along with him fine Method actors are not difficult to work with. The media versian of a methos actor would be but not the real thing.

He himself admitted that he was not that good in the film. He was stiff as a plank in The Prince and the Showgirl and was outclassed by Marilan Monroe. You are the ignorent one. And trying to pretend that you know what you are talking about only makes you look more so. Ray Winstone and Daniel Day Lewis have both pointed out that Olivia knew less about acting than Dustin Hoffman. On Parkinson, DDL says as much.

All of the other 29 actors combined could not stand the madness of Klaus Kinski.
At least two different directors threatened to murder Kinski. The guy was on another level of "difficult."
He seemed to require a great amount of special comprehension and understanding.

@@bryanprillwitz2394 I was slightly wrong. The second was actually a producer referenced by the director David Schmoeller, who directed Kinski in "Crawlspace," and said a producer hoped to kill him for his insurance money.

I had an interview to work in development at his production company. The interviewer immediately told me that I was Segals type and that he would likely sexually harass me if I took the job. I didn’t, and the interviewer actually ended up hooking me up with another job!
Putting Christian Bale above people like Steven Segal, Jared Leto, and Klaus Kinski (who sexually abused his children, threatened to murder numerous extras and co-stars on various sets, etc.) is insane.
Yeah, when Val Kilmer was that high on the list, I knew it wasn't in order of worst to not worst.
I find it so ironic how both Joan Crawford and Faye Dunaway were on the list considering Faye played Joan in Mommy Dearest. Almost like it was hinting at something there with the casting.
Also, Bette Davis is a witness to both.

Lot of exaggerations on this videos. I watched a well researched video essay on the rivalry between Crawford and Davis by BeKindRewind. The rivalry and hate was mostly a misogynistic stereotype invented by the press to sell copies and generate attention. They certainly weren’t friends and probably didn’t particularly like each other but their typical roles didn’t overlap so not even reason for rivalry.
If that’s an indication of the reliability of the rest of this video it must be at least half cr*p. I’ll flag the channel as “I am not interested”
@@pansepot1490 True. The narrative that's been pushed is that they were bitter rivals for 40 years. The truth is that they hardly knew one another until they made "... Baby Jane" together where they didn't get along. It was Crawford who took the script to Warner Bros. Studio and suggested Davis for the other role. She would hardly have done so if she'd hated her for decades.
Why is this tolerated when there's literally a thousand actors that could replace any one of these people!?🤯

Chevy got banned from hosting but appearences apparently are okay.
I've heard BM and CC are friends now, even though a sucker punch was thrown back during the first cast of SNL. They should make a movie together, if a dumb enough director and producers can be found.

I read somewhere that Jennifer Lopez doesn't "allow" anyone to look her in the eyes. She thinks she's above them so they shouldn't look her in the eyes. I was always taught it was rude not to look someone in the eye when talking to them. It's amazing how narcissistic and entitled some people truly are.

Chris Pine shot a movie in my old town and part of it was in a restaurant. They used the actual staff as extras. The cook is a family friend and he looked Pine in the eye at one point and Pine called a crew member over and spoke to him.
The crew member approached our friend and told him not to look Pine in the eye. He didn't say why.
It was kind of hard not to look at him the way the restaurant was set up and to do their job on the movie like they did in real life.

He sabotaged the production... as he always did. Pretty horrible actor who was always too much trouble and he deliberately refused to learn the text and read from cue cards, only to his fanboys to say how genius it was ffs.
I heard so many Horror stories about working with Chevy Chase.

He's made a few good movies but not for a long time. Under Siege got high ratings from critics and had huge ticket sales and its still rated as one of the best 90s action movies. He aged like milk both as an actor, a martial artist, and a person though.

Daniel Day-Lewis method-acted In "Lincoln," certainly in the role of a very virtuous character.
Oooor they still do but no one talks about it. People love to complain. When someone is just nice everyone just takes it in stride.
I had to stop the video after Seagal because I had to write this. Absolutely true about him. Worked on Code of Honor for three days as an extra. He asked if there were horses behind him because an extra had on high heel shoes (it was a club scene), he really didn't do any of the action scenes, he was there just to do dialogue and one of the worst parts is that two people had to hold up giant cue cards for him to read off of. Like he's so busy in his life that he can't memorize any lines 🙄🙄🙄

I agree. Talent was a missing criterium throughout much of this video. In cases like Segal, people are aware that acting talent maybe was an issue. Must we rub it in? He could kill you with your own nose cartilage. Plus people in the business know who you are, in case you want to work again.
I watch a channel called Space Ice and is clearly that the one who do the fights is someone much thinner than him.

Leonard Nimoy was probably the only former cast member who had the patience to tolerate William Shatner cause everybody else stated how they felt about him.
There is a story about Nimoy and Shatner on Star Trek and how Shatner got mad because Nimoy bought his own photographer and Shatner demanded one. The director was walking back and forth between their dressing rooms trying to get them to settle down and come to work.
They must of made up somewhere, Shatner had a short lived talk show and Nimoy was a guest.

I'm guessing the main reason January Jones hasn't become a star is that she's a bad actor. Her acting worked for Mad Men because she's supposed to be repressed and uptight. But in other roles, she's been painfully stiff and wooden.
Every scene in Mad Men with her in it, except when she confronts Don about the box she found in his desk, was completely uninteresting. There is a rumor going around that she deployed the reverse casting couch method. She would meet with a director and tell him if she doesn't get the part, she would publicly announce that the director tried to screw her. Word got out fast and no one would even take a meeting with her. A real genius this one.
Plus she has a stripper name.

Kinski was an actual psychopath, or at least borderline. It's astounding he wasn't at the top of the list.
Kinski was genuinely mentally ill. He had schizophrenia and a slew of other psychiatric illnesses.

@@allinone-qz2gi Maybe he deserves some blame, but keep in mind, the DP kept interrupting him and the others during the shot. The DP guy, as Bale said, was being unprofessional. I think Bale's anger kind of justified it. After all, if someone interrupted me at my work, I'd be upset. Granted, maybe not as mad as Bale, but I would be.

The problem is that many people are confusing "famous" and "rich" with "important" or "relevant" they're not, they're supposed to be the court jester of our society, nothing more.
That's the crazy thing. Entertainers being super well paid and pampered is definitely a new thing relative to human history. For literal millenia, entertainers were often one of the lowest class of society.
In Bale's defense, I had heard that guy walked into the shot several times. Making them have to redo it. Take all of these with a grain of salt.
Apparently that guy in infamous for not being able to sit still during shots.
I heard an interview with Ron Howard after it. Someone asked him about what happened and he mentioned that what the crew member did was a huge no-no. While Howard didn't excuse the reaction, if the nicest guy in Hollywood is pointing that out...
all of the negativity bores me and I agree.
I have a family member who works in Hollywood and have been on many huge projects, and he has nothing but good things to say about Bale. That one time went a bit far though.
If you are trying to do serious acting in a bad terminator film and the DP keeps messing around in the background, again and again I think losing it is understandable.
I saw Chevy Chase film a commercial for a restaurant a couple of years ago. He was extremely nice and had a pleasant attitude throughout the shoot despite a lack of clear direction that would have been frustrating for any veteran actor. I was surprised after hearing the rumors about him being hard to work with.
He's not the most humorous guy in business but if he treats his fans with respect, that's good enough: the people spreading these rumors and Chevy himself are all part of HoIIywood, I take these rumors with a grain of salt.
He may have mellowed out in his older years, but the horror stories about his behavior go all the way back to his SNL days. So I tend to give credence to the stories he was a nightmare to work with.

@@BethHarmon-yh8ms I tend to agree with you. This actually is the first story I heard about Chase where he wasn't anything but an arrogant pr*ck. Back in the late 90's I think it was, Tom Shales from WaPo wrote a book on the history of SNL. The two cast members that were universally despised; Chevy Chase and Jeananne Garafolo.
Steven Seagal had physically hurt his coworkers on sets. Seriously, type his name on the search bar and you will see stories about how horrible this person is compare to other celebrities. I am talking about stunt men who had injuries due his negligence. Also the sexual harassment that he subjected to unsuspecting women. I am surprise that he did made the top five on this list.
Imagine if all these actors were in the same movie. What a nightmare that set would be.

Chevy Chase is why Home Alone turned out extra great. He was causing chaos on the set of Christmas Vacation. Chris Columbus left the production to direct Home Alone, instead. Columbus is responsible for some rewrites that made the movie, like Old Man Marly. Has Chevy not been an asshole to him, who knows what hole alone would be like.
I missed college classes during his feud with Howard Stern amazingly funny radio.

@@redacted2275to be fair it wasn't his fault, the prop department put live ammo in the gun even though blanks and live ammo aren't even allowed on set together to prevent that kind of mix up, and one of them even tampered with evidence. I'm not a Baldwin fan but he's an actor, they hand him the prop and tell him to shoot, it's not the actors job to double check to make sure they're blanks or dummy rounds. If you plug your new vacuum in and the C4 in it explodes is it your fault for not checking for C4 or the guys who made the vacuum?
But he's a family man that loves his family, that's why he couldn't go to prison. 😂

Yeah I think a lot of people forget that Lindsay had a rough childhood and a strained relationship with her father, that and she suffered with bulimia and drug addiction. I've read that she's a lot better to work with now and is also sober, which is fantastic

Put them all on a island reality show or Naked and Afraid elimination season concept. Battle Royal style. 🤣
One of the crew filming Cinderella Man in Toronto, told me that Crowe was a "prima donna". He mentioned that Crowe wasn't getting his own way during the shoot. To take it out on the director and crew, Crowe spent an entire day of acting using his New Zealand accent, instead of the character's New York accent. A day's worth of the shoot was scrapped.
I loved Cinderella Man and he was terrific in it. About a week before the movie was released, Crowe was involved in something that brought bad publicity to him. (I forget exactly what it was) In any event, it really negatively impacted ticket sales. Supposedly, a number of the exhibitors actually allowed people to enter for free and only pay when they exited and if they liked the film.
No Klaus Kinski on the first place? AKA the man who was such a pain in the ass that people on the set genuinely proposed the director to have him killed?
Shannen Doherty is supposedly pretty difficult. She was fired from two shows, and even if you take her and Holly Marie Combs' at face value that Alyssa Milano is the only reason she got fired, that goes against what others have said in the past, including Luke Perry, who wrote in his bio that he knew Shannen was being difficult on Charmed and was going to go to the producers to say, "it's her or me" regarding herself and Alyssa. There are other instances of people complaining about her behavior outside of those two shows as well
Anne Hathaway didn’t do Knocked Out because she thought it was sexist as well. She was asked to do it first

I forget that Christian Bale is a method actor and now I’m just imagining what he was like in American Psycho. That cast and crew must have been so unsettled by him with the character he was playing. Don’t get me wrong a little bit of method acting can be a good skill to have as an actor and definitely takes time and is impressive to do, but you can’t go so far as to let the character take over your entire life because I can imagine that that could be dangerous. Especially, if it’s a bad/villain or psychotic or toxic character.
Apart from the blowup on the set of Terminator Salvation, no one has really complained about Bale. He probably doesn't even belong on this list, much less in the top 10.

@@TheListenerCanon Right. Not to excuse his behavior but my understanding is that the cinematographer he yelled at had been repeating his disruptive behavior for some time. And he and Bale went on to finish the film without further incident. Nor can I think of any other incidents in Bale's career that would land him on this list.
If we're all to be judged by the worst moments in our lives, none of us will pass muster.

I remember I had a supervisor told me when he was just a kid there was a movie that Steven Segal was being filmed near his neighborhood and he was a fan. He and his little brother spotted him walking taking a smoke break and they went up to him to ask for an autograph and he responded “Beat it you f@$%#ing brats”. Since that day he told me he refuses to watch anything he is in.

Yeah, Chevy Chase is a #1 A-hole to work with, on screen or off. He may be a goof ball, but he's so egotistical and manipulative.
I always take these stories with a grain of salt but, I had neighbors that rode first class on a plane, sitting next to him. They said they left him alone. They added he lived down to his reputation and treated the flight attendants worse than dirt.
That's such a pity. Sometimes, people may have great talent but their behavior can create unpleasant situations for everyone around them.

Happy to find Klaus Kinski has not been forgotten, as I understand that he is lesser know to an American millenial audience. However, if you do more research on him, you will see that there would be no one else to take top spot #1 on this list. Actually, you should put him on #1, leave the following 20 places empty with maybe the only exception of Marlon Brando, and then continue with the rest of the list. This would give you an idea of Kinski's craziness. Werner Herzog, the director who somehow survived doing five films with Kinski, even made a highly entertaining documentary about his love-hate relationship ("Kinski, my best fiend", 1999). Just an example: While filming Fitzcarraldo in the South American jungle, a local worker got bitten by a snake and only survived because he started his chain saw and cut off his own leg (!). When everybody tried to take care of this poor lad, Kinski felt that somehow he wasn't the center of attention any more and went on a shouting spree because alledgedly his coffee was too cold. At least that is how Herzog reports the story ...

A special mention goes to George Peppard. He originally played Blake Carrington in Dynasty. He got fired by the producers because he wasn't satisfied with the script. He got Melinda Culea who played Triple A fired from the A Team. He refused to communicate with Mr T due to jealousy.
Patricia Neal couldn't stand him while filming Breakfast at Tiffany's. If you haven't see the move, Neal plays a middle aged woman who is paying for the company of a younger man, Peppard. Peppard had a lot of problems playing a character subservient to a woman and didn't feel that someone as good looking as him would have to take handouts from an older woman. It's called ACTING!!!
It really seems like being “method” is just a lame excuse to get away with being awful. The Jared Leto gifts thing was absolutely ridiculous and he should have been laughed out of the business for it.

Look for the Bette Davis interview with Johnny Carson when she completely calls out Faye Dunaway and her bad behavior on set behavior. That pretty much sums it up. I have chatted with several hair and make up people who all have refused to work with her because "she is a nightmare" and takes 3-4 hours to be ready before filming!!
I remember Betty Davis in the much later part of her life, on an interview with Johnny Carson. Of Joan Crawford, Betty Davis told Carson this very classic line, "My mother always told me to speak good of the dead. Joan Crawford is dead, GOOD".

This list is not enough to cover all the actors who have attitude problems. James Franco is one of them, to say the least.
Most method actors are difficult to work with, but compensate for that by delivering absolutely stellar performances. The problem with Jared Leto is that he's not a good actor, which means that all the shit he puts production crews and other actors through is ultimately for nothing.
So Hoffman thinks slapping someone you're divorcing is ok? It's never ok to do that, under any circumstance
He supposedly did it to "help her get into the mood" for the next scene. He probably told her, "You'll thank me later." He honestly thought he was reponsible for her success.

Hmm, you forgot to mention that Chevy made amends with Howard Stern, Bill Murray and Bill Mahr (all of whom all had their own issues) you should do your research, Harmon was an admitted bully to him on the set of Community and he acted out, he stayed friends with Burt Reynolds, Dudley Moore, Charles Grodin and Richard Pryor until their deaths when other Hollywood types stopped bothering and is still friends with costars Beverly D'Angelo, Goldie Hawn (he is Kate Hudson's Godfather), Richard Dreyfuss, Geena Davis, Steve Martin and Martin Short. He is an easy target because he is a little prickly off set, but to say he has no friends is in the industry is Bull!
He's a huge admirer of Norm Macdonald as well and they were friends also. RIP Norm.

I’m surprised you didn’t include Tommy Lee Jones, Debra Winger, and Eric Stoltz. Stoltz was actually fired from “Back to the Future” because he was being such a difficult method actor.
Tommy Lee Jones I think is a lot like the character he played in The Fugitive. I saw an interview with William Friedkin (who pretty much hated all actors) and he couldn't say enough good things about him as an actor. He said he really delved into a character and brought sensible ideas to the set that would enhance the film.
When Bruce Willis was cast on Moonlighting, it was his first big gig. Sheppard was an established star. I bet he was payed more than her from the get go!
