I had two old Simmons that had been in the ground for over 30 years. Neither were repairable and I used your method with the 5 gallon bucket on the install. Also, I used a couple of Aipor union ball valve (Amazon) about 1 1/2 ‘ out from the base for turn offs. Thank you for this learning video… Greeting from Oklahoma

Interesting to see how deep frost lines are in other areas of the country. Here in Iowa it's at least 4-5 feet. I know from experience having to replace a hydrant in March 2019. Muddy mess. I'm 6'3" and the trench was over my head as I changed hydrants.

Curious - does filling the bucket with rock that high reduce the insulating factor that the ground/dirt provides? Just wondering.

It probably does reduce the insulation a little but there’s over 2’ of dirt on top and the dirt all around it is plenty good enough for our winters. We got down to 0° a couple of nights and below 15° quite a few nights and never had any problems.

Why use a plastic fitting on water hook up?all looks good except that.Plastic to brass not good.

Plastic does not corrode. Corrosion creates problems when trying to unscrew fittings.

Ever built is the brand name. They are not the best but good for the price.

They are still working flawlessly after almost a year. I like them.
