Hi Gerard, Yes, very interesting & enjoyable. Do you know what the name of his Brewery in Liverpool was? The 'Discoveries' interested me - the 6th star of the Trapezium (M42) Orion in 1842. The internet seems to have this down as John Herschel's discovey?? It will be very interesting if the proposed NASA Discovery Program ‘Trident’ mission, to revisit Triton goes ahead next year also! Many thanks!
Hello Rob, In 1840 Mr. Lassell erected an observatory at his residence near Liverpool, happily named Starfield, in which the 9-inch Newtonian was mounted. With it he diligently observed, among other things detecting, without knowledge of its existence, the sixth star in the trapezium of Orion. I may have to correct the powerpoint, as 6th Star had been seen before. He had several partners while he was a brewer in Liverpool, but most of his years as a brewer in Liverpool he traded on his own. However when the brewery moved to North Wales, his son, also William took over the running of the business, and was trading as Lassell & Sharman. The Sharman family were connected to the Lassell's by Marriage. I do hope the proposed spacecraft to orbit the Neptune & Triton system is a reality very soon. I hope there is a reference to Lassell on board.
@@gerardgilligan5887 Hi Gerard, Thanks for the info. I live in West Derby (Not too far from where his second home was - Bradstones). Im back home at mo, but work in a hotel in Panama & show guests the Orion Nebula through our telescope regularly. Thats why I wanted to get my facts straight, so I can mention it - forge the Liverpool connection! I wondered if there was an easy way to get your NW Astronomy booklet on WL that you wrote? Its unavailable on Amazon. All eyes on Mars at mo, just watched the 2020 launch. Many thanks Rob
@@robjameson7965 Hello Rob, I will try and find a pdf of my WL booklet to send to you. However plans are to update it for the 175th anniversary of Triton's discovery next year.
An excellent lecture, well worth watching again. Thank you Gerard.
Thank you Dave, glad you liked the webinar. The result of 30 years of research, which continues to this day.

@@gerardgilligan5887 Hi Gerard, that would be great - I appreaciate it! Many thanks!
Hi Gerard, just wondered if you'd had chance to look for that PDF yet?
Many thanks
Interesting! NASA via acid rock brought me here…. And the moon Triton of course!
